I bought a samoyed from Hawkwind a little over a year ago and I was really sad when she arrived. First off, she was terrified of everything and all people. She would hide in her crate and underneath things. Our poor baby girl would pee every time we would get a little loud with each other. If we moved too quickly towards her she would tuck her tail and pee too. Hawkwind touts that temperament and health are on the top of the list in their breeding program. They also state that they spend sufficient time socializing making sure to send out stable puppies. Well either our baby girl had terrible breeding or was unsocialized. This was the opinion from the trainer we talked to. We worked through it and love this girl very much. She is still very unsure of herself but she is coming out of her shell a little bit every day.
So now that we have the fearfulness issue addressed I need to tell you what happened when I took her to the vet for her shots when I got her. We walked into the vets office knowing that she was not a bright white puppy because although she was clean she still smelled funny (I cant even explain how she smelled when she arrived) and she seemed stained. But we figured she was still cared for properly even though her smell and weird staining color. Now her coat is very white so yes, she was stained. The vet (a breeder) put his hands on her and was immediately shocked at how thin she was and said that she was pretty small for her age. He also went on to tell us that her stool sample was positive for coccidia and she would need to be on antibiotics. We have struggled with issues with her stomach since she was a puppy, having issues with vomiting and diarrhea.
Obviously something is not right here. We were told that the puppy was a little shy. Not scared beyond belief. We were lead to believe by the website and by the breeder she was healthy and happy. I would not trust Hawkwind to buy another dog!
