Uown Leasing: how a lease works, how to pay, cancel or buy out early, and where to complain (checked October 14, 2026)

Uown Leasing is a lease-to-own program: you choose an item at a participating retailer, and Uown (Mollie LLC dba Uown Leasing) leases it to you under a lease agreement. The company's FAQ describes it as a payment arrangement where a consumer commits to a short-term lease of durable goods and 'may choose between several available paths to gain ownership'. The lease contract you sign is the controlling document; the points below are the company's own website statements.

What the company's FAQ says.

  • Approval: the company says it does not use a FICO score or credit inquiries and instead uses job, income and other factors; it verifies information through databases it names as TransUnion, Clarity, DataX and LexisNexis. An open checking account at least 90 days old, in good standing, is listed as a requirement.
  • Up-front cost: 'no down payment, initial payment, or first lease payment' at signing, and 'a processing fee of up to $40' that may be charged at signing or on the first lease payment depending on the merchant.
  • Term: the initial term may be one week, two weeks, 15 days or monthly with an option to renew; 'a typical lease agreement will have a 13 month period to ownership'. The FAQ adds that you 'always have an early buyout option or a return option', and says 'We offer 90-day programs and early buyout discounts'. Ask for the payoff amount for your own agreement in writing.
  • Price: the FAQ says a lease rate factor 'is not an interest rate' and is determined by state lease-purchase regulations. Read the total of payments in your own lease before signing.
  • Payments: weekly or bi-weekly; an online portal is available 24/7 'for extra payments only' and 'does not take the place of your regularly scheduled payments'.

Contacting the company. Customer inquiries (877) 353-8696; payment inquiries (877) 357-5474; email [email protected] (listed on the Contact page for both customer and payment inquiries), [email protected] or [email protected]. The site footer lists customer service hours Mon-Fri 8am-11pm EST, Sat 9am-11pm EST, Sun 10am-11pm EST; the Electronic Disclosure Agreement (last updated April 3, 2025) gives different hours, so confirm by phone. Mail: Uown Leasing, 10500 University Center Drive, Suite 150, Tampa, FL 33612 (the Terms of Service print 'Suite 140' for the same street).

Calls and texts. The Terms say you may revoke consent to automated calls and texts in writing to Mollie LLC at the Tampa address or by email to [email protected], and that you can text STOP to 759346 to stop transactional text messages.

Credit reporting. The Terms say Uown 'does not obtain traditional credit reports or scores from Experian, TransUnion or Equifax', and also that it 'may report information about your performance under any rent-to-own agreement to traditional and non-traditional credit reporting agencies. Late payments, missed payments and defaults may be reported.' The Privacy Policy adds that Uown may provide monthly reports to consumer credit agencies about account status and balance.

Paper copies of electronic records. The Electronic Disclosures page says the company will mail paper copies of electronic records 'at no cost' on request; requests go to [email protected] or by mail. The mailing address printed there reads 'Suite 1505', which differs from Suite 150 on the Privacy Policy and BBB; confirm the address with the company before mailing.

Accounts moved to another servicer. In recent responses on its BBB profile the company wrote that an account is 'no longer serviced by Uown' and directed the consumer to the current servicer. If you receive collection contact about a lease, ask in writing for the identity of the current servicer or assignee and for written validation of the debt.

FTC guidance on rent-to-own. The FTC's consumer page on rent-to-own and lease-to-own plans says that if you miss a payment 'you might lose both the item and all the money you paid toward it' and that with some plans 'you might pay twice as much as you would if you paid with cash'.

Privacy requests. California residents can use the form at uownleasing.com/privacy-requests/ or call 1-877-201-1125 (Privacy Policy, last updated August 26, 2025).

If you have a dispute. Start with the company in writing and keep your lease, payment confirmations and any screenshots of failed payments. You can also file a complaint with the BBB (the company's BBB profile is described below), with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint (the CFPB decides which products it accepts), or with your state attorney general. A complaint filed with any agency is an allegation, not a finding.

Who operates Uown Leasing and what the record shows about ownership

The Terms of Service say the agreement is 'between you and Mollie LLC dba Uown Leasing and its affiliates', and the Privacy Policy describes 'Mollie LLC dba Uown Leasing' as 'a rent-to-own company located in Tampa, Florida'. The company's own FAQ says it has been in business since at least 2008 ('A lot has changed since 2008'). BBB lists the entity as a limited liability company, business started and incorporated October 19, 2009, with CEO Daniel Klein. BBB's data also shows a 'date of new ownership' of April 1, 2019.

Ownership reports. HFN (Home Furnishings News) reported on March 2, 2020 that Uown had been 'purchased by 777 Partners, an investment firm based' in Miami, and would 'combine' with Mollie Financial, 777 Partners' existing lease-to-own provider, and 'operate solely under the Uown name'. In a February 10, 2025 letter filed as an exhibit in Leadenhall Capital Partners LLP v. Wander (S.D.N.Y., No. 1:24-cv-03453), counsel for the guarantor defendants wrote that 'Mollie LLC ... has never been an asset of either Guarantor' and referred to a sale process for Uown run through a broker. This page does not resolve who owns Mollie LLC today; the company's own pages do not name an owner.

Recent company news. A company release dated January 7, 2026 says Uown Leasing 'has acquired the assets of Kornerstone Living, LLC', that the combined organization is based in Tampa and led by CEO Daniel Klein, that Kornerstone's 16-month lease-to-own, buyout-anytime option will be integrated into Uown's platform, and that 'Mollie LLC's senior lender has amended and increased its senior credit facility from $50 million to $70 million'.

Not the same as other 'UOWN' sites. The site at uown.co describes itself as a UK property developer and investment platform; it is a different business from the Tampa lease-to-own company at uownleasing.com.

Uown Leasing complaint and review counts (as displayed October 14, 2026)

Public review sites show different numbers because each measures something different; they are listed side by side and are not added together.

  • BBB (UOwn Leasing, Tampa, FL): BBB Accredited, rated A+. As displayed on October 14, 2026: 178 total complaints in the last 3 years and 36 filed in the last 12 months; customer reviews average 3.29 out of 5 across 112 reviews. BBB shows its complaint categories as billing, delivery, product and service or repair issues. BBB states that customer reviews are not used in the letter-grade calculation. BBB's raw data lists accreditation since June 3, 2019.
  • Trustpilot (uownleasing.com): 2,270 reviews and a 4.6 score as displayed on October 14, 2026. The profile is labelled claimed with a paid Trustpilot subscription (September 2023). Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews. The BBB review count and the Trustpilot review count come from different platforms and different review-collection practices and cannot be compared directly.
  • CFPB complaint database: a company-name lookup for 'Uown', 'Uown Leasing' and 'Mollie' returned no matching company on October 14, 2026. This is a scoped result of that lookup tool only and does not show whether complaints were filed under another name.
  • This site's archive: no approved complaint posts naming Uown Leasing or Mollie LLC as the subject were found on October 14, 2026, so this page has no complaint-theme counts of its own.

Recent BBB reviews quoted on the profile include both a customer who describes 'good terms and payment options' and customers describing payment-date and withdrawal disputes; individual reviews are the reviewers' own statements and BBB does not verify them.

Court records involving Mollie LLC (dba Uown Leasing)

Consumer case located. Locket v. Mollie LLC dba Uown Leasing, No. 8:22-cv-00768 (M.D. Fla.), a Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. 227) complaint filed March 31, 2022 with a jury demand. The Justia copy of the docket was retrieved on the filing date and shows only the complaint; its later history was not available to this review, so no outcome is stated.

Regulators. On October 14, 2026 the CFPB complaint-database company-name lookup returned no match for Uown or Mollie, and the Justia docket above is a private TCPA case. The FTC, CFPB enforcement and state attorney general pages could not be opened for this review, so this page makes no statement about whether any regulator action exists. Check the agencies' own sites for current actions.

Is Uown Leasing Legitimate?

Uown Leasing is operated by Mollie LLC, a Tampa, Florida limited liability company that identifies itself by name, street address, phone numbers and email addresses in its own Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, and appears under the same address and phone on its BBB profile (BBB Accredited, A+ as displayed October 14, 2026).

Those facts identify the operator by name and address; they do not measure how it treats any individual customer. BBB lists 178 complaints in three years and Trustpilot shows 2,270 reviews with a 4.6 score, and the two are separate platforms with separate methods. Lease-to-own contracts usually cost more in total than the item's cash price, so compare the total of payments in the lease with the retailer's price and the early-buyout terms before signing. Messages that claim to be Uown but come from other domains or ask for payment by gift card or wire should be checked against the phone numbers on uownleasing.com.
