Outdoorsy is the RV and campsite rental marketplace run by Outdoorsy, Inc. of Austin, Texas. Its Terms of Service (last revised October 1, 2026) say Outdoorsy is not a party to the bookings between Hosts and Guests; the booking terms depend on the Host's listing and the Host's cancellation policy.

  • Cancel a booking. The Guest Help Center says: "Once your booking is confirmed, you can cancel within 24 hours for a full refund if your trip is more than 7 days away, or within 1 hour if your trip is within 7 days or less." It adds that there is no grace period for same-day bookings. After that, the Host's policy applies: the article says Outdoorsy has three cancellation policies (Flexible, Moderate, Strict) that Hosts choose from, shown on the listing page and the trip page. For bookings created on or after February 2, 2026 the article describes updated policies and says the Legacy Outdoorsy Cancellation Policies govern bookings created before that date.
  • What the article lists as refundable. For all three policies the article lists the Service Fee under "What's Not Refunded", lists Trip Protection (travel insurance) as refundable only if cancelled within 10 days of purchase or if the Host cancels, and says protection packages, damage protection, add-ons, prep fees and the security deposit waiver (and their taxes) are always 100% refundable. Rental-amount refunds differ by policy and timing, for example Flexible: full rental amount more than 30 days before the start date, 50% at 30 days or fewer; Moderate: full rental amount more than 30 days before, 50% between 30 and 8 days before, and the Rental Amount not refunded at 7 days or fewer; Strict: full rental amount more than 30 days before, none at 30 days or fewer.
    More detailShow less

The article says Trip Protection coverage "is only available for purchase by U.S. residents". Read the table for your booking date on the Help Center page.

  • If the Host cancels. The Terms say: "If a Host cancels a confirmed Booking, Outdoorsy will refund to the Guest the Fees for such Booking within a commercially reasonable time", and tell Guests who have not received a cancellation email to contact support by ticket.
  • Payment timing and deposit. The Help Center says a trip 30 days or less away is charged in full at booking; for a trip more than 30 days away a Guest can pay in full or pay a reservation deposit (50% of the trip cost plus 100% of the service fee and any Trip Protection), with the balance charged 30 days before the trip. The Terms say Hosts may require a security deposit and that Outdoorsy, as the payment agent of the Host, obtains a pre-authorization of the Guest's card before the Key Exchange. The Help Center says that in the reservation-deposit option the security-deposit authorization hold is processed 2 days before the trip start, and that for PayPal payments "the option to split your payments into 2, paying only a deposit upon booking, is unavailable".
    More detailShow less

On Hosts' deposit claims the Terms say Outdoorsy "is not responsible for administering or accepting any claims by Hosts related to security deposits, and disclaims any and all liability in this regard". The Terms also say "All Outdoorsy-granted credit(s) expire one (1) year from issuance and are not redeemable for cash".

  • Dispute with a Host or a charge. The Help Center article "I had a negative experience with my booking" says to first contact the Host, and if no solution is reached, "please contact Customer Support and we'll help you file a dispute", after which, the company says, its Resolutions Team will "listen to both parties and come up with an equitable resolution".
  • Damage and claims. The Help Center article on returned damage (written for Hosts) says damage can be collected from the security deposit or, if the Guest chose a security deposit waiver, from the Guest's payment method, and that formal insurance claims go through the booking's Protection Package tab. It says claims are filed from the booking's Protection Package tab ("File a Claim"), must be submitted within 48 hours after the booking ends, and need pre- and post-trip photos taken within the app. For total-loss questions it gives [email protected] for the Claims Team; for other collection issues it gives chat or [email protected]. On total loss it says Outdoorsy "owes up to the actual cash value of your vehicle, with a maximum of $300,000" and that it "does not insure vehicles with a salvage title".
  • Contact. The Help Center says support is available 24/7 by chat, at [email protected] or at +1 877-723-7232.
  • Arbitration. The Terms incorporate a Dispute Resolution / Arbitration Agreement and say, in capitals, that unless you opt out within 30 days, disputes with Outdoorsy are resolved by binding arbitration and class actions are waived, with limited exceptions. The Terms set Texas law (with the Federal Arbitration Act for the arbitration agreement). Read that section before bringing a claim.
  • Outside routes. A card dispute through your card issuer, a complaint to your state attorney general (for example the Texas Attorney General's online consumer complaint form, which says complaints are open to the public under Texas law) and the BBB complaint process are separate from Outdoorsy's own channel.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel an Outdoorsy booking and get a refund?

The Guest Help Center says a confirmed booking can be cancelled for a full refund within 24 hours if the trip is more than 7 days away, or within 1 hour if the trip is 7 days or less away. After that the Host's Flexible, Moderate or Strict policy applies, and the article lists the Service Fee as not refunded under each policy. Check the policy shown on your listing and trip page.

What happens if the Host cancels my Outdoorsy booking?

The Terms say that if a Host cancels a confirmed Booking, Outdoorsy will refund the Guest the Fees for the Booking within a commercially reasonable time. If you receive no email or other message from Outdoorsy about the cancellation, the Terms tell Guests to contact the support team by support ticket.

How do I contact Outdoorsy customer support?

The Help Center says support is available 24/7 through the Contact us chat on outdoorsy.com, by email at [email protected], or by phone at +1 877-723-7232 (toll-free in the U.S. and Canada).

What can I do if I have a dispute with a Host?

How does the Outdoorsy security deposit work?

The Terms say Hosts may require a security deposit and that Outdoorsy, as the Host's payment agent, obtains a pre-authorization of the Guest's card before the Key Exchange; deposits are applied first to damage and may cover other fees such as late, cleaning or dumping fees. The Help Center describes an optional Security Deposit Waiver as a smaller fee at checkout instead of a large hold, with deductible coverage stated as up to $1,500 for non-Class A RVs and up to $4,000 for Class A RVs. On Hosts' deposit claims the Terms say Outdoorsy "is not responsible for administering or accepting any claims by Hosts related to security deposits".

The Terms of Service (last revised October 1, 2026) say that, unless the customer opts out within 30 days, disputes with Outdoorsy with limited exceptions are resolved by binding and final arbitration and class actions are waived. Texas law governs the Terms, with the Federal Arbitration Act applying to the arbitration agreement. In Bai v. Outdoorsy (2021) a federal court granted Outdoorsy's motion to compel arbitration under the then-current terms.

Cal., stayed pending arbitration in 2022) and Polimeda (D.N.J., dismissed without prejudice in 2025), and MacDonald (C.D. Cal., Ninth Circuit appeal docketed October 2026).
