SoFi: how to reach SoFi, dispute a charge or credit-report entry, and where to complain (checked October 11, 2026)

This page was compiled from SoFi's own pages, SEC filings, regulator documents, court dockets and BBB, Trustpilot and CFPB listings opened on October 11, 2026. This site's archive had no approved posts about SoFi on that date (see the complaint record below), so the page does not rely on reader complaints.

Know which SoFi entity you deal with. SoFi's website says its personal loans are originated by SoFi Bank, N.A. (Member FDIC), and that its loan marketplace is owned and operated by SoFi Lending Corp. and 'is NOT operated by SoFi Bank'. SoFi Technologies' Form 10-K for 2025 says SoFi Technologies is a bank holding company, SoFi Bank is a national bank, and that SoFi Bank and SoFi Lending Corp. both conduct loan servicing. FINRA's 2023 order describes SoFi Securities LLC as the SoFi firm that provides self-directed trading to retail investors.

Contact SoFi. The Contact Us page lists '(855) 456-SOFI (7634)', Monday to Thursday 5 AM to 7 PM PT and Friday to Sunday 5 AM to 5 PM PT, plus chat ('virtual assistance is available 24/7 online or in the SoFi app' and live agents during business hours). For suspicious activity the fraud page says to call 855-456-7634 (option 8) or chat online, and that SoFi will 'never call you to request personal info or one-time passwords'. The SoFi Help Center has topic pages named 'Transaction disputes' and 'Profile & account closures'; the step-by-step rules differ by product, so read the article for your product there.

Credit-report disputes by mail. The Contact Us page lists 'SoFi Credit Bureau Dispute, PO Box 654081, Dallas, TX 75265-4081' for credit card, personal loan, personal line of credit or charged-off student loans; 'PO Box 77404, Ewing, NJ 08628' for mortgage loans; 'SoFi, PO Box 82546, Lincoln, NE 68501-2546' for student loans; and, under the heading 'Golden Pacific Bank', 'SoFi Credit Bureau Dispute, 1409 28th Street, Sacramento, CA 95816'. Payment addresses are listed separately by product (for example 'SoFi Servicing, PO Box 2595, Omaha, NE 68103-2595' for student loans).

Arbitration terms. SoFi's Dispute Resolution Agreement page (https://www.sofi.com/login/policy/arbitration) is the agreement a person accepts by clicking 'I Agree' on SoFi's website. It covers claims 'arising out of or related to' registration on the website, submission of information in connection with a non-mortgage loan, an application for a non-mortgage loan, SoFi's career services or entrepreneur program, and the disclosures provided in connection with a non-mortgage loan. Claims are resolved by individual binding arbitration before the AAA 'at my or your election', with a class action waiver. It says 'I may reject this Dispute Resolution Agreement by mailing a signed rejection notice to SOFI LENDING CORP. P.O. Box 29372, San Francisco, CA 94129-0372 within sixty (60) days after registering on SoFi's website.' It excludes 'any individual action brought by me in small claims court', says it does not apply to members of the armed forces or dependents covered by the Federal Military Lending Act, and says: 'if I subsequently obtain a non-mortgage loan from SoFi, the arbitration agreement in the loan documentation will supersede this Dispute Resolution Agreement.' The arbitration terms and any opt-out for a funded loan, or for a deposit, card or brokerage account, are in that product's own agreement, which this page does not quote.

Regulator complaint routes. The CFPB's complaint page covers financial products and says 'Most companies respond within 15 days' (phone (855) 411-2372). For SoFi Bank, N.A., the OCC's Customer Assistance Group lists (800) 613-6743 and HelpWithMyBank.gov for national-bank customers. Brokerage matters can also go to FINRA, and state banking regulators and attorneys general accept complaints; SoFi's legal page itself directs Alaska residents to the Alaska Division of Banking & Securities for unresolved issues with SoFi Lending Corp.

SoFi regulator matters: FTC order (2019), FINRA settlements (2023, 2024), SEC order against SoFi Wealth (2021)

FTC, Docket No. C-4673, issued February 22, 2019. The Decision and Order names 'Social Finance, Inc., a corporation, also d/b/a SoFi, and SoFi Lending Corp.'. The Decision says respondents 'neither admit nor deny any of the allegations in the Complaint', except facts needed for jurisdiction. The order bars them, in connection with advertising a credit product, from misrepresenting that consumers 'have saved, will save, or will likely save money', including 'by representing that the amount saved over a specific time period will be zero when consumers may instead pay more money', requires 'competent and reliable evidence' for such claims, and sets reporting and recordkeeping duties. It says it 'will terminate on February 22, 2039', or 20 years from the most recent date a complaint alleging a violation is filed in federal court, whichever is later. The order imposes no money payment. SoFi's 2025 Form 10-K still describes it as the 'FTC Consent Order'.

FINRA, SoFi Securities LLC, December 2023 (AWC No. 2021072127101). In a Letter of Acceptance, Waiver and Consent the firm consented 'without admitting or denying' FINRA's findings that from January 2019 through March 2023 it failed to maintain a reasonably designed supervisory system for its fully paid securities lending business and that documents sent to more than two million retail investors misstated what customers would receive for participating. Sanctions: a censure, a $500,000 fine and restitution of $198,282.39 plus interest. BrokerCheck shows the matter as 'Final'.

FINRA, SoFi Securities LLC, May 2, 2024. BrokerCheck records an AWC (docket 2019062705801) in which FINRA alleged violations of customer identification program and identity-theft-prevention rules in connection with cash management accounts offered from 2018 through June 2022; the firm 'resolved this matter by entering into this acceptance, waiver and consent without admitting or denying the findings'. Sanctions: censure and a $1,100,000 fine. BrokerCheck's description says approximately 800 accounts were used to move approximately $8.6 million from customers of other institutions and that 'all injured parties were reimbursed'.

FINRA customer arbitration, SoFi Securities LLC, case 26-00128. BrokerCheck for SoFi Securities LLC lists one arbitration matter: allegation category 'TRADING DISPUTES-MANIPULATION', disputed product type 'OPTIONS', case initiated January 27, 2026, sum of all relief requested $545,999.78, disposition 'AWARD AGAINST PARTY' on September 17, 2026, sum of all relief awarded $3,917.26. BrokerCheck notes that there may be a non-monetary award and points to FINRA Awards Online for the full text; this page does not characterize the merits.

SEC, SoFi Wealth, LLC, August 19, 2021 (File No. 3-20466). SoFi Wealth, LLC (described by the SEC as a robo-adviser whose parent is Social Finance, Inc.) agreed, 'without admitting or denying the SEC's findings', to a cease-and-desist order, a censure, a $300,000 penalty and undertakings over its April 2019 move of client assets into two SoFi-sponsored ETFs without disclosing conflicts of interest. This is a different entity from SoFi Securities LLC.

Supervision. The Form 10-K says SoFi Bank is regulated and examined by the OCC and that, since January 1, 2024, SoFi Bank and its affiliates are subject to CFPB supervision. No CFPB enforcement action naming SoFi, Social Finance, SoFi Bank or SoFi Lending was identified on the CFPB enforcement-actions page, searched by those four title terms on October 11, 2026. The legal-proceedings note in the Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 names one pending matter, Smith v. SoFi Securities LLC (see the litigation record).

SoFi: who runs it and how it is organized

SoFi Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq Global Select Market, 'SOFI') lists its principal executive offices at 234 1st Street, San Francisco, CA 94105. Its Form 10-K for 2025 says 'We were founded in 2011' (company statement) and that it started with private student loan refinancing, and that 'since our inception through December 31, 2025, we have served approximately 13.6 million members' (company statement). The company says it was approved as a bank holding company in February 2022, that it acquired Golden Pacific Bancorp that month, and that SoFi Bank, N.A. is a nationally chartered bank; it says it is 'originating all new loans within SoFi Bank'.

SoFi lists products including checking and savings, personal loans, student loan refinancing, mortgages, credit cards, investing and crypto, and a loan platform business that originates loans for third-party partners. Court filings involving SoFi: Smith v. SoFi Securities (cash sweep), Cook v. SoFi Technologies (data incident), Citizens Bank v. SoFi Bank

Smith v. SoFi Securities, LLC, N.D. Cal., No. 3:26-cv-05456-JSC, filed June 5, 2026. The putative class complaint alleges that SoFi's cash sweep program moved uninvested brokerage cash into program-bank deposit accounts that paid below-market interest, 'at times as low as zero percent', and that defendants kept most of the earnings; the Form 10-Q describes the claims as breach of contract and breach of the implied covenant of good faith, concerning customers who participated in 'Apex Clearing Corporation's bank deposit sweep program', and says SoFi 'intend[s] to vigorously defend'. These are allegations. The docket shows an amended complaint on July 30, 2026 and entries through September 29, 2026 (case management and pro hac vice orders and a filing titled 'Dismiss' on September 25, 2026 whose contents were not available to us); no ruling on the merits and no class certification appears.

Cook v. SoFi Technologies, Inc., N.D. Cal., No. 3:26-cv-01722-SK, filed February 27, 2026. The complaint alleged unauthorized access to SoFi's systems 'on or between December 31, 2025, and January 3, 2026' affecting 'at least 38,049 individuals' (the complaint's figure; see the notice below for what SoFi reported). The plaintiff filed notices of voluntary dismissal on May 4, 2026 and the court entered an order dismissing the case with prejudice on May 6, 2026. The docket entries do not state why or whether any settlement was reached.

SoFi's own notice of the January 2026 incident. SoFi's letter of January 26, 2026 to the Washington State Attorney General, sent 'on behalf of SoFi Bank, N.A., and Social Finance, LLC', says that 'on or around January 2, 2026, SoFi discovered unauthorized activity in its systems, which occurred as a result of social engineering', that CrowdStrike was engaged and law enforcement notified, and that 'no unauthorized activity has been observed since January 3, 2026'. It says the data acquired was 'name, address, email address, phone numbers, date of birth, and employment and education information of approximately 38,049 state residents' (the figure is for Washington residents, not a national total). The sample customer notice attached to the letter says, in SoFi's words, that 'your account, password, and debit/credit card number(s) were never accessed' and that the investigation 'has found no evidence of fraud against our members' accounts'. SoFi's separate notices in other states were not reviewed.

Non-U.S. affiliate. SC Media (June 9, 2026), reporting Bleeping Computer, described a separate incident discovered April 30, 2026 involving a database managed by a third-party vendor used by SoFi Securities (Hong Kong) Limited; it is a Hong Kong affiliate and is not part of the U.S. matters above.

Citizens Bank, N.A. v. SoFi Bank, N.A., D. Conn., No. 3:26-cv-01459-SRU, filed September 9, 2026. Citizens Bank is a competitor, not a consumer: its complaint alleges that SoFi solicited and hired at least thirty Citizens mortgage employees, induced breaches of their employment agreements and misappropriated Citizens' confidential information, and asserts claims including trade secret misappropriation, tortious interference, unfair trade practices and federal RICO, and seeks injunctive relief and damages. These are allegations by an adverse business. The docket checked on October 11, 2026 shows a waiver of service executed on October 1, 2026 (entry 16) and no ruling and no answer.

Earlier class settlement. SoFi's 2025 Form 10-K says that on April 18, 2022 it settled a putative class action alleging that applicants who were conditional permanent residents or DACA holders were ineligible for loans or eligible only with a co-signer, and that it made 'an aggregate payment to the class and the class counsel in an immaterial amount'.

Other dockets. CourtListener lists many other cases naming SoFi entities, including individual consumer suits and bankruptcy filings listing SoFi accounts; the claims in those were not reviewed and are not described here.

Is SoFi Legitimate?

SoFi Technologies, Inc. files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC and its common stock trades on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under 'SOFI'.
