Perplexity is sold by Perplexity AI, Inc., a San Francisco company that publishes its Terms of Service, Privacy Notice, mailing address and support email. It is not BBB accredited; its BBB and Trustpilot figures are in the complaint-record section. Most of the court cases against it are copyright and commercial disputes brought by publishers and by Amazon; a proposed class action by two paying users over cuts to plan features, in which Perplexity seeks arbitration, is pending.

Before paying, note that refunds outside the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil are limited to 24 hours after purchase for monthly plans and 72 hours for annual plans, and that a subscription keeps renewing until you cancel it on the platform where you bought it. Keep the receipt email and the exact purchase time.

Complaint record: BBB and Trustpilot

BBB. The BBB profile for Perplexity A.I. in San Francisco shows the business as not BBB accredited, with a business start date of July 8, 2022, and a BBB Rating of F. The reasons BBB gives for the rating are the 63 complaints filed against the business and its failure to respond to them. BBB lists 63 complaints in the last 3 years, 52 of them in the last 12 months, and a customer-review average of 1 out of 5 stars from 13 reviews.

BBB advertising alert. The profile carries one BBB alert. It challenged the "$450 free computer credits" offer on Perplexity's Max page. In its response posted on the profile, Perplexity says the 35,000 Computer Credits bonus is a one-time bonus for an account's first Max subscription, that refunds are available only in limited situations, such as an upgrade to Max made by mistake and reported within 24 hours, and that purchased credits are generally non-refundable and used credits never are.

Trustpilot. The unclaimed Trustpilot profile for perplexity.ai shows a TrustScore of 1.4 from 845 reviews, 610 of them in the last 12 months, and 83% of reviews are 1-star.

BBB and Trustpilot figures come from separate platforms and are not added together.

Perplexity AI complaints: cancel, refund and where to complain

Contact. Perplexity handles support in writing: in the app or on the website open Help > Contact Support, or email [email protected]. The Terms give a mailing address, 2261 Market Street, Ste. 14441, San Francisco, CA 94114, and no support phone number. Pro, Education Pro and Max subscribers also get priority support through Discord, according to the Help Center.

Cancel. Cancel on the platform where you bought the plan. On the website, go to Settings, find Subscription under Perplexity Pro, click Manage Subscription and choose Cancel subscription. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store: the cancel option does not appear in Perplexity's own settings for those plans.

More detailShow less

Deleting your Perplexity account does not cancel the subscription. Under section 2.3 of the Terms, subscriptions renew automatically at the then-current rate, and you must cancel before the renewal date, in account settings or by emailing [email protected]. After cancelling you keep paid access until the end of the period already paid for, then the account returns to the free version.

Refunds. Section 2.4 of the Terms says that, except as stated in the Terms or in country-specific billing pages, subscription payments "are nonrefundable and there are no credits for partially used periods." The Help Center Refunds article sets these windows:

  • EU, UK or Turkey: 14 days from purchase, for monthly and annual plans; say in the request that you are applying from one of these places.
  • South Korea or Brazil: 7 days from purchase, for monthly and annual plans.
  • Everyone else: monthly plans, up to 24 hours after purchase, with a reason for the request; annual plans, a full refund within 72 hours of the original purchase date and time, with no exceptions after that.
  • Perplexity says it cannot process a second refund request after a first one has been granted, and that a refund for a forgotten cancellation may be issued if the request meets these rules.

How to ask for a refund.

  • Website purchase: go to perplexity.ai/pro, select Manage Subscription and choose Cancel Plan; the refund option appears with the cancellation confirmation. If it does not, use Help > Contact Support.
  • Apple App Store: request the refund from Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com, signed in with the Apple ID used for the purchase.
  • Google Play: contact Perplexity through Help > Contact Support and include your Google Play email address.
  • Galaxy Store: in the Galaxy Store app open Menu, My page, Purchase history, and tap Refund or Report problem (usually available for about 48 hours after purchase); if there is no refund option, cancel under Subscriptions and ask Samsung Support at samsung.com/support.
  • Send one request only: the company says duplicate tickets can push a request to the back of the queue, and that it judges eligibility by the date the request was submitted, even if the reply comes later.

Common billing traps. A free trial or promotional plan needs a valid card and renews at the standard rate unless you cancel before it ends. Updating your payment card through Google Play or the Apple App Store creates a new, separate subscription that is charged as well; the Help Center says to change payment details only on the Perplexity website.

More detailShow less

If you are charged after cancelling, check under Settings, Manage subscription that the cancellation went through, then contact support with the charge date and amount.

If the company does not resolve it.

  • Your card issuer: for a credit card charge, the Fair Credit Billing Act lets you dispute a billing error in writing; the card issuer must receive your letter within 60 days after it sent the first statement showing the charge, at the address it gives for billing errors. Debit card and app store purchases follow the bank's or store's own dispute rules.
  • FTC: report the problem at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. The FTC shares reports with law enforcement agencies but does not resolve individual complaints.
  • California Attorney General: Perplexity is based in California, and the Attorney General's office takes complaints through its Complaint Against Business form at oag.ca.gov/consumers. The office uses complaints to decide whether to investigate but cannot give individual legal advice or help. You can also complain to your own state attorney general.
  • BBB: file a complaint on the BBB profile for Perplexity A.I.
  • Arbitration and small claims: the Terms require individual arbitration administered by JAMS, with a class action waiver (sections 9 and 9.7), but section 9.4 lets either side bring an individual claim in small claims court. You can opt out of arbitration by written notice to [email protected] or the mailing address within 30 days of first registering or agreeing to the Terms (section 9.6).

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel a Perplexity subscription?

On the website, open Settings, then Subscription, Manage Subscription and Cancel subscription; plans bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play are cancelled in that store. Do it before the renewal date, because deleting your account does not cancel the plan.

How long do I have to ask for a Perplexity refund?

14 days in the EU, UK or Turkey and 7 days in South Korea or Brazil; everywhere else, 24 hours for a monthly plan and 72 hours for an annual plan, with no exceptions after that. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Why was I charged after a Perplexity free trial?

Trial and promotional plans require a valid credit or debit card, and the Help Center says that unless you cancel before the trial ends, the subscription renews at the standard rate for the plan you chose, monthly or annual. If the first charge was for an annual plan, the refund window outside the EU, UK, Turkey, South Korea and Brazil is 72 hours from that charge; for a monthly plan it is 24 hours.

What if I am still charged after cancelling Perplexity?

Check under Settings, Manage subscription that the cancellation went through, and check the App Store or Google Play subscription list too, since updating a card there creates a second subscription. Then send Help > Contact Support the charge date and amount; if it is not fixed, a credit card holder can dispute the charge with the card issuer (see the escalation steps on this page).

How do I contact Perplexity support?

Use Help > Contact Support in the app or on the website, or email [email protected]; there is no support phone number. Pro, Education Pro and Max subscribers also get priority support through Discord.

What does BBB show for Perplexity?

BBB lists Perplexity A.I. as not accredited, with a BBB Rating of F that it bases on 63 complaints and the company's failure to respond to them, and a review average of 1 out of 5 from 13 reviews. The profile also carries a BBB alert about a Max credits offer.

What does Trustpilot show for Perplexity?

The unclaimed Trustpilot profile for perplexity.ai shows a TrustScore of 1.4 from 845 reviews, 610 of them in the last 12 months, with 83% of reviews at 1 star.

Is Perplexity being sued?

Several federal lawsuits against Perplexity AI, Inc. are pending: Amazon's suit over the Comet browser's shopping assistant (N.D. Cal.), where the Ninth Circuit vacated Amazon's preliminary injunction in August 2026; copyright suits by Dow Jones and the New York Post, The New York Times and CNN (S.D.N.Y.); and Gagleard et al. v. Perplexity AI, Inc. (N.D. Cal.), a proposed class action by paying users over cuts to plan features, where Perplexity has asked the court to send the claims to arbitration. Another proposed class action, Noel v. Perplexity AI, Inc. et al., over data shared with Meta and Google, was voluntarily dismissed in May 2026. None of the pending cases has reached a final judgment, and the claims are allegations.

Does the Perplexity Terms of Service require arbitration?

Section 9 of the Terms sends most disputes to individual arbitration by JAMS, with a class action waiver, while small claims court stays open for individual claims. You can opt out by written notice to [email protected] or the mailing address "within 30 days of your first registering to use the Services or agreeing to these Terms" (section 9.6).

Where can I file a complaint about Perplexity besides the company?

For a credit card charge, start with a written billing-error dispute to your card issuer within 60 days of the statement. You can also report to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, the California Attorney General at oag.ca.gov/consumers, your own state attorney general and BBB; details are in the escalation steps on this page.

What can I do if I cannot log in to Perplexity?

The Perplexity Help Center says to check your spam folder for the login email, use the most recent login link, open it on the same device you use Perplexity on, make sure your email provider is not blocking Perplexity's links and turn off any email scanning tools. On the mobile app it also lists turning off a VPN. It recommends signing in with a Google or Apple account. If issues persist, use the Contact support button in the top navigation bar of the Help Center; Help > Contact Support works only when you are signed in.

What is Perplexity Computer and how do its credits work?

Perplexity describes Computer as an independent digital worker that completes tasks and workflows. Computer tasks use credits; ordinary Ask searches do not. Max subscribers receive 10,000 credits monthly, and consumer Pro plans include no monthly credits. As a limited-time, one-time bonus that expires in 30 days, paid Max subscribers get 35,000 credits and paid Pro subscribers get 4,000. If credits run out, active tasks pause and resume when credits are available.
