State approval. The catalog says the school "is approved to operate by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education", meaning it complies with state standards, and adds that approval "does not imply any endorsement or recommendation by the state". The school files annual reports with BPPE: the bureau's website hosts the school's catalogs for 2021-2022 and 2022 and its 2023-2024 Performance Fact Sheet. Before enrolling you can look the school up on bppe.ca.gov to confirm its approval is current.

Name, owner and legal form. The cover of the 2025 catalog gives the name as Sergio School of Trucking, Inc., and the catalog names Soliman Shehata as owner. The school's BBB profile describes the business as a sole proprietorship that started in 2014 and lists Ms. Ines Alfeazi as owner. The two sources differ on the legal form and the owner, so check which name and entity appear on the enrollment agreement you sign.

Reviews and complaints about the school

No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.

BBB. BBB gives the school an A+ rating. The school is not BBB accredited, and the profile shows no customer reviews and no complaints.

ComplaintsBoard. ComplaintsBoard shows a 1.0 rating based on 3 complaints and no reviews. All three were posted in January 2016, none is marked resolved, and no reply from the school is shown. All three concern refunds after a student was dismissed. One poster says a friend was removed from the program and ended up $500 short of the refund he expected. Another says he paid $900, was dismissed before the street-driving stage as "too slow a learner", was promised the full tuition back and did not receive it. The third, writing for a friend, says the friend paid $900, was dismissed, received $300 and was offered $100 more. These are the posters' own accounts and have not been tested in any proceeding; the refund rules the school publishes are set out in the cancellation section of this page.

Results the school reports to the state. On the 2023-2024 Performance Fact Sheet it files with BPPE, the school reports for its Class A program that 98 students started in 2023, 66 were due to finish within the period, and 62 finished on time (94 percent); for 2024 the figures are 89, 62 and 59 (95 percent). It reports the same 94 and 95 percent as the share of graduates employed in the field, and gives no salary data for any graduate. These are the school's own figures.

Cancelling, getting a refund and complaining about Sergio School of Trucking

Cancel in writing. The school's 2025 catalog gives a student the right to cancel "without any penalty of obligations, through attendance at the first-class session or the seventh calendar day after enrollment, whichever is later". Send or hand-deliver a written notice to Sergio School of Trucking, 45 W. Easy St., Suite 7, Simi Valley, CA 93065. The notice need not take any particular form, and a mailed notice counts from the day it is posted, so keep proof of mailing. The catalog says the school then refunds what you paid, less a registration or administration fee "not to exceed $250.00" and any equipment not returned in good condition, within 45 days after it receives the notice.

Withdrawing or being dismissed later. After the cancellation period you may withdraw at any time and receive a pro rata refund if you have completed 60 percent or less of the scheduled days in the current payment period, less the same fee of up to $250; past 60 percent "the tuition is considered earned" and no refund is due. The catalog treats a student as withdrawn when the school ends the enrollment, including for unsatisfactory progress or rule violations, and when a student misses class for 3 days, so a dismissed student is covered by the same pro rata rule. To work out the refund, the catalog takes the total charge minus non-refundable fees, divides it by the number of days in the program and multiplies that daily rate by the days you were scheduled to attend up to your last day of recorded attendance; that is the amount you owe, and the refund is what you paid above it. The catalog gives 45 days in its refund paragraphs and also states "Refund will be paid within 30 days of cancellation of withdrawal".

Other charges and rules. Schedule changes need 48 business hours' notice by phone to the office, not to the instructor, and missing a booked DMV test without notice costs an extra $125 rescheduling fee. Three unexcused absences are grounds for dismissal. The school rules agreement printed in the catalog, which students sign on enrollment, calls the $250 enrollment fee and the supply and written material fees non-refundable, and says the contract is valid for one year from signing, with no refunds or extensions after that. Keep your enrollment agreement, receipts and any refund correspondence.

If the school does not resolve it. The catalog's grievance procedure starts with the instructor or supervisor, then a written complaint to the Assistant Director, who is to meet you within 10 business days and answer within 5 business days of the meeting; you can then appeal in writing to the Director, who is to reply within 10 business days. Next, file a complaint with the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), which regulates the school: online at bppe.ca.gov, by phone at (888) 370-7589, or by mail to P.O. Box 980818, West Sacramento, CA 95798-0818. BPPE's Office of Student Assistance and Relief (osar.bppe.ca.gov) advises current and former students. If BPPE orders a refund and the school does not pay it, or the school closes, a California resident who prepaid tuition may be able to claim from the state Student Tuition Recovery Fund. If you paid by credit card for training that was not provided as agreed, you can also dispute the charge with your card issuer; under the Fair Credit Billing Act the written dispute must reach the issuer within 60 days after the statement showing the charge was sent; if that window has passed, ask the issuer whether other dispute rights still apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel an enrollment at Sergio School of Trucking?

Send or hand-deliver a written notice to Sergio School of Trucking, 45 W. Easy St., Suite 7, Simi Valley, CA 93065. Under the 2025 catalog you can cancel without penalty through the first class session or the seventh calendar day after enrollment, whichever is later; a mailed notice counts from the day it is posted, so keep proof of mailing. The school then refunds what you paid, less a registration or administration fee of up to $250 and any equipment not returned in good condition, within 45 days after it receives the notice.

Can I get a refund after classes have started?

Under the catalog, a student who withdraws after the cancellation period gets a pro rata refund if 60 percent or less of the scheduled days in the current payment period were completed, less a fee of up to $250 and any unreturned equipment; non-refundable fees are taken out before the daily rate is worked out. Past 60 percent the tuition is considered earned. The same rule applies when the school ends the enrollment, for example for unsatisfactory progress, or when a student misses class for 3 days. The catalog gives 45 days for the refund in one place and 30 days in another; if a refund is not paid, follow the grievance steps and then complain to BPPE.

How much does the CDL course cost?

The 2025 catalog lists $4,925.00 for the Class A program (168 hours), $3,815.50 for Class B (168 hours) and $2,474.00 for the Class A refresher (48 hours). Each total includes a $75 registration fee and $554 in supplies, materials and fees; extra behind-the-wheel training is $290 per two-hour class. A payment plan needs a $900 minimum deposit, with the balance due two business days before hands-on training starts. The home page advertises Class A "for only $1,900", which is far below the catalog total, so get the full price in the written enrollment agreement before paying.

Is the school approved by the state of California?

The school's catalog says it is approved to operate by the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE), which means it must meet state standards; the catalog adds that approval does not imply any endorsement or recommendation by the state. The school files annual reports with BPPE, and the bureau's website hosts its earlier catalogs and its 2023-2024 Performance Fact Sheet. You can confirm the current approval on bppe.ca.gov before enrolling.

Is Sergio School of Trucking on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry?

Under 49 CFR 380.609, a first-time Class A or Class B applicant, or a driver upgrading to Class A or B, must complete entry-level driver training (ELDT) with a provider on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry, and that provider reports the completed training through the registry by the end of the second business day (49 CFR 380.717). Students can confirm the school's listing, and that it covers the license class they need, by searching its name at tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov before paying. Drivers who already hold a CDL and take the refresher course are not affected by this rule.

Where can I complain about the school?

Start with the school's grievance procedure: raise the problem with the instructor or supervisor, then put it in writing to the Assistant Director, saying what happened and what outcome you want, and appeal in writing to the Director if needed. If that fails, complain to the California Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education, the state regulator for the school, online at bppe.ca.gov, by phone at (888) 370-7589 or by mail to P.O. Box 980818, West Sacramento, CA 95798-0818. BPPE's Office of Student Assistance and Relief (osar.bppe.ca.gov) helps students understand their options. For a credit card payment, a billing dispute with your card issuer must be made in writing within 60 days after the statement showing the charge was sent.

BBB gives the school an A+ rating; it is not BBB accredited and its BBB profile shows no reviews or complaints. These are the posters' own accounts.

Does the school help with job placement?

The catalog says the school provides job placement services, including resume preparation, job leads and interviews, and names Schneider National, Werner Enterprises, Covenant Transportation, Swift Transportation, U.S. Xpress and May Trucking as example employers. It also says the school stops placement help if a graduate misses 2 job interviews or appointments. On its 2023-2024 Performance Fact Sheet the school reports that 94 percent (2023) and 95 percent (2024) of Class A graduates were employed in the field, and gives no salary data; these are the school's own figures.
