If you are looking to enroll your children/teens in an AAU Basketball program with the intent of improving their skills, do not waste your money and time with BSA. This organization is all about the money, not about the kids. Players are put on teams with kids both younger and older and expected to compete against teams their age. There is only 1 practice per week, not enough time to learn any plays. Coaches come and go and sometimes there are coaching changes in mid-season.
And the "try-outs" are nothing of the sort. Everyone makes it, so your children/teens might be playing with others with little to no basketball experience. And therefore the teams are comprised of a mish-mash of whoever shows up. We have met parents outside of BSA who were involved with BSA in previous years and they offered this same opinion unsolicited. So this is not a 1-year phenomenon. The BSA teams we have seen (the non-"elite" ones at least) consistently get crushed at the tournaments, often by more than 30 points. Ask a lot of questions before you sign up knowing what you just read!
