BBB and Trustpilot, as displayed on 2026-10-20

These figures are shown as displayed on 2026-10-20 and are not combined with each other or with anything on this site. No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.

  • BBB. The listing "Notion Labs Inc" in San Francisco (category "Lab") is not BBB Accredited and shows a BBB Rating of F. BBB lists as reasons: "Failure to respond to 2 complaint(s) filed against business" and "18 complaint(s) filed against business". The complaints tab shows 18 complaints in the last 3 years and 13 in the last 12 months; the reviews tab shows 0 reviews. BBB's page data shows a file opened on 2023-10-20. BBB states that it does not verify information provided by third parties. One complaint published on the tab (dated 06/25/2026, type Product Issues) says the writer never authorized a payment for a business plan; the tab shows the status "Answered" with a business response dated 06/29/2026. The company replied that its records show the concern was resolved; the consumer's answer, dated the same day, says they reject the response because they never authorized the transition to a business account. This is one complainant's account and the company's reply.
  • Trustpilot. The claimed profile for notion.so ("Claimed profile - Jul 2024") shows 2.2 from 439 reviews, with 113 reviews in the last 12 months. The star split shown is 32 percent 5-star, 11 percent 4-star, 5 percent 3-star, 8 percent 2-star and 44 percent 1-star. Trustpilot notes that the company has no recent history of asking for reviews, that reviews may therefore not be representative, and that it hasn't replied to negative reviews. Trustpilot's AI-generated summary of 88 recent reviews says reviewers "frequently complained about expensive subscription plans, hidden pricing limitations, and unexpected charges for automatic renewals"; it is Trustpilot's own text. A separate Trustpilot page for notion.com shows an unclaimed profile with 0 reviews.

CFPB is not used here because Notion is not a financial company.

Notion complaints: cancel, refund, billing and where to complain

This page was checked on 2026-10-20 against Notion's own Help Center, its Personal Use Terms of Service and the public profiles named on this page. Notion's published rules differ by plan type: organizations are governed by a Master Subscription Agreement (which this page did not read), and personal use by the Personal Use Terms of Service.

  • Cancel a paid plan. The Help Center says the subscription, annual or monthly, "will automatically renew until you cancel it" and gives the path: Settings in the left sidebar on a desktop computer, then Billing, then Change plan.
    More detailShow less

After cancelling, the Help Center says you keep the paid features until the end of the billing cycle, and that a downgrade takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. The Personal Use Terms add that you may cancel through your online account management page or by contacting [email protected]. The Help Center gives the cancellation path for a desktop computer; for mobile it describes only an upgrade from Free to Plus for a one-member workspace.

  • Subscriptions bought on iPhone or Android. The Help Center says subscriptions bought on mobile are managed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, and that for cancellations and refunds of an App Store purchase you contact Apple directly.
  • Refunds, two published texts. The Help Center ("How do refunds work?") says that if you believe you made a mistake signing up online or in-app you can contact Notion in the app or by email, and that Notion will refund the full amount (not pro-rated) if you downgrade within three days of signing up for monthly billing, or within 30 days of signing up for annual billing. It also says that if members were added by accident, Notion will refund the prorated charge if you write within three days of the invoice date and have removed those members. The Personal Use Terms of Service, section 9 (Refunds), say: "Payment obligations are non-cancelable, and fees paid are non-refundable and there are no credits for partially used Subscription periods."
    More detailShow less

Both texts are live; this page does not decide which applies to a given purchase. Keep the date of purchase and write to Notion promptly.

  • Trials. The Help Center says the Business Plan trial lasts 30 days, and that if you entered payment information to begin the trial, Notion will auto-renew the Business Plan at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends (path given: Settings, then Explore plans).
  • Adding members is billable. The Help Center says adding members to a paid workspace is a billable action, charged for the portion of the interval they are in the workspace; removing members lowers the bill at the next billing cycle and is not prorated mid-cycle. Invite people as guests to specific pages if you do not want to add a paid seat.
  • Failed payments. The Help Center says payments may be retried up to 8 times within the next month, after which the workspace is restricted to limited access for a period before being downgraded to the Free plan. Payments are processed by Stripe.
  • Contact. The Help Center and the Terms give [email protected]. If the company does not resolve a charge, you can file a BBB complaint (see the complaint record), dispute the charge with your card issuer, or contact your state attorney general's consumer protection office.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel a paid Notion plan?

The Notion Help Center (read 2026-10-20) says to go to Settings in the left sidebar on a desktop computer, then Billing, then Change plan. It says you keep the paid features until the end of your billing cycle and that the subscription renews automatically until cancelled. The Personal Use Terms also allow cancelling through the online account management page or by contacting [email protected]. If you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, the Help Center says to manage that subscription there.

Does Notion give refunds?

Notion publishes two texts. The Help Center says it will refund the full amount (not pro-rated) if you downgrade within three days of signing up for monthly billing or within 30 days of signing up for annual billing, and that it will refund the prorated charge for accidentally added members if you write within three days of the invoice date. The Personal Use Terms of Service, section 9, say fees paid are non-refundable and there are no credits for partially used subscription periods. Contact [email protected] or use the in-app chat as soon as possible and keep your invoice.

Why was I charged after a Notion trial?

The Notion Help Center says that if you entered payment information to begin the 30-day Business Plan trial, Notion auto-renews the Business Plan at the end of the trial, and that you must cancel before the trial ends to avoid that (Settings, then Explore plans). If you did not enter payment information, it says you will be asked to confirm the upgrade at the end of the trial.

Why did my Notion bill go up when I invited someone?

The Help Center says adding a member to a paid workspace is a billable action and is charged for the part of the billing interval the person is in the workspace, while guests added to specific pages do not take a paid seat if the plan's guest limit is not reached. It also says that removing members lowers the bill at the next billing cycle without mid-cycle credit, and that Notion will refund the prorated charge for accidentally added members if you write within three days of the invoice date.

What does the BBB show for Notion?

As displayed on 2026-10-20, the BBB listing "Notion Labs Inc" in San Francisco is not BBB Accredited and shows a rating of F. BBB lists 18 complaints in the last 3 years, 13 of them in the last 12 months, "Failure to respond to 2 complaint(s)" as a reason for the rating, and 0 customer reviews. BBB states that it does not verify information provided by third parties.

What does Trustpilot show for Notion?

Trustpilot lists the claimed notion.so profile (claimed July 2024) at 2.2 from 439 reviews on 2026-10-20: 113 were left in the previous 12 months, 44 percent are 1-star and 32 percent are 5-star. The page carries Trustpilot's own caveat that Notion has not asked customers for reviews recently, so the set may not be representative, and says negative reviews have not been replied to.

Which company operates Notion?

The Personal Use Terms of Service say the Services are operated by Notion Labs, Inc., 685 Market St., San Francisco, CA 94105, contact [email protected]. Organizations are governed by a separate Master Subscription Agreement according to the Help Center.

Has Notion been sued?

Del., filed March 11, 2025) and UBQS-IP, LLC v. Notion Labs, Inc. (S.D.N.Y., filed April 8, 2026). In each, the docket shows a notice of voluntary dismissal; the Delaware docket names the plaintiff as filer, and the New York docket text does not name the filer. The table of contents of the Personal Use Terms lists a section 24 titled "Arbitration and Class Action Waiver"; read the section itself for what it covers.

You can also file a BBB complaint on the Notion Labs Inc listing, dispute the charge with your card issuer, or contact your state attorney general's consumer protection office.
