A few years ago I was dumb enough to take out a loan through HFC. I fell behind on the payments and at one point I was completely unable to pay due to a job loss. I contacted HFC to settle the account and HFC never replied.instead, NCB Management Services Incorporated sent me a letter saying that they were the collections agency that HFC had sent my account to, and that they had received my settlement proposal. Then I began getting harassed by NCB with the ususal "you are a scubag" talk and threats similar to other alerts on this site.
I owed HFC $7500 and I offered to settle for $3500, which is all that I had at the time. NCB refused the offer, and continued to harass me. Finally, after a year plus of this, I was able to raise some more money from selling off personal things and a bit I was able to save from my earnings. I once again offered to settle the account, this time for $5000. NCB Agreed to the settlement amount, but wanted to withdraw the money from my account. I was a real idiot for taking out this loan with this usurer to begin with, but I was not about to open up my account to them.
They insulted me again, and at that point I sent them a letter with the settlement offer and with the request that they stop calling me due to their way of insulting and attacking me personally. I received a letter back from NCB in July of 04 saying that they accepted the settlement amount, but I had to make 2 payments with certified funds on two specific dates in August. I sent both payments with Cashier's checks through certified mail.
The last payment I also included a letter asking for NCB to send me a 0 balance letter. Two weeks later, I received a statement from HFC showing both payment, but with a balance remaining, and a letter from NCB saying that they never had an agreement with me. I called and spoke to Cathy Moore at NCB who did not recall agreeing to the terms, and when I sent her a copy of her signed letter agreeing to the $5K settlement, she stopped taking my calls. Now, no one at NCB will take my calls or return any messages.
I contacted HFC several times, but I am told to call NCB to get a 0 balance letter.
To top things off, when I looked at my credit report in November, HFC had added a second account to my report with different numbers as my actual account saying that the account was about to go into judgement. I disputed the information on my credit report and HFC had to remove it, but they refuse to close out the original account, even though I reached a settlement agreement with their collections agency.
I have sent letters to both HFC and NCB one last time in an effort to get this nightmare behind me, but I will begin contacting lawyers because I do not think that they will do anything else.
Folks, no matter how desperate your financial situation is right now, DO NOT BORROW ANYTHING from these people.
