NCH Software complaints: refunds, support, uninstalling and where else to complain

This page was checked on 2026-10-22 against the company's own pages, BBB and Trustpilot. It lists the routes the company publishes and the outside routes open to a U.S. buyer.

• Refund. The company's refund page says: "NCH Software offers a no-nonsense 30-day money back policy. If you are unhappy with your software for any reason within 30 days from purchase, please use the form below to contact support to request a refund." The form asks for the email used for purchase, the software name, where it was bought (NCH Software website, retail store or other), the purchase date and the reason. The page also says: "Emails correctly submitted will be answered within 24 hours, longer over weekends." Separately, the licence terms on the Legal Terms page say that a buyer who does not agree to them may "return it to the place of purchase within 14 days to receive a full refund", and they state: "Your entire remedy against us for all claims is limited to receiving a full refund for the amount you paid for the software." The 14-day and 30-day periods are quoted as the company publishes them; we do not reconcile them.
• Subscriptions and cancelling. The VideoPad purchase page says a subscription "continues until you cancel" and that "A copy of the cancel link will be on the email you receive."
• Checkout details observed on 2026-10-22. On the VideoPad purchase page the support option "Silver Support Service" ($33, email-only support for 1 month) was preselected, with "No Personal Technical Support Required" ($0.00) and a Platinum option ($99) as alternatives; the support terms page says packages purchased in advance are nonrefundable. The same page states: "While prices are quoted in US dollars, all transactions are banked in Australian dollars." Check the support selection and the total before paying.
• Technical support packages are treated separately. The support terms page says: "Support service packages purchased in advance are nonrefundable, even if you do not use it." It adds that a package "is refundable if the purchase was a genuine mistake and you contact us immediately after purchase" and when you refund the entire purchase because of a faulty product. The Legal Terms page says NCH Software Pty Ltd "does not provide technical support for any of its products" and that a company named AltoEdge Pty Ltd is engaged to help if you buy a support plan.
• Billing and licence questions. The contact page sends billing discrepancies on a recent online purchase and licence problems to forms under 'Accounts and Billing' and 'Registration and Licensing Support'. Its phone line is described as a "Platinum Support Line (paid customers only)": 720-627-7145 for the USA, Canada and rest of Americas, and "You must have your password ready to be connected to support." Non-platinum customers are told to use the email forms.
• Uninstalling. The company's uninstall page gives Windows, Mac, Android and iOS steps and a separate section for bundled toolbars ("NCH Toolbar" or the "Ask.com Toolbar"). Several archive posts below describe trouble removing trial programs, so keep the product name and version you installed when you contact the company.
• Disputes and card chargebacks. Keep the order confirmation, the date and the refund-form submission. If the company does not answer, you can file a complaint with BBB (the profile below shows complaints and company responses), the U.S. Federal Trade Commission at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, or your state attorney general's consumer protection office. Contact your card issuer within the issuer's dispute window if a charge was not authorised.
• Legal terms to know before disputing. The company's Legal Terms say that for U.S. residents the agreement is governed by the laws and courts of Colorado and contains an arbitration agreement and class action waiver for U.S. customers, with a written Notice of Dispute sent by certified mail to Legal Department, NCH Software, Inc., 6120 Greenwood Plaza Blvd, Ste 120, Greenwood Village CO 80111. The same text says the arbitration clause "does not preclude you from bringing issues to the attention of U.S. federal, state, or local agencies."

BBB page data gives accreditation 2016-04-13, file opened 2009-06-11 and business started and incorporated 2009-03-12. The complaints tab says "26 complaints in the last 3 years. 7 complaints in the last 12 months." The four most recent complaints displayed were each tagged 'Product Issues' and carried the status Answered or Resolved; BBB notes that the text displayed may not represent all complaints filed. The reviews tab shows an average of 3.89/5 from 28 customer reviews. BBB lists the alternate name NCH Software PTY LTD.

Trustpilot. The profile for www.nchsoftware.com is claimed (since September 2014) and shows 1,601 reviews with a 4.3 score, 181 reviews in the last 12 months, and a star split of 64 percent 5-star and 20 percent 1-star. Trustpilot adds that the company has no recent history of asking for reviews, so the reviews may not be representative, and that the company replied to 12 percent of negative reviews. Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews.

They concern: a free trial that, in the writers' accounts, expired and had to be paid for or extended (2 posts), failure to reactivate or transfer a licence (1), trouble finding contact details or reaching support (5, with some posts counted in more than one group) and unwanted pop-ups or difficulty removing trial programs (2). Court and regulator records

Justia's docket search by party name, opened on 2026-10-22, lists four federal dockets naming NCH Software as a party: patent-infringement cases filed in 2018 (D. Del.), 2022 (W.D. Tex.) and 2025 (D. Colo.), and a 2016 contract case in the District of Colorado. In the 2025 case, Gamehancement LLC v. NCH Software Inc., the plaintiff filed a notice of voluntary dismissal and, on December 17, 2025, the court's order recorded that the claims were dismissed without prejudice and that the defendant had not answered or otherwise appeared; no finding of infringement is shown. The other three dockets were not opened, so their outcomes are not stated here, and the allegations in patent complaints are not findings. We did not obtain CourtListener results (rate-limited), and we did not search FTC, state attorney general or Australian regulator databases, so the absence of a regulator action here is not a finding that none exists. The company's Legal Terms describe an arbitration agreement and class action waiver for U.S. customers.

Who is NCH Software and what does it sell?

The company's About Us page says: "Since 1993 our software development team has released more than 80 easy-to-use software applications for Windows, Mac and mobile devices," in audio, video, business, dictation and utility categories, and names WavePad Sound Editor as its flagship product. These are the company's own statements.

Which legal entity? The Legal Terms page says the site is operated by NCH Software Pty Ltd and that all programs are developed and published by it. The same page says that if you live in the United States "your relationship is with NCH Software, Inc, a United States company," governed by Colorado law, while customers elsewhere contract with "NCH Software Pty Ltd, an Australian company" under Australian Capital Territory law. The U.S. mailing address on the contact page is NCH Software, Inc., 6120 Greenwood Plaza Blvd, Greenwood Village, CO 80111. We did not open an Australian company-registry record on 2026-10-22, so the Australian registration details are not stated here.

Free and paid versions. The VideoPad page says "A free video editor version is available for non-commercial use only. If you will be using it at home you can download the free version here. No signup required." The VideoPad purchase page displayed on 2026-10-22 a Master's Edition at a discounted $79.99 (normal price shown $159), a Home Edition at $49.99 (normal price shown $99) and a Master's Edition quarterly plan "billed $13.32 quarterly". We did not go through checkout. The purchase page prints, before payment: "If you purchase a subscription, it continues until you cancel. You can cancel a subscription any time. A copy of the cancel link will be on the email you receive." It adds that subscriptions are debited quarterly (3 months) or annually (12 months) based on the monthly rate.

Support plans. The company's support terms page lists a Platinum plan ("Expires one year after the date of purchase") and a Silver plan ("Expires one month after the date of purchase"), with phone and chat included in Platinum.
