Revolut US: account locks, closing, complaints and where to take a problem

This page was checked on 2026-10-20. It covers Revolut Technologies Inc., the entity named as the contracting party in the US Revolut Personal Terms. It does not cover Revolut entities that serve customers in other countries. The steps on this page use Revolut's own US pages and public complaint routes.

  • Revolut's own channels. The US Terms (version dated September 8, 2026, section 10) list: contact customer support in the Revolut app; call (844) 744-3512; email [email protected]; write to 107 Greenwich Street, Floor 20, New York, NY 10006. The Cardholder Agreement (effective as of April 30, 2026; section 30) says: 'Tell us AT ONCE using the Revolut mobile application, by email at [email protected] or by calling (844) 744-3512'. It states that if you tell Revolut within two Business Days after you learn of the loss or theft of your Card, you 'can lose no more than $50.00 if someone used your Card without your permission'; if you do not and Revolut can prove it could have stopped the use, 'you could lose as much as $500.00'; and if you do not report unauthorized transfers shown on a statement within sixty (60) days after the statement was made available, you 'may not get back any money you lost after the 60 days' where Revolut can prove it could have stopped the loss. It adds that the liability may be lower in some cases, for example for Mastercard cards.
  • Formal complaint. Section 17 says to contact Revolut through the app, or 'make your complaint using this form', or email [email protected], and to include your name, the phone number and email address associated with the account, when the problem arose and how you would like it put right.
    More detailShow less

It says Revolut will 'respond to you by email'. Revolut's Complaints Policy (opened 2026-10-20) says to 'make it clear that you are making a complaint' and that Revolut will acknowledge by email and 'issue our response within a couple of days, but this can take up to 15 business days'.

  • Blocked, suspended or closed accounts. Section 14 says Revolut might prevent payments 'if we're reasonably concerned about its security or that it might be used fraudulently or without your permission' and tells customers to 'Contact us via chat in the Revolut app' with questions.
    More detailShow less

Section 15 says Revolut may close or suspend an account immediately in listed circumstances, 'in our sole discretion' for several of them, and 'may also decide to close or suspend your account for other reasons'.

  • Getting money out after closure. Section 7 says you can close your account in the app or by emailing [email protected] and that, when you tell Revolut you want to close it, Revolut will 'give you the opportunity to withdraw the money we hold for you before your account is closed'.
    More detailShow less

That sentence applies to closures the customer asks for. For a Card cancelled by Revolut, Cardholder Agreement section 32 says that if the Card Account has a balance, you 'may transfer your Card Account balance to your external bank account using a limited-functionality (transfer out only) Revolut mobile application before we fully terminate your access'. Section 8 of the Terms also says Revolut will 'hold back enough money to cover any payments that you approved before your account was closed'. Section 8 says that if the account has closed you can 'contact customer services at [email protected] and ask them to send you the money we still hold for you, as long as required by applicable law', and that after closure you 'can only withdraw your money in US dollars'.

  • Closing the account or cancelling a card. Section 7 says cancellation fees from other agreements can apply, for example 'if you cancel your Metal subscription', and refers to the Cardholder Agreement and Fees pages. The Cardholder Agreement effective as of April 30, 2026 (linked from revolut.com/en-US/legal/cardholder-terms/) is quoted here. Its fee table shows Standard $0.00, Premium $9.99 a month and Metal $16.99 a month plans, out-of-network ATM withdrawals at 2 percent and a $4.95 cash reload fee, with inactivity $0.00. Section 22 says Revolut may 'refuse to issue a Card, revoke Card privileges or cancel your Card with or without cause or notice, other than as required by applicable law', and that if it does so 'through no fault of yours' you are entitled to a refund as provided in the agreement's Amendment and Cancellation section.
    More detailShow less

Section 33 says an inactive Card Account 'may be considered dormant and is subject to escheatment', after which you 'will then need to apply to the state for return of your funds'.

  • Outside routes. The CFPB accepts complaints about financial products and services at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. Section 9 of the Terms says funds are held by Lead Bank and 'insured by the FDIC up to applicable limits in the event of the bank's failure, if specific deposit insurance requirements are met', with a link to FDIC prepaid-card guidance.
  • Errors on the account. Cardholder Agreement section 29 says to contact Revolut 'using the Revolut mobile application or call (844) 744-3512', and that 'We must hear from you no later than sixty (60) days after the date we sent you the FIRST statement on which the problem or error appeared'. It says Revolut will determine whether an error occurred within ten (10) Business Days, may take up to forty-five (45) days if it provisionally credits the account within ten Business Days, and up to ninety (90) days for new Card Accounts, point-of-sale transactions or foreign-initiated transactions.
  • Arbitration and opt-out. The Cardholder Agreement (section 36) states that it requires disputes to be resolved by binding arbitration, except claims eligible for small claims court, administered by National Arbitration and Mediation (NAM), and contains a class action waiver.
    More detailShow less

It says you may reject the arbitration provision by a written notice to Revolut Technologies Inc., Attn: Arbitration Opt Out, 107 Greenwich Street, Floor 20, New York, NY 10006, mailed within thirty (30) days of applying to the program. Before arbitration or small claims court it requires a written notice to Lead Bank (Attn: Legal Department, 1801 Main Street, Kansas City, MO 64108) or to Revolut Technologies Inc., Attn: Legal Department, at the Greenwich Street address. Read the agreement itself for the full terms.
