Notice: this rip-off has nothing to do with the Yahoo search engine. Many rip-off businesses use the Yahoo name to fool consumers.
One day I found a charge of $1196 on my online credit card statement from Yahoo *Directory 866-562-7228 CA. I checked my Yahoo account and found no billing details or any other information there. I have no idea about any order number or anything else. I tried to call the number mentioned in the transaction, but there was an AVR system, and since I do not have any details, there was no way to find where to go. In one of the AVR messages I was instructed to contact my credit card bank for a dispute.
I disputed the transaction through my bank. My credit card bank recently sent me a bunch of papers that were provided in support of the transaction from Yahoo's banking service. All the documents are related to the transaction process and their codes. The documents have only credit card related information, which is required for payment processing only.
The documents do not provide any valid order number, order details, services exactly ordered, period of service ordered, or website address for which services were ordered. The bill that was sent looks totally like a fake bill. Further, no IP address was provided for the transaction.
Further, I sent an email to the Yahoo directory submission service along with my Yahoo ID. I received a response that they did not find any billing for my account.
Now my credit card company is stating that Yahoo has submitted these proofs and is closing the case, and I will not get a chargeback.
Today I have no idea how Yahoo billed this or what it was billed for, since I have not ordered anything and have no way to get clarification and clear this up. There is a big wall between me and Yahoo.
Whatever they did, it is right, and you have no way out. You do not even have the right to know what is billed and why it is billed. If this is a system error, then someone should be there to address the issue. Otherwise it looks like a fraud by internal people in Yahoo or the payment processing system, or Yahoo itself has this way to make money while it is losing market.
