National Auto Care claims, cancellation and transfer: where to start
Who handles an NAC contract now. Contracts administered by NAC are supported through EasyCare's National Auto Care Support page (nationalautocare.com forwards there), which lists the claims and customer support contacts below.
Filing a claim. The page tells repair facilities to begin a claim through its Repair Facility Portal or by calling the numbers listed. Its "Contract Holders" box tells consumers to return to the selling dealer or call the customer service center at 800-526-8678, which can refer callers to a nearby dealer. The posted hours are Claims, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM EST and Saturday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST; Customer Service, Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM EST and Saturday 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM EST. GAP claims and GAP customer service run Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM EST and are closed on weekends; the page links a GAP claims checklist and a GAP Claims Portal.
Cancelling. Under "Cancel my Contract" the page says: "If your agreement is cancelable, please contact your original selling dealership. Not all agreements may be canceled." It adds that the dealer can help cancel the coverage, that depending on the coverage a cancellation fee may be deducted from the refund, that any refund is based on the terms of the specific coverage, and that "any refund to which you are entitled will be paid to your selling dealer." Read the cancellation section of your own agreement, send the cancellation request to the dealer in writing, and if the contract was financed with the car, check your loan statement to see whether the refund was credited. For Florida contracts, section 634.121, Florida Statutes, sets minimum refunds: a buyer who cancels within 60 days of purchase gets back 100 percent of the price paid, less any claims paid and an administrative fee of no more than 5 percent of that price; a buyer who cancels after 60 days gets back at least 90 percent of the unearned pro rata price, less any claims paid. The same section keeps the service agreement company responsible for the refund even when it is paid out through the dealer. Contracts sold in other states follow that state's law and the agreement's own terms.

Transferring. Under "Transfer my Contract" the page says that if the agreement is transferable it requires an odometer statement or title showing mileage at the time of transfer and the warranty transfer fee set out in the agreement, and it links a transfer form. In Florida, section 634.121 makes motor vehicle service agreements assignable to the next retail buyer of the car and caps the assignment fee at $40.
If a claim is denied. The contract is the governing document: it lists covered parts, exclusions, the deductible, maintenance requirements and the prior-authorization procedure. Before any teardown or repair, make sure the shop has an authorization number from the administrator. Keep maintenance receipts, the repair order, the claim number and the denial reason in writing. To escalate, write to the administrator at the number above and to the selling dealer, then contact the state agency that regulates service contracts where the contract was sold (in Texas, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation; in Florida, the Department of Financial Services helpline at 1-877-693-5236; elsewhere, ask the state attorney general's consumer office which agency covers service contracts). BBB accepts complaints through National Auto Care Corporation's BBB profile, and deceptive sales can be reported to the state attorney general and the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Complaints about National Auto Care
6 published complaint reports are linked to this profile.
The linked reports were posted between 2006 and 2012 by customers who say they held a National Auto Care vehicle service contract. They allege that an engine repair was denied after an adjuster's inspection cited low oil or missed maintenance, that a part was refused because it was not named on the contract's covered list, that a faxed prior-authorization request went unanswered and the repair invoice was then declined, that an inspector recommended cleaning a failed sensor instead of replacing it, and that a bumper-to-bumper or flat-tire benefit was refused with only a partial refund. These are the posters' own accounts; National Auto Care's side is not stated in them, and all of them were written under NAC's previous ownership.
BBB. Separately, BBB shows 143 complaints about National Auto Care Corporation in the last 3 years and 46 in the last 12 months, mostly about service or repair. BBB marks 104 of them as answered and 39 as resolved. The business is BBB accredited with an A+ rating, and BBB lists 66 customer reviews. BBB's figures are its own and are not combined with the reports on this site.
Who National Auto Care is and who owns it now
What it does. National Auto Care (NAC) administers vehicle service contracts and GAP products that are sold through auto dealers. The administrator handles claims and customer service; the dealer that sold the contract handles cancellations. Auto Remarketing described NAC as having served auto, RV and powersports dealers, credit unions and financial institutions for more than 35 years at the time of its sale, and BBB lists the business as started in 1984.
Ownership. APCO Holdings, home of the EasyCare and GWC Warranty brands, acquired NAC in January 2023, Auto Remarketing reported. Private equity firm Lovell Minnick Partners had invested in NAC for just over four years before the sale, and Tony Wanderon, previously NAC's CEO, became CEO of the combined company. EasyCare's About page describes EasyCare as an APCO Holdings brand and says Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan is the majority shareholder of APCO Holdings, LLC.
Issuer of the contract. The legal obligor can differ by state and product. The footer of the NAC Support page says the issuing provider in Texas is Automobile Protection Corporation - APCO and that the issuing provider is subject to change; in Florida it names the same company under license number 60080, P.O. Box 88230, Atlanta, GA 30356-8230. It also says the product is a service contract, separate from any manufacturer warranty, and that buying it is optional and not required for financing. The obligor named on your own contract is the one that counts.
Office. BBB lists National Auto Care Corporation at 440 Polaris Pkwy, Suite 250, Westerville, OH 43082, which EasyCare's About page also lists as one of its main offices.
