Robinhood complaints: who to contact and how to escalate
Robinhood sells several products under one name, and each runs through a different legal entity and a different support route. The routes below are the ones Robinhood's own help center and security pages showed on October 12, 2026.
- Account, trading or Gold problems. The help center article “How to contact support” says to use chat (“Contact Robinhood Support 24/7”) from inside the app or website. It also says that when you contact support you can request a call back, “typically in less than 30 minutes,” that “Not all inquiries are eligible for phone support,” and that phone hours are “7 AM-9 PM ET (Monday–Friday only for investing features).”
- Robinhood Crypto, Spending account or Cash Card. The same article gives 888-275-8523 for these products only, and 1-800-469-7205 for California residents with Spending or Cash Card issues only. The Robinhood Gold Card is handled inside the Credit Card app (Menu, then Help Center). Wallet questions go to [email protected].
- The 650-761-7789 number. The article describes it as a “General Robinhood Support information line” that is “for general information only”; account-specific questions “must be addressed through in-app support.”
- If you cannot get into your account. The Security guarantee page says to email [email protected]. The same page says not to call phone numbers found through an internet search, because they “are potentially scams,” and to contact Robinhood from inside your account instead.
- Unauthorized activity. The Security guarantee page says that, if eligible, Robinhood will “reimburse direct losses due to unauthorized activity,” and lists conditions (keep credentials and devices secure, do not give anyone remote access, report unusual activity immediately). It also states that Robinhood will not reimburse when the customer's actions “facilitated or enabled” the activity, and that it does not restrict rights under Regulation E for eligible transactions.
- Cancel Gold. Per the help center: Account (person icon), then Menu, then Robinhood Gold, then Cancel membership. Gold features continue until the end of the current billing cycle, and you must cancel before the next billing date to avoid another charge. The page adds that Gold cannot be cancelled until a Robinhood Gold Credit Card account has been closed.
- Bank withdrawals and transfers. The help center's transfer-types table lists standard bank (ACH) withdrawals as “1 day on Robinhood, but may take longer per receiving bank’s policies.” The cancel-a-transfer article says that if you do not see the “Cancel transfer” option, the deposit or withdrawal “has been submitted to your bank account for processing and can’t be canceled.”
- Crypto transfers. The cryptocurrency transfers article says that verification to enable crypto transfers “may take up to 5 business days,” that each transfer is reviewed for security reasons, which “typically takes just a few minutes but on rare occasions it could take longer,” and that sent crypto transfers “can’t be canceled or reversed, even by Robinhood.”
- Restricted account. The help center's Account restrictions article lists reasons such as control-person declarations, bank transfer reversals, outdated account information, fraud inquiries and account levies, and says the steps depend on the restriction (for example covering negative balances or uploading documents).
If Robinhood does not resolve it. Outside complaint channels exist for the regulated parts of the business: the CFPB's complaint portal (consumerfinance.gov/complaint, phone (855) 411-2372 as shown on that page), FINRA's “file a complaint” page for brokerage accounts (finra.org/investors/have-problem/file-complaint), the SEC's tips and complaints portal (sec.gov/tcr), and your state securities regulator. Keep dates, screenshots of the in-app support chat and any reference numbers. This site does not take part in any of these processes and cannot reverse a transaction.
Regulator record: SEC, FINRA, state and New York orders
Each entry says what the agency's own document says, including whether the company admitted or denied the findings. An order records what a regulator found or the company agreed to; it is not a court judgment.
- SEC, December 17, 2020 (Robinhood Financial LLC). The SEC press release says Robinhood “agreed to pay $65 million to settle the charges” over statements about payment for order flow and best execution. The SEC says its order found that inferior trade prices “in aggregate deprived customers of $34.1 million even after taking into account the savings from not paying a commission.” The release says Robinhood settled “without admitting or denying the SEC's findings,” with a cease-and-desist order, a censure, a $65 million civil penalty and an independent consultant.
- FINRA, June 30, 2021 (Robinhood Financial LLC, AWC No. 2020066971201). The Letter of Acceptance, Waiver and Consent, accepted by FINRA on 06/30/2021, records a censure, a “$57 million fine,” “restitution of $12,598,445.16 plus interest” and a consultant undertaking. Robinhood accepted it “without admitting or denying the findings.” The AWC covers outages in 2018–2020, misinformation about options spread risk and erroneous margin-call notices, among other topics.
- New York DFS, August 2, 2022 (Robinhood Crypto, LLC). DFS announced a $30 million penalty for failures in anti-money-laundering and cybersecurity compliance under its virtual currency, money transmitter, transaction monitoring and cybersecurity regulations, plus an independent consultant.
- State securities regulators (NASAA), April 6, 2023 (Robinhood Financial LLC). NASAA says Robinhood Financial “will pay up to $10.2 million in penalties” following an investigation led by Alabama and six other states into outages in March 2020 and related customer-care failures. NASAA states that “Robinhood neither admits nor denies the findings” and that regulators “found no evidence of willful or fraudulent conduct.”
- Massachusetts Securities Division, consent order dated January 2024 (Robinhood Financial LLC). The order settles an administrative complaint about the app's engagement features and infrastructure and an investigation of cybersecurity controls at the time of the November 2021 data breach. It censures Robinhood and requires an administrative fine of $7,500,000. In it Robinhood “neither admits nor denies” the factual allegations about the app and infrastructure and the stated violations of law, and “admits the factual allegations” in the cybersecurity section (the November 2021 data breach).
- California Attorney General, September 4, 2024 (Robinhood Crypto, LLC). The California Department of Justice announced a $3.9 million settlement resolving its investigation under the California Commodities Law. The press release says the investigation concluded that customers were not able to withdraw their cryptocurrency from Robinhood accounts from 2018 to 2022 and that Robinhood did not fully disclose aspects of its trading and order handling arrangements. Besides the $3.9 million penalty, the release lists required conduct: permitting customers to withdraw cryptocurrency to their own wallets, making its written representations about trading and order handling materially comport with practice, making clear that it will custody customers’ cryptocurrency, updating its Customer Agreement to disclose possible delayed settlement with trading venues after an incident, and disclosing to the Attorney General any incident that delays settlement for longer than one week. The findings are the Department of Justice’s statements in its release; the release does not quote an admission or denial by Robinhood.
- SEC, January 13, 2025 (Robinhood Securities LLC and Robinhood Financial LLC). The SEC announced $45 million in combined civil penalties ($33.5 million for Robinhood Securities and $11.5 million for Robinhood Financial) covering suspicious activity reporting, identity theft protection, a 2021 cybersecurity vulnerability, off-channel communications, blue sheet reporting and Regulation SHO. The SEC says both firms “admitted certain findings” in the order and agreed to be censured.
- FINRA, March 7, 2025 (Robinhood Financial LLC and Robinhood Securities, LLC). FINRA says it “ordered Robinhood Financial to pay $3.75 million to its customers, and fined Robinhood Financial and Robinhood Securities $26 million.” The findings include inaccurate disclosures about “collaring” market orders, anti-money-laundering and customer identification program failures, and supervision of the clearing system during January 2021. The firms consented “without admitting or denying” the findings.
Open matters disclosed by the company. Robinhood's Form 10-Q for June 30, 2026 (filed July 30, 2026) says the New York Attorney General is investigating brokerage execution quality and the collaring of certain orders; the Massachusetts Securities Division is examining customer complaint supervision, the disruptions on the Blue Ocean ATS overnight session on August 4–5, 2024, and presidential election and sports event contracts; FINRA is investigating the same overnight-session disruptions; and the FDIC is investigating compliance with the Electronic Fund Transfer Act. The 10-K for 2025 adds that FINRA told the company in December 2025 that it had closed its investigation into best-execution compliance. The company says it is cooperating. These are investigations, not findings.
CFTC customer reparations proceedings. Separately from enforcement actions, customers can bring summary complaints against a CFTC-registered firm before the CFTC's Office of Proceedings. Two decisions naming Robinhood Derivatives, LLC were posted in September 2026. In White v. Robinhood Derivatives, LLC (CFTC Docket No. 26-R007), an Initial Decision dated September 14, 2026 concerned a sports event contract bought while a displayed game score was incorrect; the administrative judge wrote that the complainant could not prove by a preponderance of the evidence that Robinhood violated the Commodity Exchange Act or its regulations and that the complaint “is DISMISSED with prejudice.” In Dekhili v. Robinhood Derivatives, LLC (CFTC Docket No. 26-R042), an Order of Dismissal dated September 10, 2026 records a joint stipulation of dismissal “after amicably settling their dispute” and dismisses the complaint with prejudice. These are decisions in individual customer cases, not penalties or findings against the firm in an enforcement action.
About Robinhood: who operates it
Robinhood Markets, Inc. is a Delaware corporation whose Form 10-K for 2025 gives its principal executive offices as 85 Willow Rd, Menlo Park, CA 94025 and lists its Class A common stock on the Nasdaq under the symbol HOOD. The 10-K says “Robinhood was founded in 2013” (the company's own statement).
The help center footer lists the operating entities and says they are “affiliated entities and wholly owned subsidiaries of Robinhood Markets, Inc.” It separates them by product: brokerage services through Robinhood Financial LLC (a registered broker-dealer, member SIPC) with clearing by Robinhood Securities, LLC; portfolio management through Robinhood Asset Management, LLC; futures, cleared swaps and event contracts through Robinhood Derivatives, LLC; cryptocurrency through Robinhood Crypto, LLC; the spending account through Robinhood Money, LLC; the Gold Card through Robinhood Credit, Inc.; and Gold membership through Robinhood Gold, LLC. The footer states that these entities “are not banks.” The Cash Card is described as issued by Sutton Bank and the Gold Card as issued by Coastal Community Bank.
Which entity a complaint concerns matters: the regulator orders above name Robinhood Financial LLC, Robinhood Securities, LLC or Robinhood Crypto, LLC individually, and the footer says that products offered by Robinhood Financial “are not FDIC insured.”
Complaint counts and what this site has on file (as displayed on October 12, 2026)
These are different sources with different rules, and they are not added together.
- BBB (Robinhood, Menlo Park, CA). Not BBB accredited; rating A+. The complaints tab shows 2,334 total complaints in the last 3 years and 453 filed in the last 12 months. The reviews tab shows 1.11 out of 5 stars, “Average of 227 Customer Reviews.” BBB displays an alert about complaints on the profile and notes that a review of complaints was done in October 2025. BBB's raw page data gives a file-opened date of 2018-09-26, a business start of 2012-08-13 and an incorporation date of 2012-08-30. BBB says the profile covers headquarters and corporate-owned locations.
- CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (company name “ROBINHOOD MARKETS INC.”). 5,017 complaints received since August 3, 2018, the latest on October 3, 2026; 1,739 were received from October 12, 2025 to the date of the query. By CFPB product group across all years: Money transfer, virtual currency, or money service 2,434; Checking or savings account 1,631; Credit card 719; Credit reporting or other personal consumer reports 131; Debt collection 52. Company responses across all years: Closed with explanation 4,913; In progress 104. These are consumer submissions that the CFPB publishes; they are not findings.
- Trustpilot (robinhood.com). 3.9 rating from 14,472 reviews; shown as a claimed profile with the label “Paid Trustpilot subscription.” Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews.
- This site's archive. No complaint posted on usacomplaints.com was identified as being about Robinhood in the searches run on October 12, 2026 (offender field, title and text for “Robinhood”); the few archive posts containing the word use it as a street name or the “Robin Hood” idiom. This page therefore carries no complaint themes of its own.
The BBB, CFPB and Trustpilot figures measure different things (BBB complaints and reviews, CFPB complaints about financial products, and open-platform reviews) and cover different periods.
Litigation: order-flow settlement, the early 2021 restrictions cases and newer consumer suits
The summaries below follow Robinhood's Form 10-Q for June 30, 2026 (Note 15) and Form 10-K for 2025, filed with the SEC. Claims described are allegations unless a court or settlement says otherwise. Docket numbers are not stated in those filings and were not independently confirmed, so none is given.
- Best execution and payment for order flow. Beginning in December 2020, putative securities class actions were consolidated in the Northern District of California. The company reports that the court dismissed an amended complaint in February 2022, partly granted and partly denied a motion to dismiss a later complaint in October 2022, denied class certification without prejudice in October 2024, that Robinhood “agreed to a settlement in principle” in June 2025 and that “The settlement was approved by the court in June 2026.”
- Early 2021 trading restrictions. On January 28, 2021 Robinhood Securities temporarily restricted purchases of certain securities, including GameStop and AMC. Federal cases were centralized in the Southern District of Florida. According to the 10-K, the state-law claims were dismissed with prejudice in January 2022 and the Eleventh Circuit affirmed in August 2023; the antitrust claims were dismissed with prejudice in May 2022 and affirmed in June 2024; in the securities tranche the named plaintiffs' claims were dismissed on August 14, 2024, settlements were reached with some individual plaintiffs and arbitration was compelled for the remaining customer plaintiffs. The 10-Q says individual actions “remain pending in arbitrations.”
- Cash sweep. In October 2024 (Dey) and May 2025 (Deeney) putative class actions in the Northern District of California alleged that non-Gold brokerage customers were not paid a reasonable interest rate on swept cash. The cases were consolidated; the court granted in part and denied in part a motion to dismiss; the 10-Q says “Robinhood has reached a settlement in principle.” No final approval is reported.
- Event contracts. Beginning in June 2025 Robinhood Derivatives and Robinhood Markets were sued in several states under gambling-loss recovery statutes, by tribal plaintiffs, and by state governments (Wisconsin on April 23, 2026, with Robinhood Markets dismissed on July 8, 2026; Kentucky on June 17, 2026). Putative customer class actions were filed in April and June 2026 in the Northern District of California (consolidated, with a motion to compel arbitration) and in Massachusetts. Robinhood has itself sued state regulators in Nevada, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Michigan and Washington seeking injunctions, with mixed results described in the 10-Q. In Michigan the 10-Q says the preliminary injunction motion was denied in June 2026 and Robinhood Derivatives appealed to the Sixth Circuit. On September 9, 2026 the Michigan Gaming Control Board announced that Robinhood Derivatives, LLC “has agreed to stop offering new sports-related event contracts to Michigan customers” by the end of that Wednesday and to “close out any remaining customer positions by October 9, under a court-approved agreement.” The board’s release says the agreement “does not concede any party’s legal position,” preserves both sides’ rights and defenses, and remains in effect until the Sixth Circuit appeals are resolved.
- Privacy. On May 8, 2026 a putative class action in the Northern District of California alleged that Robinhood Markets allowed financial information such as account positions and account numbers to be transmitted to Google without consent. This is an allegation; no ruling is reported.
- Investor suits. The IPO securities class action (Golubowski) was dismissed in January 2024; the Ninth Circuit on August 29, 2025 affirmed in part and reversed in part, and the company filed a petition for certiorari in February 2026 that the 10-Q says remains pending. A related derivative action is stayed.
- Stubhub IPO suit. The 10-Q says that on June 29, 2026 Robinhood Financial was named as a “Selling Group Defendant,” together with Stubhub, its officers and directors, and underwriters, in a complaint in the Southern District of New York alleging that Stubhub’s IPO documents were materially misleading, and that Robinhood Financial is named only in the Section 12(a)(2) claim. This is an allegation; no ruling is reported.
The 10-Q states that accruals for contingencies totaled $89 million as of June 30, 2026.
Is Robinhood Legitimate?
Robinhood Markets, Inc. files annual and quarterly reports with the SEC (Form 10-K for 2025 filed February 18, 2026, with a Form 10-K/A filed February 20, 2026 “solely to address technical issues with formatting”; Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 filed July 30, 2026). The FINRA letter of acceptance, waiver and consent accepted on June 30, 2021 identifies Robinhood Financial LLC as a FINRA member firm with CRD No. 165998. Robinhood's footer says brokerage customers' securities are protected by SIPC and that the entities are not banks. A BrokerCheck or NMLS lookup for each entity can be run by the reader; those registries were not searched for this page.
The page also records the regulator orders and open investigations described above, the 2021 data security incident (Robinhood said an unauthorized party obtained a list of about five million email addresses and about two million full names, and that it believed no Social Security, bank account or debit card numbers were exposed), and the counts shown by BBB, the CFPB and Trustpilot. Those sources describe different things and are not combined into one measure.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I contact Robinhood support?
The help center says to use in-app or website chat (“Contact Robinhood Support 24/7”) and to request a call back there. Its phone hours are “7 AM-9 PM ET (Monday–Friday only for investing features)”, and not all inquiries are eligible for phone support. Separate lines are listed for Crypto, Spending and Cash Card (888-275-8523) and for California Spending or Cash Card issues (1-800-469-7205); 650-761-7789 is described as a general information line only.
Is a Robinhood phone number I found through a search engine safe to call?
Robinhood's Security guarantee page says: “Don't search for or call us with Robinhood phone numbers found through an internet browser because they are potentially scams. Always contact us within your account.” If you cannot access your account, the same page gives [email protected].
How do I cancel Robinhood Gold and what does it cost?
The help center gives these steps: Account (person icon), Menu, Robinhood Gold, Cancel membership. Gold features remain until the end of the billing cycle, and cancelling before the next billing date avoids another charge. The payment article says the individual investing account is charged “the $5 monthly or $50 annual subscription at the beginning of each billing cycle.” Gold cannot be cancelled until a Robinhood Gold Credit Card account has been closed.
What does Robinhood's security guarantee cover?
The page says that “If eligible, we’ll reimburse direct losses due to unauthorized activity,” provided the customer meets listed conditions such as keeping credentials and devices secure and reporting unusual activity immediately. It says Robinhood will not reimburse when the customer's actions “facilitated or enabled” the activity, or when a fraud investigation finds the customer conducted or supported the activity, and that Regulation E protections are not restricted.
Why might a Robinhood account be restricted?
Robinhood's Account restrictions article lists control-person declarations, bank transfer reversals, incorrect or outdated account information, fraud inquiries and account levies. It says the steps to remove a restriction depend on the specific restriction and commonly include covering negative balances and uploading requested documentation.
Where can I file a complaint about Robinhood outside the company?
The CFPB accepts complaints about financial products through consumerfinance.gov/complaint (phone (855) 411-2372 as shown on its page). FINRA has a complaint page for brokerage accounts (finra.org/investors/have-problem/file-complaint) and the SEC accepts tips and complaints at sec.gov/tcr. State securities regulators also handle complaints about brokerage firms.
What penalties has Robinhood agreed to with regulators?
Documents opened on October 12, 2026 record: SEC $65 million (December 2020, without admitting or denying); FINRA $57 million fine plus restitution of $12,598,445.16 plus interest (June 2021, without admitting or denying); New York DFS $30 million for Robinhood Crypto (August 2022); state securities regulators up to $10.2 million (April 2023, neither admits nor denies); Massachusetts $7.5 million (January 2024); California Attorney General $3.9 million for Robinhood Crypto (September 2024); SEC $45 million combined (January 2025, with certain findings admitted); and FINRA $26 million in fines plus $3.75 million restitution (March 2025, without admitting or denying). Each is described in the regulator record section.
What did Robinhood say about its November 2021 data security incident?
Robinhood's November 8, 2021 notice said an unauthorized party socially engineered a customer support employee by phone and obtained a list of email addresses for approximately five million people and full names for approximately two million others, with additional details for about 310 people. Its November 16, 2021 update said several thousand entries included phone numbers and that it continued to believe no Social Security, bank account or debit card numbers were exposed. The SEC's January 2025 order and Massachusetts' consent order both address the incident.
Are Robinhood brokerage accounts FDIC insured?
The help center footer says that investing products offered by Robinhood Financial “are not FDIC insured and involve risk, including possible loss of principal,” and that the entities are not banks. The Gold help pages describe SIPC protection of up to $500,000 (including $250,000 for claims for cash) in the event of broker-dealer failure, and say funds in the cash sweep program are deposited at program banks and eligible for FDIC insurance under stated conditions.
