Nature Hills Nursery complaints, refunds and guarantee claims: what the company's current policies say (checked October 12, 2026)

The Nature Hills Nursery website policy pages, BBB profile and Trustpilot profile were opened on October 12, 2026. No approved complaints in this site's archive were identified as being about Nature Hills Nursery (see the complaint record below). What follows is taken from the company's own pages, quoted or closely paraphrased, and is not a prediction of how any claim will be decided.

How the live-plant guarantee works. The Growing & Glowing Guarantee page says every eligible plant 'is covered by our 45-day Growing & Glowing Guarantee: if it arrives damaged or dead, or fails to thrive because of a quality issue, you choose a free replacement with free shipping, store credit that never expires, or a full refund, and orders delivered after October 15 stay covered through May 1.' The same page says the claim must be made by sending 'photos and an email within 7 days of noticing the problem, while the plant is still covered', to [email protected], and that there is 'No restocking or processing fee for any option'.

Returns. The Refund policy says: 'we cannot accept returns, exchanges, or package refusals for any plants, trees, or shrubs.' It adds that customers should accept the package, contact [email protected] within 7 days of noticing the issue, and provide photos. For non-living items such as fertilizers, tools and staking kits, the Refund policy says 'All sales ... are final, and we don't accept returns', with replacement or refund offered if an item arrives damaged, defective or wrong, reported within 7 days of delivery with a photo. The guarantee page's questions section says something different for hard goods: 'unused items in their original packaging can be returned within 30 days for a refund, minus return shipping.' The two company pages are quoted side by side here and the page does not say which one applies.

Delivery and time limits. The Terms list among the customer's responsibilities to 'Accept deliveries (refusing packages voids the guarantee)', and say 'Claims must be brought within one year where permitted by law.' The Shipping policy says 'Most orders ship within 3-5 business days', that the company 'may delay shipments when temperatures are forecasted below 32°F or above 95°F', that 'Delivery timeframes are estimates and may be extended due to weather, carrier delays, or seasonal demand', that an address change may be requested 'within 24 hours of placing your order' (only before fulfillment begins; changes after processing incur fees) and that 'Live plants cannot ship to P.O. Boxes'.

What the guarantee excludes. The guarantee page lists as not covered: improper planting or inadequate watering, weather extremes, pests or disease after planting, wildlife damage, planting outside the plant's hardiness zone, and problems reported more than 7 days after the customer noticed them or after coverage ends. It lists as not eligible for either guarantee: annual plants, flower bulbs, grass plugs, hard goods, gift cards, warranty purchases and shipping fees. Each plant is eligible for one replacement, and 'a replacement plant does not start a new coverage period'.

Optional one-year coverage. Growing & Glowing Guarantee Plus is sold separately at checkout; the company page says it covers properly planted and cared-for plants that fail after the 45-day period, through one year from delivery, with 'store credit for the plant's cost, plus free shipping on your next order'; the page lists store credit, not a refund, as the Plus remedy.

Cancelling an order. The Refund policy says an order can be cancelled for a full refund 'any time before fulfillment begins' by contacting [email protected]; fulfillment 'usually begins within 24 hours of placing your order, and sometimes sooner'; once an order has entered fulfillment 'we're unable to cancel it regardless of timing'.

Contacts and escalation. The company lists [email protected], telephone (888) 477-9062 and customer service hours of Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST, and the guarantee page says that 'Spring is our busiest season, so replies can take a few extra days then' and that a customer who has not heard back should 'reply to your original email rather than starting a new one'. For a disagreement, the Terms ask the customer to contact the company within 60 days first; if that does not resolve it, the Terms send disputes to binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association, with small claims under $10,000 possible in the customer's county or in Lorain County, Ohio. BBB's profile for the company also carries a 'Submit a Complaint' link.

Court record: two federal dockets naming Nature Hills Nursery, Inc. as defendant

A CourtListener (RECAP) search for 'Nature Hills Nursery' on October 12, 2026 returned two federal dockets; a search of published opinions returned none. The claims described below are the plaintiffs' allegations as the court documents state them; they are not findings.

Williams v. Nature Hills Nursery, Inc., No. 1:21-cv-01489 (S.D.N.Y.). Filed February 18, 2021; nature of suit '446 Civil Rights: Americans with Disabilities - Other'. On July 8, 2021 the plaintiff filed a notice of voluntary dismissal 'with prejudice and without costs'; on July 9, 2021 Judge Liman endorsed it and directed the Clerk to close the case. The complaint (ECF 1) is captioned 'Class Action Complaint' and sues on behalf of the plaintiff 'and all other persons similarly situated'; it alleges that the plaintiff, who is legally blind and uses screen-reading software, could not use the company's website. No class was certified on the docket entries read, and the docket does not state the terms of any resolution.

Fudge v. Nature Hills Nursery, Inc., No. 3:22-cv-00841 (D. Or.). Filed in federal court on June 9, 2022 by notice of removal; nature of suit 'Civil Rights: Employment'. On August 12, 2022 the court denied the defendant's motion to transfer venue to the District of Nebraska. The court's August 12, 2022 opinion describes the plaintiff as a former employee who sued 'his former employer' alleging 'disability discrimination and failure to accommodate a physical impairment under ORS § 659A.112', and says the company 'brings a counterclaim' alleging that the plaintiff breached a fiduciary duty; the company states that the termination was based on unsatisfactory work performance. These are the parties' allegations, not findings. The docket's last entry, on October 19, 2022, is 'Dismissal - Terminate Case'; the entry text read does not state the terms. The Fudge docket is not labelled as a class action.

These are litigation records only and should not be read as findings about the company's products or service. A search of the Nebraska Attorney General's consumer-protection site (protectthegoodlife.nebraska.gov) for "Nature Hills" on October 12, 2026 returned 'Your search yielded no results.' The Ohio Attorney General and FTC enforcement pages were not searched successfully that day, so no statement is made about them.

Is Nature Hills Nursery Legitimate?

As checked on October 12, 2026: the company website names Nature Hills Nursery, Inc., 'Est. 2001', with a published email, a toll-free number, a mailing address in Avon, Ohio and written guarantee, refund, shipping and privacy policies; BBB lists the business as a corporation at 4534 Center Rd, Avon, OH, and Trustpilot shows a claimed profile; the BBB and Trustpilot figures are in the complaint record above. Two closed federal dockets name the company as defendant (a class action complaint alleging website accessibility failures, voluntarily dismissed with prejudice in 2021, and a former employee's disability-discrimination suit, terminated in 2022). The Ohio Department of Agriculture's page lists a nursery inspection certificate (#23877, void after 12/31/2026) for 'Willoway Nurseries, Inc d.b.a. Nature Hills Nursery' at the Avon address. No regulator enforcement action was identified in the sources opened on October 12, 2026; the Nebraska Attorney General site search for "Nature Hills" returned no results that day.

Live plants carry risks that no guarantee removes: the guarantee excludes problems reported more than 7 days after the customer noticed them or after coverage ends, planting outside the hardiness zone and weather damage, and the Refund policy says plants cannot be returned. The Terms also say refusing a package voids the guarantee. Customers should keep photos, the order number and the delivery date and put any claim in writing to [email protected] within the 7-day window.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Nature Hills Growing & Glowing Guarantee?

The company's guarantee page says every eligible plant is covered for 45 days from delivery, and orders delivered after October 15 are covered through May 1. An optional paid add-on, Growing & Glowing Guarantee Plus, extends coverage to one year from delivery, with store credit and free shipping on the next order as its stated remedy rather than a refund.

How do I file a claim with Nature Hills?

The company says to email photos of each plant and the order number to [email protected] within 7 days of noticing the problem, while the plant is still covered, and to say which remedy is wanted. For trees and shrubs it asks for a scratch-test photo showing the tissue under the bark.

Can plants be returned to Nature Hills?

The Refund policy says the company 'cannot accept returns, exchanges, or package refusals for any plants, trees, or shrubs' and that claims are settled from photos under the guarantee instead. For hard goods the Refund policy says sales are final, with replacement or refund if damaged, defective or wrong; the guarantee page separately says unused hard goods in original packaging 'can be returned within 30 days for a refund, minus return shipping'. The two pages differ and both are quoted.

What remedies does the 45-day guarantee offer?

The guarantee page lists a free replacement with shipping paid by the company, store credit that never expires, or a full refund to the original payment method, with no restocking or processing fee. Each plant gets one replacement, and the replacement does not start a new coverage period.

What does the Nature Hills guarantee not cover?

The company lists improper planting or watering, weather extremes, pests or disease after planting, wildlife damage, planting outside the hardiness zone and late reporting. Annuals, bulbs, grass plugs, hard goods, gift cards, warranty purchases and shipping fees are not eligible.

Can I cancel a Nature Hills order?

The Refund policy says an order can be cancelled for a full refund before fulfillment begins by contacting [email protected]; fulfillment usually begins within 24 hours, and after that the order cannot be cancelled.

How do I contact Nature Hills Nursery?

The company publishes [email protected], (888) 477-9062 (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST) and a mailing address of PO Box 299, Avon, OH 44011; the phone number and hours appear in the Terms, which also describe the number as taking customer-care text messages. BBB also lists (877) 477-9062 as another phone number.

What do BBB and Trustpilot show for Nature Hills Nursery?

BBB, as displayed on October 12, 2026: A- rating, not accredited, 66 complaints in three years, 3.45 of 5 from 61 customer reviews. Trustpilot, same day: 4.0 from 654 reviews, claimed profile. ComplaintsBoard, same day: 32 complaints and 3 reviews (page updated June 25, 2026). Three separate pools, not combined.

What do the Terms say about disputes with Nature Hills?

The Terms of service (effective September 30, 2026) say they are governed by Ohio law, ask the customer to contact the company within 60 days first, and say disputes not resolved that way go to binding arbitration through the American Arbitration Association, with small claims under $10,000 allowed in the customer's county or in Lorain County, Ohio.
