Is Symple Lending Legitimate?

Legal name
Symple Lending, LLC
Business type
Online personal-loan brand (symplelending.com) with a contact address in Irvine, California; it calls itself a Utah licensed lender and also describes connecting applicants with third-party lenders
Website
symplelending.comSource: Symple Lending website, checked 2026-11-01

Symple Lending, LLC publishes its legal name, a street address in Irvine, California, a phone number, an email address and an NMLS number (#2508833), and states that it is licensed as a lender in Utah. BBB lists Symple Lending LLC at the same address as BBB Accredited with an A+ rating. You can confirm the license yourself by entering NMLS #2508833 at nmlsconsumeraccess.org.

Points to weigh: BBB shows 45 complaints in three years; one BBB complaint and the company's reply concern a "Freedom Program" offered to a consumer who had applied for a loan; and federal dockets name the company in phone-call (TCPA) and credit-reporting suits brought by consumers, two trademark cases and a business contract dispute. All seven have ended: the four consumer suits and the contract dispute by the plaintiff's voluntary dismissal, the Troutman trademark case by a joint stipulation of dismissal with prejudice, and the company's own trademark suit about five weeks after it was filed. None of the cases brought against the company ended in a judgment against it.

Before you apply, check: the name of the lender that actually makes the offer and its NMLS number, the APR, fees and total repayment in the written offer, and whether you are being asked to enroll in a debt-settlement program rather than take a loan. Those are different products with different risks.

Complaints and reviews about Symple Lending: BBB and Trustpilot

BBB and Trustpilot count complaints and reviews under different rules, so their figures are shown separately and not added together.

  • BBB (Symple Lending LLC, Irvine, CA): BBB Accredited, rating A+. BBB shows 45 complaints in the last 3 years, 15 of them in the last 12 months. BBB files complaints under its standard category labels, which are the same for every kind of business; for Symple Lending the most common are service or repair issues (12), billing issues (9), order issues (7) and product issues (7). BBB marks 39 of the 45 as answered by the company and 6 as resolved. Customer reviews on BBB average 4.13 out of 5 across 340 reviews. In one complaint from August 2026, a consumer who applied for a personal loan says they were encouraged to enroll in "Symple Lending's Freedom Program instead"; the company replied that a team member had reached out and that the client "elected to continue with the program". A 1-star BBB review from October 2026 says an ad offered personal loans from 6.99%, but the company turned out to be a debt-relief firm that negotiates with creditors. These are individual accounts and the company's reply, not findings.
  • Trustpilot (symplelending.com): TrustScore 4.9 from more than 11,000 reviews, about 5,800 of them in the last 12 months; 96 percent are 5-star and 2 percent 1-star. Trustpilot shows the profile as claimed by the company with a paid subscription, says the company invites its customers to review it, and says it has replied to 96 percent of negative reviews.
  • CFPB: you can file a complaint about a lender, loan broker or debt-relief company at consumerfinance.gov/complaint; the CFPB forwards it to the company and asks for a response.

Symple Lending: what to do about calls, texts, loan offers, debt-relief referrals and complaints

Symple Lending, LLC runs symplelending.com. Its footer says it is a Utah licensed lender (NMLS #2508833), but its Terms of Use (Section 17) say that clicking a button such as "Access Your Offer" means "you are submitting a request to be connected with one of our third-party advertisers or lenders".

More detailShow less

Before you accept any offer, find the name of the lender that is actually making it, the APR, any fees and the total you will repay.

Stop calls and texts. Under Section 10 of the Terms you can opt out of texts by replying STOP to any message; you then receive one final message confirming the opt-out.

More detailShow less

You can also opt out by email at [email protected], by phone at 866-315-2175, or by mail to 3351 Michelson Drive, Suite 400, Irvine, CA 92612. The same section says that giving your phone number counts as consent to calls and texts from Symple Lending, including autodialed and prerecorded ones, and that subscribers receive an average of 2 text messages per day. The Privacy Policy goes further: it treats submitting a name and phone number as written consent for Symple Lending "along with its agents, assigns and listed partners" to call and text you, including with prerecorded and artificial or AI voices, and says consent is not a condition of purchase. If a caller does not say who they are, ask for the company name and phone number, tell that caller to stop, and list those names in your written opt-out to [email protected]. You can also put your number on the National Do Not Call Registry at donotcall.gov and report unwanted calls there.

Contact the company. Section 19 of the Terms lists customer service at [email protected] and 866-315-2175, at the Irvine address on this page. BBB lists (855) 407-7458, and Trustpilot's company details list 888-796-7538 and [email protected].

More detailShow less

Put a complaint in writing by email, keep a copy, and include your name, the phone number or email you applied with, the date you applied and what you want done.

If you were offered a debt-relief program instead of a loan. In a BBB complaint from August 2026, a consumer who applied for a personal loan says they were encouraged to enroll in "Symple Lending's Freedom Program instead"; the company's reply says the client "elected to continue with the program, including adding additional accounts to their enrollment".

More detailShow less

Neither names the company that runs the program. The loan pages of symplelending.com describe loans and do not mention a debt-settlement program. A debt-settlement program is not a loan: you usually stop paying creditors while money builds up in an account, and the provider then negotiates. The CFPB warns against any company that charges fees before it settles your debts, notes that debt settlement companies often charge expensive fees, and says that late fees and interest keep growing on unpaid cards and creditors may sue. The FTC says a debt settlement company must tell you its fees, conditions and terms before you sign up and cannot collect fees before it settles a debt. Ask for the fees and the name of the provider in writing before you agree to anything.

Where to file a complaint. Start with the company in writing. If that does not resolve it, file with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, and your state attorney general. You can see which states license Symple Lending by entering NMLS ID 2508833 at nmlsconsumeraccess.org; the state regulator that issued a license also takes complaints. Texas residents can file online with the Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner at occc.texas.gov, and Utah residents can contact the Utah Department of Financial Institutions ([email protected], 801-538-8830), which takes written complaints about the institutions it regulates; California residents can use the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation at dfpi.ca.gov or 866-275-2677. BBB also accepts complaints. If you paid a fee by credit card for a service you did not receive, dispute it with your card issuer in writing within 60 days of the statement showing the charge, the window the Fair Credit Billing Act sets. If money was taken from your bank account by an electronic withdrawal you did not authorize, tell your bank in writing within 60 days of the statement that first shows it, and to stop future withdrawals, notify both the company and your bank in writing that you revoke the authorization.

Filing with a regulator is separate from going to court: for a lawsuit, Section 6 of the Terms of Use requires individual arbitration of disputes about the website and its services, with a small-claims exception (see the court section).

Court cases that name Symple Lending

Federal court dockets name Symple Lending in the seven cases on this page; all of them have ended. Each summary states what the public docket shows. A lawsuit is an allegation, not a finding.

Consumer cases in which Symple Lending is a defendant.

  • Betts v. Symple Lending LLC (S.D. Fla., 0:25-cv-60114): filed January 20, 2025 by Steven Betts under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. section 227), the federal law on autodialed and prerecorded calls and texts. • Eric J. Troutman and Troutman Amin, LLP v. Symple Lending LLC (C.D. Cal., 8:25-cv-01181): filed May 30, 2025. The plaintiffs, a lawyer and his law firm, allege that a Symple Lending logo is confusingly similar to their registered trademark (U.S. Registration No. 7233778). In June 2025 the court issued a temporary restraining order against use of the logo. The parties filed a joint stipulation of dismissal with prejudice on June 22, 2026, and on June 29, 2026 the court granted it and closed the case. The plaintiffs' claims cannot be brought again, and the court made no final ruling on whether the logo infringes the mark.
  • Symple Lending LLC v. Symple Path Lending et al. (C.D. Cal., 8:26-cv-02077): filed July 31, 2026 by Symple Lending LLC as plaintiff, alleging trademark infringement (15 U.S.C. section 1114). The case was terminated on September 8, 2026.

Business contract dispute. DMB Financial, LLC v. Symple Lending, LLC and Beyond Finance, LLC (D. Mass., 1:21-cv-12065) is a breach-of-contract case between businesses that Symple Lending removed to federal court on December 17, 2021. The plaintiff moved for a preliminary injunction the same day. On June 1, 2022 the court dismissed three of the counts (declaratory judgment, specific performance and Chapter 93A) and let the rest proceed; the case was stayed in November 2022 and ended with a notice of voluntary dismissal on January 13, 2023.

Disputes with consumers under the Terms of Use. Section 6 requires binding individual arbitration of disputes about the Terms, the site or the services, and Section 7 bars class actions and class arbitration. The arbitration clause does not apply to members of the armed forces and their dependents covered by the federal Military Lending Act when the dispute involves consumer credit. Either side may instead bring a qualifying claim in small claims court in Hillsborough County, Florida. Section 6 also says "the prevailing party shall be entitled to recover its costs and reasonable attorney's fees", which means a consumer who loses could be asked to pay the company's costs. Section 9 applies Florida law and names Florida courts. These Terms cover the Symple Lending website; a loan agreement you sign with a lender may have its own dispute terms.

Who runs Symple Lending, what it offers, and what its own documents say

Operator. The Terms of Use say "The Site is owned and operated by Symple Lending, LLC" and give its contact address as 3351 Michelson Dr Suite 400, Irvine, CA 92612. The BBB profile for Symple Lending LLC lists the same address. The Terms do not call the Irvine address a headquarters: Section 9 applies Florida law, "where Symple Lending's principal place of business is located", and sends disputes to courts in Florida. The careers page lists two offices, one in Tampa, Florida, and one in Irvine. BBB names Houston Fraley as CEO.

What it offers. The site advertises personal loans, consolidation loans and home improvement loans, with fixed rates "starting at 6.99% APR", and invites visitors to compare offers from multiple lenders. It says checking a rate uses a soft credit inquiry. A table of sample offers names SoFi, Prosper, Upgrade and Best Egg, with a note that actual offers may differ. The footer gives licensing details for partners: Achieve Personal Loans (NMLS #227977), HELOCs from Achieve Loans (NMLS #1810501) and ML Enterprise Inc., also known as Engine by MoneyLion (NMLS #1475872). For visitors who arrive through a paid Google or Bing ad, the footer says rate quotes are no greater than 35.99% APR, with terms from 61 days to 180 months, and gives an example: a $10,000 loan over 36 months at 10% costs $11,616.12 in total. Loan terms are stated differently in different places on the homepage (24 to 84 months in the feature list, up to 60 months for personal loans and up to 72 months for consolidation loans). The Terms do not list a fee that Symple Lending itself charges consumers; fees, if any, appear in each lender's offer.

More company historyShow less

Licensing. The footer says Symple Lending, LLC is a Utah licensed lender under the Utah Department of Financial Institutions, NMLS #2508833. You can look up that number, the license types and their status yourself at nmlsconsumeraccess.org.

Founding date. The About Us page says the company was founded in 2022. BBB gives a business start date of January 6, 2021 and shows BBB accreditation since September 27, 2021, and a federal docket names a Symple Lending, LLC in December 2021 (see the court section).

How it describes itself elsewhere. The company-written description on Trustpilot calls Symple Lending a financial services company focused on helping consumers reduce their debts, which is broader than the loan-only description on its own website.

Look-alike names. Other businesses use similar names. In July 2026 Symple Lending LLC sued "Symple Path Lending" and other defendants for trademark infringement; that case ended in September 2026 (see the court section). Frequently Asked Questions

Who owns and operates Symple Lending?

The Terms of Use say "The Site is owned and operated by Symple Lending, LLC" and give its contact address as 3351 Michelson Dr Suite 400, Irvine, CA 92612; the same Terms place its principal place of business in Florida, and the careers page lists offices in Tampa and Irvine. BBB names Houston Fraley as CEO.

Does Symple Lending offer loans for bad credit?

Symple Lending's home page says its lending partners work with borrowers of all credit profiles, and its "Loans by Credit Score" chart starts at the 550-599 band. The fine print on its consolidation loans page says your actual rate depends on credit score, loan amount, loan term, domicile, and credit usage and history, and is agreed between you and the lender. Check the lender's name and the APR in the written offer before you accept.

Is Symple Lending a direct lender or does it connect me with other lenders?

Its site says both. The footer describes Symple Lending, LLC as a Utah licensed lender (NMLS #2508833), while Section 17 of the Terms says that submitting a request means "you are submitting a request to be connected with one of our third-party advertisers or lenders", and the homepage invites you to compare offers from multiple lenders. Each offer should name the lender making it; check that name and its NMLS number before you accept.

Does checking a rate with Symple Lending affect my credit score?

According to the homepage, checking your rate uses a soft credit inquiry that does not affect your credit score, and a hard inquiry happens only if you choose to go ahead with a specific loan offer. A hard inquiry can lower your score slightly, so read the chosen lender's disclosures before you submit a full application.

How do I stop Symple Lending calls and texts?

Reply STOP to any text; Section 10 of the Terms says you will then get one final message confirming the opt-out. You can also opt out by email at [email protected], by phone at 866-315-2175, or by mail to 3351 Michelson Drive, Suite 400, Irvine, CA 92612. Calls from partner companies have to be stopped with each caller separately: ask for the company name and include it in your written opt-out.

Where can I file a complaint about Symple Lending?

Start with the company in writing at [email protected] (phone 866-315-2175). If that does not resolve it, file with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, your state attorney general and BBB. NMLS Consumer Access (NMLS ID 2508833) shows the states where Symple Lending is licensed; the regulator that issued a license also takes complaints. Texas residents can file with the Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner, and Utah residents can contact the Utah Department of Financial Institutions ([email protected], 801-538-8830), which takes written complaints about the institutions it regulates; California residents can use the California DFPI. If you paid a fee by credit card for a service you did not receive, you can dispute it with your card issuer within 60 days of the statement.

What if I applied for a Symple Lending loan and was offered a debt-relief program?

A debt-settlement program is not a loan. The CFPB advises avoiding any company that charges fees before it settles your debts, and warns that these companies often charge expensive fees, that late fees and interest keep adding up on cards you stop paying, and that creditors may sue. The FTC says a debt settlement company must tell you its fees, conditions and terms before you sign up and cannot collect fees before it settles a debt. Symple Lending's loan pages describe loans only, but a BBB complaint from August 2026 describes a consumer who applied for a loan being encouraged to join a "Freedom Program", and the company replied that the client chose to stay in it. Get the provider's name and fees in writing before you agree.

What does BBB show for Symple Lending?

BBB's page for Symple Lending LLC in Irvine, CA shows the business as BBB Accredited with an A+ rating. It lists 45 complaints in the last three years, 15 of them in the last 12 months, and customer reviews averaging 4.13 out of 5 across 340 reviews. A BBB rating reflects how a business handles complaints and other BBB criteria; it is not a rating of loan terms.

What does Trustpilot show for Symple Lending?

Trustpilot shows a TrustScore of 4.9 from more than 11,000 reviews, 96 percent of them 5-star and 2 percent 1-star. The profile is claimed by the company with a paid subscription; Trustpilot says the company invites its customers to review it and has replied to 96 percent of negative reviews.

Has Symple Lending been sued?

Federal dockets name Symple Lending in seven cases, and all of them have ended. Two Telephone Consumer Protection Act suits (S.D. Fla., filed 2024 and 2025) and two Fair Credit Reporting Act suits (S.D. Ohio, filed 2023 and 2024) were voluntarily dismissed by the consumers who brought them. A 2025 trademark suit by lawyer Eric J. Troutman and his firm Troutman Amin ended in June 2026, when the court granted the parties' joint stipulation dismissing the plaintiffs' claims with prejudice. A 2026 trademark suit that Symple Lending filed itself was terminated in September 2026, and a 2021 contract dispute with another business ended with a voluntary dismissal in January 2023. None of the dockets shows a judgment against the company; the court section of this profile gives what each docket shows.
