Spire Recovery Solutions

Spire Recovery Solutions, LLC is a Lockport, New York debt collection agency that says it represents creditors; its own pages do not name them, so the creditor should appear in the notice you received. If an account is unfamiliar, federal law ties the collector's duty to verify the debt to a written dispute sent within thirty days of the validation notice, and Spire lists phone, portal, mail and ticket channels for disputes and payments. Public records show an active New York City debt collection agency license and a BBB Accredited listing; BBB complaints and federal lawsuits are allegations, and this page reports their counts and docket entries separately below, with no rating of its own.

Contacted by Spire Recovery Solutions? Validation notice, disputes and payments

Spire Recovery Solutions, LLC is a debt collection agency based in Lockport, New York. Its own About page states, "WE REPRESENT CREDITORS IN THE COLLECTION OF OUTSTANDING ACCOUNT BALANCES," and its FAQ page says: "You may have an account with one of our client creditors that was placed with us for collection." The Spire pages checked on 2026-09-30 do not name the creditors it works for, so the name of the creditor has to come from the notice you received or from Spire itself. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Validation notice and dispute rights. According to the CFPB, when a debt collector first contacts you it is "in general, legally required to provide you with certain information about the debt during that initial communication or within five days of the initial communication," and that validation information "includes the name of the creditor, the amount you owe, and how to dispute the debt." Under 15 U.S.C. 1692g(b), if you notify the collector in writing within the thirty-day period that the debt is disputed, it "shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt" and mails it to you. The CFPB adds that in certain situations "you only have 30 days" after being contacted to ask for certain information, and that avoiding or ignoring a call about a valid debt "usually won't make them go away." Under 15 U.S.C. 1692g(a)(5), the validation notice must state that, "upon the consumer's written request within the thirty-day period, the debt collector will provide the consumer with the name and address of the original creditor, if different from the current creditor." For a debt you do not recognize or believe you already paid, the CFPB says: "Ask the debt collector for any evidence they have that indicates you are the correct debtor and what they are relying on to calculate the amount due." Keep copies of every letter and message you send or receive.

Spire's own channels (company pages, checked 2026-09-30):

  • Phone: (844) 978-0072. Spire's pages publish different hours: its website Contact Us page lists "Mon - Fri: 9am - 5:30pm EST" (the Make a Payment page lists Monday to Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern), while its consumer portal Contact page lists "Monday-Thursday: 9am to 6pm ET" and "Friday: 9am to 2pm ET." Check the page you are using before calling.
  • Verifying an account: the FAQ says, "You can verify your debt by calling us directly or using our secure online portal." This is Spire's stated route; the written-dispute rights described above are separate.
  • Disputes: the FAQ says "Spire Recovery Solutions accepts consumer disputes made verbally, electronically or through the mail," and links to its support ticket form at spiresupport.freshdesk.com. Correspondence address given on Spire's portal contact page: Spire Recovery Solutions, 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY 14094.
  • Complaints: the FAQ says "submit a ticket or call us at (855) 254-4651." The Consumer Resources page lists its Chief Compliance Officer, Clifton Gibson, at (855) 439-0823 and [email protected].
  • Payments: an online portal (the FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover), by phone, or by mailed check or money order ("Please do not mail cash"; include the account number). The FAQ says the portal can be used to "view your balance, make a payment, or request a payment plan."
  • Refunds and fees: Spire's Refund page (marked 2026-05-21) is a general policy statement and does not say which payments it covers. It says: "If you are not 100% satisfied with your service, within 30 days from the charge date, we will fully refund the cost of your payment," adds "Please allow up to seven days for your refund to take place," and, under "Fee Policy," says customers "will not be charged a fee for payment processing at any time for payments made via Visa or Mastercard." Ask Spire in writing how the policy applies to a specific payment. The page also says that to cancel service you contact Spire "via email or phone."
  • Calls, texts and email: its Communication Preferences page says consent to be contacted by email, phone or text "is entirely optional and may be withdrawn at any time by submitting a request," and its SMS terms say to text STOP to opt out.

Credit reporting. Two Spire pages answer differently. Its FAQ page, under "When Will This Report on My Credit Report?", states: "Spire Recovery Solutions does not report to the credit reporting agencies; however, the owner of an account in our office may report the account to the credit reporting agencies." Its homepage FAQ, under "Does Spire Recovery Solutions report to credit bureaus?", states: "In some cases, yes. We report in accordance with applicable laws. Contact us for account-specific details." Because the two statements differ, ask Spire and the creditor in writing how a specific account is reported, and check your credit reports from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.

Court papers. Two Spire pages address this differently. Its FAQ states: "No, Spire Recovery Solutions does not sue consumers," and adds that "creditors may sometimes pursue legal remedies." Its June 2026 article, under "Does Spire Recovery Solutions Sue?", says: "Whether legal action is involved can depend on the account, the creditor, the circumstances, and applicable law," and "Any summons, complaint, or court notice related to a debt should be taken seriously." Both are company statements; if you receive court papers, check the deadlines on them. Federal lawsuits that name Spire as a defendant are described below.

Where to complain. The CFPB states, "If you're having an issue with debt collection, you can submit a complaint with the CFPB" (consumerfinance.gov/complaint/). The New York Attorney General has a "File a complaint" page (ag.ny.gov/file-complaint). BBB and the company's own channels are listed above. A company-name search of the CFPB public complaint database on 2026-09-30 did not return Spire Recovery Solutions; that does not limit what a consumer can submit to the CFPB.

Regulators and licenses: what was and was not found

No enforcement action, consent order or license discipline naming Spire Recovery Solutions was identified in the sources checked on 2026-09-30. Those sources were: the CFPB enforcement actions page filtered by title "spire" (the page reported no results), the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation site search for "spire recovery" (no matching page), and general web searches for consent orders, attorney general settlements and license revocations. State regulator databases that require interactive searches (for example NMLS Consumer Access, which displayed a verification screen that was not completed) were not searched, so this is not a statement about every state.

For the license record that could be read directly: the NYC Open Data dataset "Legally Operating Businesses" lists license 2047600-DCA, business category "Debt Collection Agency," for "Spire Recovery Solutions LLC" at 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY, with status "Active," created 2017-01-24 and expiring 2027-01-31 (record re-queried 2026-10-03). The record's contact phone is (716) 573-6334, which differs from the (844) number on Spire's website; the record does not say whose line it is. Spire's own site lists additional identifiers without naming the issuing states (see Company background).

Company background

Entity. The New York Department of State record (data.ny.gov, queried 2026-09-30) lists SPIRE RECOVERY SOLUTIONS LLC, DOS ID 4536420, a domestic limited liability company with an initial filing date of February 28, 2014, in Niagara County, with a service-of-process address at 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY 14094. The company says on its site that it was founded by U.S. military veterans Jacob Torriere and Joseph Torriere and that it is "a respected and compliant collection agency headquartered in Lockport, NY." BBB lists Joseph Torriere as President, Clifton Gibson as Chief Compliance Officer and Rodney Giove, Esquire, as Director of Compliance.

Identifiers the company publishes. The footer of spirerecoverysolutions.com lists, under the Chief Compliance Officer, "CCO Certification: #P2009-1384," "Company Certification: #C2010-1149," "NMLS ID: #1374673" and "NFID license: #CAD11771," and, under its Compliance Manager, "NMLS Number: #1374099" and "NFID Certificate: #CM12832." The site describes itself as "nationally licensed" but does not list the states. These identifiers were read from Spire's pages and were not independently checked in the issuing registries.

Earlier address and Colorado listing. The Colorado Attorney General's "Active Collection Agencies" list (PDF updated 12/17/2021) shows SPIRE RECOVERY SOLUTIONS LLC at 330 S Transit St, Lockport, NY 14094, with a Colorado local office at 8690 Wolff Court, Suite 110, Westminster, Colorado, license CAR-1000665, status "Active." That list is almost five years old, and the current Colorado license status was not checked.

Memberships and claims by the company. Spire says it is a member of ACA International and an "RMAI Certified Receivables Business," and a January 6, 2026 company article says it maintains SOC 2 compliance. These are the company's statements; they were not checked with ACA International, RMAI or an auditor.

Two BBB listings. BBB displays a BBB Accredited listing for Spire Recovery Solutions LLC in Lockport, NY (used on this page), and a separate listing, "Spire Recovery Solutions," at 1055 S Sherman St, Suite 100, Richardson, TX 75081 (not accredited, BBB file opened 2022-07-05), with the same business description and the same incorporation date of 2014-02-28. Spire's own Contact Us page lists only the Lockport address; the relationship between the two BBB records was not established.

Complaint record: USAComplaints, BBB, CFPB and others, reported separately

Counts below are snapshots as displayed on 2026-10-03 (unchanged from 2026-09-30) and are kept in this section only; each source counts differently, none of them is a finding, and the numbers are not added together.

  • USAComplaints: no approved complaint posts about Spire Recovery Solutions were found as of 2026-10-03, so this page has no complaint themes.
  • BBB (Lockport, NY listing), as displayed on 2026-10-03: BBB Accredited (BBB raw data: accredited 2020-08-06), rating A-, "169 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "30 complaints closed in the last 12 months." BBB customer reviews: 1.38 out of 5, "Average of 21 Customer Reviews." The three newest reviews shown (dated 2026-07-21, 2026-07-31 and 2026-08-28) are each 1 star: one reviewer says Spire contacts family members and prior employment locations despite the reviewer's instructions, one says Spire refused to turn off autopay when asked, and one describes a call about settling a debt that ended after the representative said the reviewer had texted to stop. These are reviewers' statements, not findings. BBB complaints and reviews are allegations by consumers; BBB states that it does not verify information provided by third parties, so the counts are what BBB displayed, not verified totals. The separate Richardson, TX listing (not accredited) displayed rating A- and the same "169 total complaints" and "30 complaints closed" text on its complaints page. Spire's FAQ refers to "our A+ by the Better Business Bureau"; BBB displayed A- on both dates. BBB file opened 2015-03-04; business started and incorporated 2014-02-28 (BBB raw data).
  • CFPB Consumer Complaint Database: the database's company-name lookup for "spire" and for "Spire Recovery" did not list a company named Spire Recovery Solutions (checked 2026-09-30 and again 2026-10-03), and a full-text search of the database for "spire recovery" returned no results on 2026-10-03. Why was not established, and the absence does not show that no complaint was submitted, so this page draws no conclusion from it.
  • Trustpilot (profile spirerecoverysolutions.com): unclaimed profile, 0 reviews as displayed on 2026-10-03.
  • ComplaintsBoard: 2 reviews and 8 complaints shown on its Spire Recovery Solutions page (page marked "Updated on Aug 31, 2026"; a "Claim Your Business" button was displayed; re-read 2026-10-03).
  • Company website: the spirerecoverysolutions.com homepage displays a Google reviews widget reading "4.7 Based on 1694 reviews." This is company-controlled content and was not checked against Google.

Federal lawsuits that name Spire Recovery Solutions

What was checked. On 2026-09-30 a CourtListener RECAP search for cases whose caption contains "Spire Recovery Solutions" displayed 49 results; 48 could be retrieved by paging. On 2026-10-03 the same caption search again displayed 49 cases (601 docket entries). By filing year the 48 retrieved on 2026-09-30 are: 2018 (1), 2020 (2), 2021 (5), 2022 (4), 2023 (5), 2024 (10), 2025 (12), 2026 (9). RECAP is a partial archive of federal PACER records, so this is a count of what that archive shows, not of all cases. A separate CourtListener query for the phrase "Spire Recovery Solutions" anywhere in the record displayed 93 cases on 2026-10-03; it searches all fields rather than only the caption, so the two numbers are not comparable and the caption count is the one used on this page. A caption match does not by itself show that each case names this Lockport company or what it alleges; the dockets of the 38 cases filed from July 2022 onward were opened for this page; the 10 older ones (filed 2018 to April 2022) were not. A docket entry titled "Notice of Settlement" does not disclose any terms, and most of the complaints themselves are not in the free archive, so the claims are not known for most of these cases.

Claims that the dockets state. The docket for McCune (S.D. Ind. 1:22-cv-02329), Ruiz (W.D. Tex. 1:24-cv-00560), Beauford (D.S.C. 2:24-cv-04424) and Goff (M.D. Fla. 8:24-cv-02804) lists nature of suit "480 Consumer Credit" and cause "15:1692 Fair Debt Collection Act." Justia's docket pages list the Fair Debt Collection Act as the cause of action in Kappos (N.D. Ohio) and McCarty (D.N.M. 1:22-cv-00519) and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (47 U.S.C. 227) in Randolph (S.D. Ill.) and Rayle (W.D.N.Y. 1:24-cv-00886).

Examples of docket activity (docket entry titles, not findings):

  • Hearn (M.D. Fla. 3:25-cv-00671): "Notice of settlement" on 2025-09-24, "Order Dismissing Case" on 2025-09-25.
  • Garza (W.D. Tex. 5:26-cv-00501): "Notice of Settlement" on 2026-02-10, "Notice of Voluntary Dismissal" on 2026-03-26.
  • Martin (M.D. Fla. 3:26-cv-00139): clerk's entry of default on 2026-07-02, notice of settlement on 2026-07-16, notice of voluntary dismissal on 2026-08-28.
  • Preston (S.D. Ind. 1:26-cv-00808) and Quintero (S.D. Fla. 1:26-cv-24380): notices of voluntary dismissal on 2026-06-17 and 2026-08-31.
  • Bills (M.D. Fla. 8:26-cv-00864): the docket's first entry, filed by Spire on 2026-03-27, is titled "Complaint and Notice of Removal" from Hillsborough County case 26-CC-00774 (filed in state court on 2026-02-16). Spire filed a motion to dismiss on 2026-04-17. An order of 2026-04-20 states that on March 27, 2026 the defendant "filed a civil cover sheet and documents which appear to have been filed in state court," that it had not filed a notice of removal, and directs it to file one within seven days; an entry titled "Notice of Removal" by Spire is dated 2026-04-29. On 2026-05-13 the court granted the plaintiff's "Unopposed Motion to Remand Untimely Removal," directed the clerk to remand the case to the County Court in and for Hillsborough County, and closed the federal file. Later activity in the state court was not checked (PacerMonitor docket, last updated 2026-10-01).
  • Riley (D. Ariz. 2:26-cv-02082; the clerk's notice on the docket gives the case number as CV 26-02080 PHX-DJH): filed 2026-03-26; Spire answered on 2026-05-07 and a scheduling order of 2026-06-17 sets discovery to close 2027-03-19. On 2026-09-25 Spire filed a stipulation to extend the discovery deadline; on 2026-09-28 the court entered an order "striking the Stipulation ... as moot," citing the scheduling order's provision that "The parties may mutually agree in writing, without Court approval, to extend the time provided for discovery responses in Rules 33, 34, and 36 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure." That order is not a ruling on the merits or a settlement. The docket (PacerMonitor, last updated 2026-10-01) shows no dismissal or settlement entry; the complaint's claims were not reviewed here.
  • Jones (N.D. Ala. 3:25-cv-01723) and Spencer (N.D. Ala. 3:25-cv-01993): Justia's docket pages, last retrieved March 31, 2026, list Spire Recovery Solutions, LLC and Metacorp, LLC as defendants, with the Fair Debt Collection Act as the cause of action. Each docket shows a notice of settlement in December 2025, a notice of voluntary dismissal on March 30, 2026, and a clerk's minute entry on March 31, 2026 stating that the plaintiff "voluntarily requests the dismissal of this action with prejudice" and "This case is CLOSED."
  • Havranek (N.D. Ala. 3:25-cv-01768) and Keller (W.D.N.Y. 1:26-cv-01297): the CourtListener archive shows only the initial filing for each (October 14, 2025 and June 25, 2026); a later docket for Havranek was not located on 2026-09-30, so its status is not stated here.
  • Meininger v. Spire (Bankr. M.D. Fla. 8:25-ap-00137): an adversary proceeding in a bankruptcy case in which Spire is the defendant; "Order Dismissing Adversary" on 2025-07-21. The claims were not reviewed.

These cases name Spire as a defendant; they are not suits brought by Spire. Spire's FAQ states that it "does not sue consumers," while its June 2026 article says whether legal action is involved "can depend on the account, the creditor, the circumstances, and applicable law."

Is Spire Recovery Solutions Legitimate?

Spire Recovery Solutions LLC is a New York domestic limited liability company (DOS ID 4536420, initial filing February 28, 2014) that holds an active New York City Debt Collection Agency license (2047600-DCA, expiring January 31, 2027, per NYC Open Data queried 2026-09-30) and a BBB Accredited listing in Lockport, NY, with an A- rating as displayed on 2026-10-03. It publishes an address, a phone number and a payment portal on its own website. Federal cases naming it have been filed in many districts; the litigation section lists what the dockets show, including cases that are open, remanded to a county court, dismissed, or closed after notices of settlement (settlement terms are not on the dockets). No regulator enforcement action naming it was identified in the sources checked on 2026-09-30. This page assigns Spire no rating and draws no conclusion about any individual account; if a notice looks unfamiliar, the steps above (validation information, a written dispute within the thirty-day period, and a check of the contact details against Spire's official pages) apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Spire Recovery Solutions and why did it contact me?

Spire Recovery Solutions, LLC is a debt collection agency at 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY, registered with the New York Department of State on February 28, 2014. Its About page says "WE REPRESENT CREDITORS IN THE COLLECTION OF OUTSTANDING ACCOUNT BALANCES," and its FAQ says a contact may concern "an account with one of our client creditors that was placed with us for collection." Spire's pages do not name its creditor clients; the notice you received should name the creditor and the amount, and you can ask Spire for that information at (844) 978-0072.

How do I dispute a debt with Spire Recovery Solutions?

Under 15 U.S.C. 1692g(b), a written dispute sent within thirty days after you receive the collector's validation notice requires the collector to "cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt" and mails it to you. Spire's FAQ says it accepts disputes "verbally, electronically or through the mail"; its support ticket form is at spiresupport.freshdesk.com/support/tickets/new and its mailing address is 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY 14094. The FAQ also says, "You can verify your debt by calling us directly or using our secure online portal." Under 15 U.S.C. 1692g(a)(5) you can ask in writing, within the thirty-day period, for the name and address of the original creditor if different from the current creditor. Sending the dispute in writing and keeping a copy creates a record of the date.

How can I check that a call or letter comes from Spire?

Spire's June 2026 article advises comparing the contact details in a letter or message with those on its official website and using its official website and confirmed contact information before paying or sharing sensitive information. Its site lists (844) 978-0072, 57 Canal Street, Suite 302, Lockport, NY 14094, and a payment portal at portal.spirerecoverysolutions.com. Public records also show a New York entity (DOS ID 4536420) and an active NYC Debt Collection Agency license, 2047600-DCA; a record match does not prove that a particular call or letter is genuine.

How do I pay Spire or ask for a payment plan?

Spire's Make a Payment page lists three ways: its online consumer portal, by phone at (844) 978-0072, and by mail to 57 Canal St., Suite 302, Lockport, NY 14094 as a check or money order ("Please do not mail cash"; include your account number). Its FAQ lists Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover for portal payments and says the portal lets you "request a payment plan." Phone hours differ between Spire's pages: the website Contact Us and Make a Payment pages list Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Eastern, while the portal Contact page lists Monday to Thursday 9am to 6pm ET and Friday 9am to 2pm ET. Spire's Refund page states a general policy without saying which payments it covers: customers "will not be charged a fee for payment processing at any time for payments made via Visa or Mastercard," and it offers a refund "within 30 days from the charge date." Ask Spire in writing how this applies to a specific payment.

Will Spire report the debt to the credit bureaus?

Two Spire pages answer differently. Its FAQ page states: "Spire Recovery Solutions does not report to the credit reporting agencies; however, the owner of an account in our office may report the account to the credit reporting agencies," adding that updates "can take 60-90 days to show on your credit report." Its homepage FAQ, asked "Does Spire Recovery Solutions report to credit bureaus?", answers: "In some cases, yes. We report in accordance with applicable laws. Contact us for account-specific details." Both are the company's statements; your credit reports from Equifax, Experian and TransUnion show what is actually reported, and you can ask Spire and the creditor in writing about a specific account.

How do I stop calls or texts from Spire?

Spire's Communication Preferences page says consent to receive email, phone calls and text messages "is entirely optional and may be withdrawn at any time by submitting a request," and its SMS terms say to text STOP to opt out of text messages. The CFPB says you can notify a debt collector in writing to stop communicating with you and that, under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, collectors violate the law when they "harass, oppress, or abuse" you.

Does Spire sue consumers, and has Spire been sued?

Spire's FAQ states, "No, Spire Recovery Solutions does not sue consumers," adding that "creditors may sometimes pursue legal remedies." Its June 2026 article on the same question says: "Whether legal action is involved can depend on the account, the creditor, the circumstances, and applicable law." Separately, a CourtListener caption search for "Spire Recovery Solutions" displayed 49 federal cases on 2026-09-30 and again on 2026-10-03, filed between 2018 and June 2026, including 9 filed in 2026. The dockets opened show different statuses: some are open (for example Riley in D. Ariz., where a discovery stipulation was struck as moot on 2026-09-28), one was remanded to a county court, and others were dismissed or closed after notices of settlement or voluntary dismissals. Settlement notices disclose no terms, docket entries are not findings, and the claims are not stated in most of the dockets. See the litigation section above.

Where can I file a complaint about Spire Recovery Solutions?

Spire's FAQ invites complaints through its support ticket form or (855) 254-4651, and its Consumer Resources page lists the Chief Compliance Officer at (855) 439-0823 and [email protected]. Outside the company, the CFPB accepts debt collection complaints at consumerfinance.gov/complaint/, the New York Attorney General has a complaint page at ag.ny.gov/file-complaint, and BBB accepts complaints on Spire's BBB profile. A CFPB database lookup on 2026-09-30 and 2026-10-03 did not list a company named Spire Recovery Solutions, which does not limit what you can submit.

Why does BBB show two listings for Spire Recovery Solutions?

BBB displays a BBB Accredited listing for Spire Recovery Solutions LLC in Lockport, NY, and a separate non-accredited listing for "Spire Recovery Solutions" at 1055 S Sherman St, Suite 100, Richardson, TX 75081 (file opened 2022-07-05), both showing an incorporation date of 2014-02-28 and the same business description (see the Complaint record section for what each displayed on 2026-10-03). Spire's own Contact Us page lists only the Lockport address, and the relationship between the two BBB records was not established. This page uses the Lockport listing.
