Wagmo Reviews, Complaints & Contacts

Wagmo, Inc. of New York sells two different products for dogs and cats: Wagmo Wellness, a monthly or annual membership that reimburses routine care and that Wagmo says is not insurance, and Wagmo Insurance, accident and illness policies underwritten by other insurers. Several complaints on BBB turn on which of the two a customer bought: Wellness does not pay for sick visits, and cancelling it after the first 24 hours can leave money owed. These are Wagmo's own cancellation, refund and claim rules, the insurers it names, its contacts, where to escalate, and its BBB and Trustpilot figures. Operator. Wagmo, Inc. runs wagmo.io and issues its privacy policy; the policy gives a Privacy Department mailing address of 228 Park Ave S #15863, New York, NY 10003-1502, and a toll-free number, (855) 836-8785. BBB lists Wagmo, Inc. at 50 W 17th St, New York, NY 10011, with a business start date of February 20, 2018.

Founders and funding. A July 2021 announcement by Revolution Ventures says Wagmo was founded in 2017 by Christie Horvath, its CEO, and Ali Foxworth, and that it raised a $12.5 million Series A round led by Revolution Ventures.

Who does what on the insurance side. According to Wagmo's site footer:

  • Underwriters: Independence American Insurance Company (NAIC 26581, Newcastle, DE) or United States Fire Insurance Company (NAIC 21113, Morristown, NJ).
  • Marketing agency: Wagmo Insurance Agency, LLC (NPN 19405740, New York, NY; California license 6001900).
  • Administrator: PTZ Insurance Agency Ltd. (NPN 5328528, Scottsdale, AZ), which does business in California as PIA Insurance Agency Ltd. (license 0E36937).

Wagmo's insurance terms add that the Independence American and U.S. Fire policies are produced by PTZ Insurance Agency, which is authorized to charge the policyholder's card or bank account, including at automatic renewal. Older policies underwritten by National Specialty Insurance Company were sold by Wagmo Insurance Agency, and for those the issued policy governs. Wagmo Wellness is not insurance; Wagmo itself is responsible for it.

Complaint record: this site and BBB

No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.

BBB. BBB rates Wagmo, Inc. B+; the company is not BBB Accredited. Its profile shows 13 complaints in the last 3 years, 5 of them in the last 12 months, and 5 customer reviews. By type: service or repair 5, order 3, billing 2, product 2, sales and advertising 1. Wagmo answered 12 and 1 is marked resolved. BBB displays 6 of the 13 complaints, and three of those six concern what a Wellness plan or an insurance policy does and does not cover. Examples, with Wagmo's replies:

  • August 2026: a customer said Wagmo's website led them to believe they had bought pet insurance and complained that a claim was denied. Wagmo replied that the member held a Wellness plan enrolled through an employer's benefits offering, not an insurance policy, so the illness-related claim was not covered and the plan could not be converted into insurance.
  • April 2026: a customer complained that bloodwork at a checkup was rejected and cancelled the plan. Wagmo replied that Wellness reimburses routine preventive care, not visits tied to a specific health concern.
  • April 2024: a customer complained that an insurance claim for surgery was denied as preventive. Wagmo replied that the policy covers active accidents and illnesses, that preventive care including spaying and neutering is excluded, and that the claim was for suture removal after an earlier surgery.
  • October 2025: a complainant said charges on an insurance policy continued for more than a year after the card on file expired, and that they were not the customer named on the policy. Wagmo replied that the complainant was not the named insured, that it cannot alter or refund a policy without a request from the named insured, and that billing used authorized payment information; it said the named insured cancelled in May 2025 and received a prorated refund, and that no further refund was warranted.
  • January 2024: a customer complained that her insurance policy was set not to renew because of claims activity. Wagmo replied that the policy had 67 claims in two years, 63 of them paid, including repeated conditions; it then said it had re-reviewed the matter, reversed the non-renewal and sent a renewal quote.
  • December 2023, marked resolved: a customer asked to pause a Wellness plan because of financial hardship and was billed a cancellation fee. Wagmo replied that the plan is a 12-month commitment shown at checkout and in the agreement, then waived the fee and closed the account.

These are complaints and company replies as BBB shows them, not findings.

Trustpilot. Trustpilot shows a TrustScore of 2.2 out of 5 from 16 reviews for wagmo.io. The profile is claimed, Trustpilot notes that the company has not invited customers to review it recently, so reviews may not be representative, and it says Wagmo has not replied to negative reviews. BBB and Trustpilot are separate sources and their figures are not added together.

Cancel, claim or ask Wagmo for help: what its documents say

First, find out which product you have. Wagmo's Terms page says: "Wagmo Wellness is not an insurance policy. It is offered separately and distinctly from insurance." Wellness reimburses routine and preventive care only; Wagmo Insurance is an accident and illness policy issued by an insurer.

More detailShow less

Your enrollment emails and your Wagmo account show which one you hold, and an insurance policy comes with a declarations page naming the insurer. The Wellness Membership Agreement says that a vet visit prompted by symptoms your pet is showing "will not be reimbursed under Your Wellness plan."

Wellness through your employer. A plan through your employer can be cancelled only during annual open enrollment, on termination of employment, on a change in benefits eligibility, or when the pet dies or is rehomed; proof may be required. Outside those windows the agreement sends you to your HR department or benefits team.

Cancel a Wellness plan you bought yourself. Section 13 of the Universal Membership Agreement says you must submit a cancellation request with Wagmo customer support; the Terms page says to send it in writing to [email protected]. Keep a copy of the email. What you owe depends on timing:

  • Within 24 hours of enrolling (section 13.A): if you are newly enrolled and have not been in a plan in the preceding 90 days, the membership fee and other fees are refundable, although claims already filed and processed affect any cancellation fee.
  • After 24 hours, paying monthly (section 13.B): Wagmo "shall be entitled to retain the entire membership fee" and every installment already paid or due, including the month you cancel in. If reimbursements already paid to you exceed the installments collected, you must either pay the full retail cost of the reimbursed items with discounts reversed, pay the remaining installments for the plan year if that is less, or keep paying monthly until the plan year ends.
  • After 24 hours, paid annually (section 13.C): Wagmo refunds the lesser of one-twelfth of the annual fee for each full month left in the plan year, or the annual fee minus the undiscounted value of items already reimbursed. Section 13.F says annual plans with reimbursed claims carry no cancellation fee.

Any refund Wagmo owes is to be paid within 6 to 8 weeks. File any claims for care already received before you cancel. Plans renew automatically on the anniversary date (section 8), and Wagmo must give at least 30 days' notice of a price change at renewal (section 13.E).

File a Wellness claim. Upload a photo of the receipt in the Wagmo app or on the website; Wagmo says it processes reimbursements within 24 hours and pays by direct deposit, PayPal or Venmo. Section 5 of the agreement asks for the full itemized invoice showing the provider's name, phone and address, your pet's name, each item billed, the total and proof of payment, and requires the claim no later than 30 days after the membership period expires or renews.

Handwritten receipts are subject to review, and the Terms page says Wagmo does not accept handwritten receipts or items from unlicensed vendors. Claims on a plan with an unpaid balance can be rejected (section 13.G).

Cancel an insurance policy or stop it renewing. Coverage, exclusions, waiting periods and refund terms are set by the policy issued to you, not by Wagmo's marketing pages. Wagmo's insurance terms say the newer policies are billed by PTZ Insurance Agency, which is authorized to charge your card or bank account at each renewal unless you tell Wagmo otherwise. In a BBB reply Wagmo said it cannot change, cancel or refund a policy without a request from the named insured, so the policyholder should send the request, in writing to [email protected], and keep a copy. In that case Wagmo said it refunded the unused premium pro rata after the policyholder cancelled. Check your policy and declarations page for the refund and any free-look period that applies in your state.

Contacts. Email [email protected]. The Contact Us page also offers a 24/7 chatbot named Scout and live chat with staff Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 11am to 7pm Eastern, plus a help center at help.wagmo.io. The Contact Us page lists no phone number; the privacy policy gives a toll-free number, (855) 836-8785, for privacy requests.

If Wagmo does not resolve it. If a credit card charge is a billing error, such as a charge you did not authorize or one for the wrong amount, send the card issuer a written billing-error notice within 60 days of the first statement showing it, under the Fair Credit Billing Act.

For a debit card or bank draft, contact your bank right away; the time limits for reporting unauthorized electronic transfers are short. For an insurance claim or premium dispute, file a complaint with your state insurance department; in New York that is the Department of Financial Services at dfs.ny.gov. For a Wellness membership, which is not insurance, complain to your state attorney general's consumer protection office (in New York, ag.ny.gov) and to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. You can also file with the BBB, where Wagmo answers complaints.

What Wagmo offers and who stands behind each product

Wagmo Wellness. A membership for dogs and cats that pays you back for routine care, each item with a yearly count or dollar cap. The Wellness plans page lists three plans at $25, $45 and $65 a month. All three cover an office visit, vaccines, routine bloodwork and a fecal test, plus unlimited VETalk telehealth chats and video sessions; the $45 and $65 plans add urinalysis, flea, tick and heartworm medication and grooming allowances, and the $65 plan adds teeth cleaning. Wagmo says there are no waiting periods or deductibles and that every dog and cat is eligible regardless of pre-existing conditions, but Wellness does not pay for treating or diagnosing those conditions. Employer-sponsored plans can differ in coverage and price. According to the Terms page, Wagmo itself runs the Wellness product and pays its claims.

Wagmo Insurance. Accident and illness policies with a choice of deductible, reimbursement rate and annual limit, usable at any licensed vet in the U.S. The insurance page lists cancer treatment, hereditary and congenital conditions, surgeries, hospital stays and prescription medication among covered items, and says the waiting period is 14 days in most states. Wagmo's FAQ says neither Wagmo Insurance nor Wagmo Wellness pays for spaying or neutering, although Wagmo's California disclosure describes an optional preventive care endorsement on Independence American policies whose benefit schedule includes a dental cleaning or spay/neuter allowance; it is not sold to people who already hold a separate wellness product. Wagmo does not carry the insurance risk itself: "Wagmo Insurance" is a brand name, and the policies are issued by the insurance companies listed under Company information on this page. Your policy document names your insurer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Wagmo Wellness the same as pet insurance?

Wagmo's Terms page says: "Wagmo Wellness is not an insurance policy. It is offered separately and distinctly from insurance, and customers may purchase either product on a standalone basis." Wellness reimburses routine and preventive care, such as exams, vaccines and routine tests, up to fixed yearly limits. Wagmo Insurance covers accidents and illness under a policy issued by an insurance company. A Wellness plan will not pay for a visit because your pet is sick or injured.

How do I cancel a Wagmo Wellness plan?

If you bought the plan yourself, send a written cancellation request to [email protected], as the Terms page instructs, keep a copy, and file claims for care already received first. A new member who cancels within 24 hours of enrolling gets the fees back; after that, under section 13 of the membership agreement, monthly payers get no refund of installments paid or due and owe more only if reimbursements already paid exceed what they have paid, while annual prepayers get a partial refund. If the plan comes through your employer, cancellation is limited to open enrollment and certain life events, and the agreement sends you to your HR or benefits team. The cancellation section gives the full rules.

Can I get a refund when I cancel Wellness after 24 hours?

Only if you prepaid the year. Under section 13.C of the membership agreement, Wagmo refunds the lesser of one-twelfth of the annual fee for each full month left in the plan year, or the annual fee minus the undiscounted value of items already reimbursed, within 6 to 8 weeks. Monthly payers get no refund of installments paid or due; the cancellation section explains what they may still owe.

Is a Wellness plan a 12-month commitment?

The membership agreement runs on a 12-month plan year that renews automatically. The Terms page says either side may cancel at any time, but "cancellation mid-term may result in a fee." If you pay monthly and cancel after the first 24 hours, Wagmo keeps the installments paid or due, including the month you cancel in, and can collect more only if your reimbursements exceeded your payments. In a BBB reply to a December 2023 complaint, Wagmo described Wellness plans as a 12-month commitment shown at checkout and in the agreement.

How do Wagmo Wellness claims work and how fast are they paid?

Upload a photo of the receipt in the Wagmo app or on the website. Wagmo says it processes reimbursements within 24 hours and pays by direct deposit, PayPal or Venmo. Section 5 of the membership agreement asks for the full itemized invoice with the provider's details, your pet's name and proof of payment, and says claims must be submitted no later than 30 days after the membership period expires or renews. Only routine and preventive items listed in your plan are reimbursed, up to each item's yearly limit.

Why might a Wellness claim be rejected?

Wellness pays only for routine care: the membership agreement says a visit prompted by symptoms your pet is showing "will not be reimbursed under Your Wellness plan," and that is the issue in two of the complaints BBB displays. The agreement also requires a full itemized invoice and claims within 30 days after the membership period expires or renews, says claims on a plan with an unpaid balance can be rejected, and the Terms page says Wagmo does not accept handwritten receipts or items from unlicensed vendors. Each item has a yearly limit. Wagmo's FAQ says spaying and neutering are not covered under Wellness, although the bloodwork allowance on every plan lists a pre-spay or neuter blood panel.

Who underwrites Wagmo Insurance?

Independence American Insurance Company or United States Fire Insurance Company, according to Wagmo's site footer, which adds that "Wagmo Insurance" is a brand name that does not underwrite insurance or pay claims. Older policies were underwritten by National Specialty Insurance Company. Your policy document names your insurer; the agency and administrator are listed under Company information.

How do I contact Wagmo?

Email [email protected]. Wagmo's Contact Us page also offers a 24/7 chatbot and live chat with staff Monday to Friday 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday 11am to 7pm Eastern, plus a help center at help.wagmo.io. The Contact Us page lists no phone number. Privacy requests go to [email protected], to the toll-free number in the privacy policy, (855) 836-8785, or to Wagmo, Inc., Privacy Department, 228 Park Ave S #15863, New York, NY 10003-1502.

What waiting period applies to Wagmo Insurance?

Wagmo's insurance page says the waiting period is 14 days in most states. Wagmo's California disclosure describes a 14-day illness waiting period for Independence American accident and illness policies, which can be shortened if your pet passes a vet exam documented on Wagmo's Waiting Period Health Assessment form, sent within 30 days of the exam. Older National Specialty Insurance Company policies carry a 15-day waiting period for injury and illness. Anything that shows signs during the waiting period counts as pre-existing and is excluded. The waiting periods on your policy's declarations page are the ones that apply. Wellness plans have no waiting period.
