Missouri Star Quilt: how to return, cancel, change an order or get a missing item fixed (checked October 12, 2026)

Contact first. The Contact page gives (888) 571-1122 (toll-free) and [email protected], with phone hours "Monday - Friday 8am to 4pm CST"; the same page also lists (816) 548-2314 under "By Phone" and offers chat and a message form. For a kit with a missing item the F.A.Q. says to contact customer service at 888-571-1122 or [email protected].

Returns. The Shipping Policy & Returns page says "All returns must be requested through our Returns Portal," that "Our products may be returned within 30 days of original purchase, provided they are unopened and in like-new condition," and that if a return is approved "a prepaid label will be sent and $10 will be deducted from your refund to cover the cost of return shipping." It warns that "If you return your order without going through the portal, you risk losing your refund." If the portal does not work the page names [email protected], saying the returns are powered by frate.co.

Items that the policy says cannot be returned or cancelled. "Daily Deal items are final sale"; fabric sold by the yard is "cut to order. Once it has been cut, the order cannot be canceled, changed, or refunded" (the page says to contact the company right away if changes are needed before cutting begins); and Arrow Sewing Furniture, which "is shipped directly from the manufacturer, not our warehouse," is listed as not returnable through the company ("we are unable to accept returns"), with a separate manufacturer warranty described in the F.A.Q.

Damaged or wrong items. The returns page says "if you receive damaged items, we will replace them" through the returns portal, with an identical replacement "when available" or a similar item if it is no longer available.

Changing an order or a wrong address. The F.A.Q. says "The ability to edit orders depends on where your order is in the shipping process" and that "In most cases, we'll wait for you to receive your order, and then you can return it or adjust it as needed." For a package sent to an old address it says that for standard shipping customers should contact customer service and that "we will reship your order the first time it happens, but please make sure you then update your address. Any additional orders shipped to the wrong address will not be re-shipped."

Block of the Month subscriptions. The company's "How do I pay for a BOM subscription?" F.A.Q. says "The first order in a subscription is charged immediately. Your credit card will then automatically be charged monthly when the subsequent months are processed, which generally occurs in the first week of the month. Your subscription will continue to process until all months are sent," and that this "does include a low monthly shipping charge." The shipping F.A.Q. says the first part is shipped immediately, that later parts are sent "within the first week of each month," and that "some BOM programs may start as a pre-order" (the product page lists the estimated first ship date). Another F.A.Q. says the company "can only bill and ship one month at a time." A cancellation instruction for these subscriptions was not found in the F.A.Q. articles opened on October 12, 2026, so questions about stopping a subscription go to customer service at the phone number or email above; the F.A.Q. article on updating a subscription card explains how to change the card on file.

Mailing in a quilt for machine quilting. The "Sending in Your Quilt" F.A.Q. recommends placing the quilt top "in a weatherproof plastic bag," suggests insuring the package, and asks customers to include the order number and a phone number. The "General Machine Questions" F.A.Q. says "We always insure packages; they will be sent to UPS, and a signature will be required for pick up," and, in another answer, that "Once a quilt is completed and ready for shipping, we cannot hold it to send at a later date"; it suggests updating the return address before the quilt ships if no one will be available to sign. That answer also names FedEx where the earlier one names UPS; both are the company's own wording.

If the company does not resolve it. Card holders can dispute a charge with the card issuer; the FTC says to send the letter "so that it reaches the issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent to you." Complaints can also be filed with the Missouri Attorney General's Consumer Protection office (its page offers a Consumer Complaint Form and gives the Consumer Protection Hotline 1-800-392-8222) and with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Who operates Missouri Star Quilt and what it sells

What the company says about itself. The About page says the company began when the Doan family "in November 2008 ... bought a building in Hamilton" to house a longarm quilting machine, then moved online, and that its YouTube tutorials made it "the biggest quilting channel on YouTube." It describes more than 15 shops in Hamilton, Missouri ("Quilt Town, USA"), a Daily Deal, precut fabric, and machine quilting by mail. These are the company's own statements.

Legal entity. The Terms of Service page is headed "Missouri Star Quilt Company, INC TERMS OF SERVICE" and its contact section gives [email protected]. In the Missouri Secretary of State business search on October 12, 2026, a record "MISSOURI STAR QUILT COMPANY, INC." appeared as a "Gen. Business - For Profit (Foreign)" entity with status "Good Standing" and a created date of 10/29/2025, and a separate record "MSQC Investments, LLC" (domestic LLC, created 8/14/2008, previous name "Missouri Star Quilt Company LLC", registered agent Sarah Galbraith). The search results did not state how the two records relate, and this page does not infer it. A 2020 federal complaint named "Missouri Star Quilt Company, Inc." as defendant (see the court record below).

Ownership as listed by BBB. The BBB profile lists "Sarah Galbraith, Co Owner" and "Alan Doan, Co Owner" under business management.

Addresses. The Contact page gives 211 N Davis St, Hamilton, MO 64644; the Terms' governing-law clause gives 1005 S Hughes, Hamilton, MO 64644; the BBB profile lists 114 N Davis St, Hamilton, MO 64644. The company's own pages checked do not explain the differences.

Policies that differ between pages. The Shipping Policy page currently says "$5.99 flat shipping on all orders up to $58.99" with free Standard Shipping over $59, while the About page text refers to "$6.99 flat rate on all orders up to $68.99." The Shipping page also states Canadian and international flat rates "EFFECTIVE 3/26/2026" and that the company "currently pays all duties." When pages disagree, the Shipping Policy page is the one linked from the site footer today.

Complaint and review figures as displayed on October 12, 2026, and this site's posts

BBB, as displayed on October 12, 2026. Profile for Missouri Star Quilt Company, 114 N Davis St, Hamilton, MO: not BBB Accredited; rating F. BBB's listed reasons are "Failure to respond to 2 complaint(s) filed against business" and "3 complaint(s) filed against business." The Complaints tab shows "2 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "1 complaint filed in the last 12 months," both marked "Unanswered." One complaint (October 23, 2025, type Delivery Issues) says the customer moved after buying a Christmas box in April and the company would not change the delivery address or refund; the other (July 11, 2024, Delivery Issues) says an order was cancelled but shipped anyway, was refunded, and no return label was sent. These are the complainants' statements as BBB displays them. The Reviews tab shows 2.33 out of 5 from "an average of 6 customer reviews," including a February 9, 2026 five-star review describing a phone correction of a wrong item. BBB's data show a file opened on December 6, 2012 and a business start of November 1, 2008.

Trustpilot, as displayed on October 12, 2026. The profile "Missouri Star Quilt Co" is unclaimed and shows 3.2 out of 5 from 4 reviews; Trustpilot notes no history of asking for reviews and that reviews may not be representative. Four reviews is far too few to describe the experience of the company's customers.

This site's own archive. A search of usacomplaints.com's approved posts on October 12, 2026 for "Missouri Star," "Missouri Quilt," "MSQC," "missouriquilt" and "Jenny Doan" found no complaint about this company, so none is linked to this profile. The BBB and Trustpilot figures above are third-party displays and are not added to or compared with any figure from this site.

Court record: ADA website-accessibility suit (S.D.N.Y. 2020) and what was checked

Williams v. Missouri Star Quilt Company, Inc., No. 1:20-cv-02307 (S.D.N.Y.). On March 15, 2020 Pamela Williams filed a putative class action alleging that the company's website, www.missouriquiltco.com, was not accessible to blind and visually impaired users, citing Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act and the New York City Human Rights Law and seeking an injunction. The company was served on May 13, 2020. On July 6, 2020 a Notice of Settlement was docketed and the court entered an Order of Discontinuance (conditional, with a 60-day period to submit a stipulation or request restoration); a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal was filed on July 29, 2020. The settlement terms are not on the public docket pages that were opened, and no court finding on the allegations was made.

Other searches. A CourtListener RECAP search for "Missouri Star Quilt" on October 12, 2026 returned the Williams case and bankruptcy dockets in which the company appears on creditor mailing lists or as a bidder (JOANN Inc. 2024 and 2025; F+W Media 2019); those entries are service-list or bid entries, not claims against the company. The CPSC recall database, queried by manufacturer, retailer, distributor, importer and product name for "Missouri Star," returned no recall records on October 12, 2026. These are results of the sources checked on that date, not a statement that nothing exists elsewhere.

Is Missouri Star Quilt Legitimate?

Missouri Star Quilt is an operating retailer: its website takes orders, its Terms are headed "Missouri Star Quilt Company, INC," it publishes a toll-free phone number, email, written shipping and returns terms, and a Missouri Secretary of State search shows a "MISSOURI STAR QUILT COMPANY, INC." record in good standing. The record also includes a BBB profile rated F with 2 complaints in three years (both marked unanswered) and 6 customer reviews averaging 2.33, an unclaimed Trustpilot profile with 4 reviews, and a 2020 website-accessibility suit that ended with a notice of voluntary dismissal. The returns terms are the practical point for buyers: unopened, like-new items within 30 days through the returns portal with $10 deducted, and no returns on Daily Deal items, cut fabric or sewing furniture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who operates Missouri Star Quilt?

The Terms of Service page is headed "Missouri Star Quilt Company, INC TERMS OF SERVICE" and the company's address is in Hamilton, Missouri. A Missouri Secretary of State search lists "MISSOURI STAR QUILT COMPANY, INC." as a foreign for-profit entity in good standing and, separately, "MSQC Investments, LLC" (previously "Missouri Star Quilt Company LLC"). BBB lists Sarah Galbraith and Alan Doan as co-owners. The sources checked do not state how the registry records relate.

How do I return an order to Missouri Star Quilt?

The Shipping Policy & Returns page says returns must be requested through the Returns Portal, within 30 days of purchase, for items that are "unopened and in like-new condition." If approved, a prepaid label is sent and $10 is deducted from the refund for return shipping. Returns sent without going through the portal risk losing the refund; [email protected] is named if the portal does not work.

Can fabric sold by the yard or Daily Deal items be returned?

The Shipping Policy page says Daily Deal items are final sale and that fabric by the yard "is cut to order. Once it has been cut, the order cannot be canceled, changed, or refunded." It says to contact the company right away if changes are needed before cutting begins. Sewing furniture shipped by the manufacturer is listed as not returnable through the company.

Can I change or cancel an order or fix a wrong address?

The F.A.Q. says the ability to edit an order depends on where it is in the shipping process and that customers can email, chat or call. For a package sent to an old address, it says standard-shipping customers should contact customer service and that the company will reship the first time but not for additional wrong-address orders.

What does shipping cost and how long does it take?

The Shipping Policy page says $5.99 flat shipping on orders up to $58.99 and free Standard Shipping on orders over $59, with Standard taking "3-12 Business Days to the lower 48"; UPS Ground is $12 and UPS 2nd Day Air $20. It adds that only Standard shipping can deliver to P.O. boxes. Other company pages show older rates, so the policy page should be checked at checkout.

What do BBB and Trustpilot show for Missouri Star Quilt?

As displayed on October 12, 2026, BBB shows a profile that is not accredited, rated F, with 2 complaints in the last 3 years (both unanswered) and 6 customer reviews averaging 2.33 out of 5. Trustpilot shows an unclaimed profile with 4 reviews averaging 3.2, noting the company has not invited reviews. These counts are small and are not combined.

Has Missouri Star Quilt been sued or been the subject of a regulator action?

A CourtListener search on October 12, 2026 found a 2020 putative class action, Williams v. Missouri Star Quilt Company, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. 1:20-cv-02307), alleging website inaccessibility under the ADA, which ended with a notice of settlement and a notice of voluntary dismissal in July 2020. No CPSC recall records and no regulator order naming the company were identified in the sources checked on that date.

How is a Missouri Star Quilt Block of the Month subscription billed and shipped?

According to the company's F.A.Q., the first order is charged immediately, the card is then "automatically" charged monthly when later months are processed (generally in the first week of the month) until all months are sent, and a low monthly shipping charge is included. The first part ships immediately and later parts "within the first week of each month"; some programs start as pre-orders. A cancellation instruction was not found in the F.A.Q. articles opened on October 12, 2026, so customer service is the route to ask.

Where can I complain if Missouri Star Quilt does not resolve a problem?

Contact customer service at (888) 571-1122 or [email protected] first. Card holders can dispute a charge with their card issuer within 60 days of the first bill with the error, according to the FTC. Complaints can also be filed with the Missouri Attorney General's consumer protection office (1-800-392-8222) and the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
