Safe Ship Moving Services: what to check before booking and what to do if a move goes wrong (checked October 6, 2026)
Safe Ship Moving Services describes itself as a “licensed moving broker.” Its contact page says: “As a licensed interstate moving broker, Safe Ship Moving Services does not directly transport household goods or business property. Instead, we coordinate and arrange for the transportation of your property by an FMCSA-authorized motor carrier. All estimated charges and final actual charges will be based on the carrier’s tariff, which is available for inspection from the carrier upon reasonable request.” In practice that can mean two businesses on one move: the broker you booked with and the carrier whose crew and truck do the work. This page lists the routes each one offers, the federal rules FMCSA publishes, and the public record found on October 6, 2026.
Before you pay a deposit. FMCSA’s “Movers vs. Brokers” page says a broker must be registered with FMCSA, give you the “Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move” booklet and the “Ready to Move” brochure, provide a list of the moving companies it uses, use only registered movers, base binding or non-binding estimates “on the tariff of the mover that will transport your shipment,” and have that mover perform a physical survey of your goods (which you may waive). FMCSA’s red-flag list includes a mover or broker that gives an estimate “sight unseen,” does not provide a written estimate, “demands cash or a large deposit before the move,” or asks you to sign blank documents. The company’s FAQ says: “Many moving companies require a deposit to lock in your move date. Safe Ship Moving will guide you through the process and help you understand each company’s policy regarding deposits.” Practical checks:
- Ask which carrier will perform the move and get its name, USDOT and MC numbers in writing, then look it up in FMCSA’s Protect Your Move mover search.
- Ask for the written estimate, whether it is binding or non-binding, and the carrier’s tariff, which the contact page says is available from the carrier.
- Ask who holds the deposit (broker or carrier), what the cancellation and refund terms are, and get the answer in the contract you sign. The company publishes a separate Cancellation Policy and a Consumer Information page with a refund section (quoted below); the Terms of Service page examined on October 6, 2026 contained no deposit, cancellation or refund clause.
- Keep the estimate, bill of lading and inventory pages; FMCSA’s complaint checklist asks for them.
Cancellation, broker fee and refunds (company statements, opened October 7, 2026). The company’s Cancellation Policy page says: “It has been disclosed that the fee collected by Safe Ship Moving Services is a broker fee,” that the carrier’s charges “will be paid C.O.D.” to the carrier “in two payments” (first half at pickup, second half at delivery), and that “Safe Ship Moving Services does not participate in the collection of carrier payments nor do we share in the proceeds of carrier charges.” Its cancellation terms read: “you understand and agree to our broker fee being non-refundable with no exceptions 72 hours after signing your bill of lading,” and the policy adds that “Services may not be canceled after the customer’s property has been loaded on the truck.” The policy cites 49 CFR § 375.505(h); that citation is the company’s own legal characterization and was not checked here. The Consumer Information page has a refund section: for checks and e-checks “Refunds will not be processed until the funds have successfully cleared” (a 7–10 business day clearance period), wire transfers have a 3–5 business day clearance period, and “Prior to issuing any refund, Safe Ship Moving Services will contact the customer to confirm a valid mailing address.” The company’s FAQ separately says that “Many moving companies require a deposit to lock in your move date.” These are the company’s statements; the carrier’s own contract may carry separate terms.
Loss and damage claims (company’s Consumer Information page). The page says: “You have 9 months from the date of delivery (or in the event of loss for the entire shipment, from the date your shipment should have been delivered) to file your claim. The claim must be submitted in writing to your mover or its third-party claims processor,” and that the mover has 30 days to acknowledge receipt and 120 days to provide a disposition. The page also says that FMCSA cannot resolve these claims and that if a settlement cannot be reached the customer has the right to request arbitration.
If there is a problem. Routes the company publishes:
- Phone (888) 798-2852 (website header and FMCSA record). The contact page lists customer support at (561) 763-9532 and says customers with a Safe Ship Job Number can use “Submit a Ticket”; the About page lists different Sales and Support numbers (see Contacts).
- Email [email protected] (contact page).
- The Terms of Service (effective January 1, 2024), Section 10, name [email protected] for written notice before any formal dispute: parties agree to try to resolve it informally within 30 days, then mediation, then binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in Palm Beach County, Florida; arbitration under $50,000 “shall be conducted solely on an individual basis, not as a class or consolidated action.” Section 8 caps liability at “any fees you may have paid for our services.” Whether these terms govern a particular dispute, including one with the carrier that moved the goods, is a legal question this page does not decide; the carrier’s own contract may carry separate terms.
Outside the company:
- FMCSA moving-fraud complaint form at nccdb.fmcsa.dot.gov or 888-368-7238 ([email protected]). FMCSA says it “does not have the authority to resolve claims against a moving company,” but a complaint “will be maintained in the company’s file as part of its record.”
- BBB complaint (BBB profile linked under External profiles). BBB’s page lists the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, (800) 435-7352, among “Other Resources.”
- Your state attorney general or consumer-protection office, and the payment-card issuer if you paid by card (dispute windows are short, so check the issuer’s rules).
FMCSA registration record and enforcement search (checked October 6, 2026)
FMCSA registration. The FMCSA SAFER Company Snapshot for USDOT 3475743, re-opened October 7, 2026 (the page states its data reflect FMCSA systems “as of 10/05/2026”), shows: Legal Name VELLAR HOLDINGS LLC; DBA Name SAFE SHIP MOVING SERVICES; Entity Type BROKER; USDOT Status ACTIVE; Out of Service Date None; Operating Authority Status “AUTHORIZED FOR: Broker of Property (Except Household Goods)”; MC/MX/FF Number MC-1139083; physical and mailing address 7789 NW Beacon Square Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33487; phone (888) 798-2852; MCS-150 form date 08/25/2020; power units 0; inspections in the prior 24 months 0. The same snapshot marks “Household Goods” under Cargo Carried.
A second FMCSA record under the same name. The SAFER snapshot for USDOT 3570396, opened October 7, 2026 (data “as of 10/05/2026”), shows: Legal Name SAFE SHIP MOVING SERVICES LLC; DBA Name RAPID RELOCATION; Entity Type BROKER; USDOT Status ACTIVE; Operating Authority Status “AUTHORIZED FOR: Broker of Household Goods”; MC-1202480; address 19 Largo Way, Boynton Beach, FL 33426; phone (888) 798-2852; MCS-150 form date 02/16/2021. The two records list the same phone number. The company’s websites show USDOT 3475743 and MC-1139083, and the 3475743 record’s authority line names property other than household goods, while the 3570396 record’s authority line names household goods. This page does not explain the difference or say which record covers any particular move; FMCSA’s Licensing & Insurance page is the place to confirm authority and bond or insurance filings for each number (its public search required a challenge question that was not completed, so bond status was not read). A reader can ask the company, in writing, which FMCSA registration covers the shipment being booked.
Florida registration. FDACS states that any person who intends to operate as an intrastate mover of household goods or moving broker must register with FDACS. A company-specific FDACS registration record for Safe Ship Moving Services or Vellar Holdings LLC was not read on October 7, 2026, so no statement about its state registration is made here; FDACS says each contract of a mover or broker must include its Florida registration number.
Enforcement. No FTC press release, state attorney general action or FMCSA enforcement order naming Safe Ship Moving Services or Vellar Holdings LLC was found in the web searches and FMCSA pages checked on October 6, 2026. That is a statement about those searches, not a search of every agency database. FMCSA’s mover-search tool, which shows a company’s complaint history, was not read, so FMCSA complaint counts are not stated here.
Safe Ship Moving Services: who operates it
Who operates it. FMCSA lists the registrant as Vellar Holdings LLC doing business as Safe Ship Moving Services (USDOT 3475743, MC-1139083). Florida’s Sunbiz shows VELLAR HOLDINGS LLC (document L20000263464, filed 08/25/2020, status ACTIVE, 7789 NW Beacon Square Blvd, Boca Raton) and a separate Florida LLC named SAFE SHIP MOVING SERVICES LLC (document L21000053328, filed 01/29/2021, status ACTIVE) whose manager is listed as VELLAR HOLDINGS LLC. BBB’s profile is titled “Safe Ship Moving Services LLC,” lists “Vellar Holdings LLC” as an alternate name, and lists Maxwell Cole Parker (Chief Compliance Officer) and Stanley M Drinkard (Manager) under business management. Court captions in 2025 and 2026 read “Vellar Holdings, LLC d/b/a Safe Ship Moving Services, LLC.” BBB’s page data give a business start of September 14, 2020, incorporation of August 25, 2020 and a BBB file opened November 17, 2020.
What it sells. The website offers long-distance, interstate, local, military, corporate and white-glove moves, packing, storage and auto transport, and a “Move Manager App.” Its home page says: “Your move is performed by a licensed and insured motor carrier vetted by Safe Ship.” Its terms describe “brokerage services for moving estimates” that facilitate “communications with designated moving service providers.” Its FAQ says it is “licensed and bonded”; the bond filing itself was not read (see the FMCSA section). The company also runs safeshipmovingservices.com, which shows the same USDOT and MC numbers.
Company statements (not verified). The About page says the company is “Veteran-Owned & Operated,” has “100K+ Moves Completed,” “200+ Vetted Carriers,” “350+ Moving Experts,” ranked “No. 360 on the 2026 Inc. 5000 list,” and donates “10% of all our proceeds to charity.” The About page names Roger Vance as Chief Executive Officer; Sunbiz lists Roger Vance, Stanley Drinkard and Christopher Harder as authorized persons of Vellar Holdings LLC. The office is listed at 7789 NW Beacon Square Blvd, Boca Raton, FL 33487.

This site. No complaint posts about Safe Ship Moving Services were found in this site’s archive on October 6, 2026, so there are no own-archive complaints or complaint themes to summarize. The BBB, Trustpilot and company figures above come from different platforms with different rules and are not added together or compared as a score.
Safe Ship Moving Services court dockets (CourtListener, checked October 6, 2026)
The cases below come from CourtListener dockets opened on October 6, 2026; the Wang docket (Justia) and the Hemperley dismissal order (the court’s own PDF) were re-opened on October 7, 2026. Dockets often do not state the claims, and most underlying complaints and orders were not read, so subjects and terms are given only where the docket or order itself states them. A filing is an allegation, not a finding. Several of these cases were filed by the company, and some are commercial disputes rather than consumer cases; this page does not rank them.
- Wang v. Safe Ship Moving Services, LLC (S.D. Fla., No. 9:26-cv-80022): removed on January 9, 2026 from Palm Beach County state court (Case No. 502025CA012956, Ke Wang v. Safe Ship Moving Services LLC, et al.) by Vellar Holdings LLC and Safe Ship Moving Services, LLC. The Justia docket lists the cause as 49 U.S.C. § 11707 Liability of Common Carriers and a carrier, VER Vanlines, LLC, among the defendants. On April 10, 2026 the docket shows an order (Filing 15) stating: “Motion to Remand to State Court DE #8 is GRANTED. The Clerk of Court is directed to REMAND this case to the Circuit Court of the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit in and for Palm Beach County, Florida. The Clerk of Court shall CLOSE THIS CASE and DENY as MOOT all pending motions.” The remand order does not decide the underlying claims, which are back in state court; the federal docket was last retrieved by Justia on April 23, 2026 and the state-court case was not checked.
- Weinstein v. Vellar Holdings LLC (S.D. Fla., No. 9:25-cv-80733): complaint filed June 11, 2025; the docket shows a settlement filing and, on July 30, 2025, an order dismissing and closing the case. The settlement terms are not on the docket.
- Carpenter v. Vellar Holdings, LLC (M.D. Fla., No. 3:23-cv-00900): notice of removal August 1, 2023; stipulation of dismissal March 27, 2025; order dismissing the case April 15, 2025.
- Hemperley v. Safe Ship Moving Services (M.D. Fla., No. 8:23-cv-01954): a case against Safe Ship Moving Services and Platinum Moving and Storage that Safe Ship removed from state court; the court’s order says it arose from an interstate move between Florida and Texas. The docket shows a notice of settlement on October 5, 2023. The court’s January 8, 2024 order states: “Because Plaintiff failed to respond to the Court’s Order to Show Cause (Doc. 16), despite being given the opportunity to do so, this action will be dismissed without prejudice,” and orders the case closed.
- Vellar Holdings LLC v. USMPO LLC (S.D. Fla., No. 9:25-cv-80042): filed by Vellar Holdings LLC on January 10, 2025 against USMPO LLC and an individual; the docket shows activity through September 22, 2026, including an amended complaint or amended notice of removal on June 1, 2026. The docket text read does not state the claims.
- Vellar Holdings, LLC v. Observe.AI, Inc. (S.D. Fla., No. 9:26-cv-80031): a diversity contract case filed by Vellar Holdings LLC d/b/a Safe Ship Moving Services, LLC on January 13, 2026; notice of voluntary dismissal March 12, 2026 and order closing the case March 13, 2026.
Reported August 2026 suit by the company (docket not opened). A September 1, 2026 article on movingwatchdog.com says Vellar Holdings LLC, doing business as Safe Ship Moving Services, sued Bee Movers LLC in Palm Beach County, Florida, in August 2026, alleging that the carrier stopped completing deliveries and left more than 26 shipments unresolved; the article states that “The allegations have not yet been proven in court.” The case docket itself was not opened for this page, so these are the company’s reported allegations, not findings, and the case is not listed as a court case here.
Other dockets that mention similar names were not listed. The search ran on October 6, 2026 and is not a search of every state-court record.
Is Safe Ship Moving Services Legitimate?
FMCSA’s SAFER snapshot, opened October 7, 2026, lists Vellar Holdings LLC (DBA Safe Ship Moving Services) as an ACTIVE USDOT entity of type BROKER with MC-1139083 and the authority line “Broker of Property (Except Household Goods)”, and the company’s websites show the same numbers; a second ACTIVE broker record, USDOT 3570396 (SAFE SHIP MOVING SERVICES LLC, DBA RAPID RELOCATION, MC-1202480), carries the authority line “Broker of Household Goods” (see the FMCSA section). FMCSA states that a broker is a middleman that does not own trucks and is “not authorized to transport goods.” BBB shows (October 7, 2026) a B- rating, no accreditation, 826 complaints in the last 3 years and 6,846 customer reviews averaging 4.59 out of 5; Trustpilot shows 17,262 reviews averaging 4.8 (see the complaint-record section; the platforms are not combined). Court dockets show cases filed against and by the company with the outcomes listed above, and no FTC, attorney general or FMCSA enforcement action was found in the sources checked. Registration shows the firm is registered with FMCSA; it is not a finding about how any individual move was handled. Readers can verify registration, the carrier assigned to their shipment and bond or insurance filings through FMCSA’s Protect Your Move mover search and Licensing & Insurance pages before paying a deposit.
