Kyndred
Kyndred is the maker of the AI companion app "Maya"; its Terms say the service is operated by KYNDREDSDK S.R.L., a Romanian limited liability company. The company's own pages quote US$24 a month or US$199 a year after a seven-day free trial, with cancellation in account settings (or through Apple or Google if you subscribed there) and individual arbitration for U.S. users unless they opt out within 30 days. As displayed on 2026-10-01, the sources checked showed no BBB profile, Trustpilot page or ComplaintsBoard reviews for Kyndred, and this site holds no complaints about it.

Charged by Kyndred, or want to cancel or delete your data? What to do
Kyndred is the maker of the AI companion "Maya". Its Terms say the service is operated by KYNDREDSDK S.R.L., a company established in Romania. Which route cancels a subscription or gets money back depends on where you subscribed:
- Subscribed on getkyndred.com (card, processed by Stripe). Kyndred's Terms (section 10) say you can cancel "in your settings" or "from the link in any billing e-mail", that "no character and no person tries to talk you out of it", and that cancellation "takes effect at the end of the current period", with access kept until then. Its Billing & Refunds page says charges appear on a card statement as "KYNDRED". To write to the company: [email protected] or getkyndred.com/contact; the company says it aims to answer within two business days (Monday to Friday, Romanian time). Its release notes invite bug and feedback reports in its Discord server, while its Contact and Privacy Choices pages send billing, privacy and data requests to that e-mail address or the contact form; the company's Model policy page (getkyndred.com/model-policy) has a separate takedown-request form for rights holders and says "everything is resolved within 24 hours."
- Subscribed in the iPhone app. The Terms say that if you subscribe through an app store, "you cancel, withdraw and request refunds through that store." Apple Support's "Cancel a subscription from Apple" page gives the iPhone steps: in Settings tap your name, tap Subscriptions, tap the subscription, tap Cancel Subscription. Apple's page also says: "If you signed up for a trial subscription and you don't want to renew it, cancel it at least 24 hours before the trial ends." That Apple wording differs from the web-trial wording on Kyndred's Billing & Refunds page (below), so if you started the trial in the iPhone app, use Apple's deadline. Apple's refund page says to sign in to reportaproblem.apple.com, choose "I'd like to" and then "Request a refund."
- Subscribed in the Android app. Google Play Help says to go to subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription and tap Cancel subscription, and warns: "When you uninstall the app, your subscription won't cancel." Google's refund-policy page says the app developer "can help with purchase issues and can process refunds pursuant to its policies and applicable laws," and that eligibility "depends on what you bought, when and how you paid, and where you're located." Google's "Request a refund on Google Play" page gives the route: on play.google.com open your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Budget & order history, click Report a problem on the order, describe the situation, note that you would like a refund and submit; it says to allow 1-4 days for a decision.
Free trial and refund rules, as the company states them. Kyndred's Billing & Refunds page says every new customer starts with a seven-day free trial, that a card is asked for "so that bots and repeat trials stay out," and that it e-mails the date and amount of the first charge two days before the trial ends. It adds: "Cancel any time up to the moment of that charge and you pay nothing; if you are charged within 24 hours after cancelling, tell us and we refund it." Its general rule is: "Once a paid period has started we do not refund it, except in the cases below." The listed cases include a 14-day withdrawal right for consumers in the EU and UK, a refund for the affected period if the service "was faulty, unavailable for a significant time, or not what we described," and refunds if the company removes a paid feature or ends your access. The page also says: "Please write to us before disputing a charge with your bank." Other company pages word the start differently: the homepage says "Free to start", and the Meet Maya page answers "Is it really free to start?" with "Full access from the first message, free. If we ask for a card up front it's only to keep bots out", while the Billing & Refunds page and Terms section 10 say the company asks for a card or payment method for the trial. The Meet Maya page also says "Cancel in one tap, no email, no hoops."
Prices differ by channel. The Billing & Refunds page states US$24 per month or US$199 per year after the trial. The Apple App Store listing, as displayed on 2026-10-01, shows in-app purchases of "Monthly access $23.99" and "Yearly access $199.99". The Meet Maya page words the yearly plan as "$199 a year (that's $16.60 a month) or $24 a month". Two other pages on Kyndred's own site give a $19 one-time price: an older blog post (listed as May 2026) says Kyndred is "$19 once, no subscription", and the page for a character named Ana (getkyndred.com/ana, marked "launching soon" and "She isn't open for dates yet") says "$19, once. Not a subscription" and, for that planned purchase, "Refunds at any time, for any reason." The Billing & Refunds page, which covers the subscription, says a paid period is not refunded except in the cases it lists, and the pages checked do not say how the Ana offer relates to the subscription. Check the price and refund terms shown at checkout.
Cancelling and deleting. The Billing & Refunds page says that after cancelling "You keep access until the end of the period you paid for." The Privacy Policy says conversations, memory and account data are kept "for as long as your account is active" and deleted within 30 days of you deleting them or closing your account. Cancelling a subscription and deleting data are separate actions on the Billing and Privacy pages. The company's 27 August 2026 release note describes account exit as: "No further charges. Your current period runs out, then nothing renews," then "The account closes straight away; one emailed link reopens it" within 30 days, after which "Conversations, memory, photos, analytics" are gone ("Self-serve, from Settings. Invoices stay as long as tax law requires."). That note does not say how closing an account affects a subscription billed through Apple or Google Play; for those, the store pages above describe cancelling in the store, and Google's page says uninstalling the app does not cancel it.
Deleting your data. The company's Privacy Choices page says: "Delete your account, or get a copy of your data: Settings → Privacy & data. Deletion runs after a 30-day grace window you can cancel." Requests can also be sent to [email protected] from the e-mail address on the account. The Privacy Policy says: "To delete everything, close your account in your settings or write to us."
If the company does not resolve it. Terms section 15 asks you to try informal resolution for 60 days first. For users in the United States, section 15A provides for binding individual arbitration under American Arbitration Association consumer rules and a waiver of jury trial and class actions, with an opt-out by e-mailing [email protected] with the subject "Arbitration opt-out" within 30 days after first accepting the Terms; small-claims court is carved out. Outside the company: the FTC's ReportFraud.ftc.gov (the site itself says "We can't resolve your individual report"), your state consumer protection office (list at usa.gov/state-consumer), and, per Kyndred's own pages, Romania's consumer authority ANPC (Terms section 15) and data-protection authority ANSPDCP (Privacy Policy section 10).
Who is Kyndred?
Operator. Kyndred's Terms, Privacy Policy and contact page name KYNDREDSDK S.R.L., "a limited liability company established in Romania, registered office at Tecuci, str. Furceni nr. 62, Galați County, Romania," with Trade Register no. J2026034037001, tax identification code (CUI) 54758064 and VAT no. RO55328014. Apple's App Store lists the seller as KyndredSDK S.R.L. and Google Play lists the developer as KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. at "STR. FURCENI NR. 62, 805300 Tecuci, Romania". These registry numbers are as the company states them. The Romanian trade-register (ONRC) record was not opened for this page, and a query to the tax authority's (ANAF) public web service on 2026-10-01 returned no response, so the numbers are not confirmed here against an official registry. Kyndred's Careers page says "Three of us, one room in Bucharest. We are hiring."
People and funding (press reports, September 29, 2026). Pulse 2.0, Vestbee and Business Review report that Kyndred was founded in 2026 by Rareș Moșescu and Alex Băraru, previously co-founders of Meditații.ro, and raised a €500,000 pre-seed round from Early Game Ventures. Pulse 2.0 reports "more than 150 paying customers within three months of launch"; that is a figure reported from the company, not something verified here. Kyndred's Privacy Policy lists "INFONOWMEDITATII S.R.L., our sister company", which it says issued some invoices for earlier subscriptions. Early Game Ventures' own article about Kyndred (undated) says "We invested in Kyndred" and names the founders as "Alex and Rareș", and its portfolio page lists Kyndred ("AI Characters with Real Presence", tagged "B2C; AI"); neither page, as retrieved, states an amount, so the €500,000 figure rests on the press reports. The "Backed by" badge in the footer of Kyndred's own site (image alt text "ElevenLabs Grants") links to elevenlabs.io/startup-grants; the pages checked state no grant terms or amount.
Product. Kyndred's pages describe AI characters with real-time voice, animated Live2D avatars and a "tiered memory". The homepage presents Maya as "available now" and a character named Lila as "Our first character" ("A YouTuber who makes her own music and co-streams with one of our founders"); the Terms refer to "Maya and any other character we make". The Terms list the web app at getkyndred.com, a desktop app and a Telegram bot; Apple's App Store shows an app "Kyndred AI" (the earliest version shown in its version history is dated Sep 3, 2026) and Google Play shows an app "Kyndred" ("100+ Downloads", updated Sep 29, 2026). The Terms' list of services still says "Kyndred mobile apps, when we release them". The Terms state: "Every Kyndred character is an AI. You are never talking to a human, and a character is never a doctor, therapist, lawyer or crisis line." The company's Safety & Crisis page (last updated June 2026) lists crisis lines including "US: 988, call or text."
Release notes, from the company's own Updates pages (checked 2026-10-01). The Updates page lists four releases. July 2026 (no day given): Maya watching a game and reacting ("Watch and play together", labelled alpha), an open Windows alpha, and memory "save points". 7 August 2026 ("shipped 7 August"): photos in chat, camera on calls and a Windows app 0.6.4 fix. 27 August 2026: "Maya Rewind" (a 30-second call clip that the page says is "held on your device and never uploaded"), the Android app on Google Play and "one-button" account exit; the same page says "iPhone is in review. Sign up on the web first; signing up in the app is coming." September 2026 (no day given): custom characters from Live2D models that users upload. The page closes with "Something broke, or something she said stuck with you? Tell us in Discord. We read everything."
Where Kyndred's own pages differ. The following are quoted side by side; the pages checked do not reconcile them, and this page does not choose between them.
- Windows app access. The July release note says the Windows app is "Open to everyone now. No more closed alpha, no list to get on. Signed in, on Windows: install it right now." A company blog post from August 2026 says "Subscribers on Windows can install the desktop app" and mentions "a Windows desktop app for subscribers".
- Custom characters. The September release note says "The stage where Maya lives is now open. Upload a Live2D model you own". The company's Model policy page says: "Model uploads and the marketplace are a development preview. They are switched on for a limited group of test accounts, are not part of the generally released product, and are still changing." The Terms describe importing a model as a feature ("You can bring your own character").
- Where the game-watching runs. The July release note says "All of her runs in the cloud: the seeing, the thinking, the voice," and, in another passage, "Screen reading stays on your machine; private messages never leave it."
- Cookies and ad measurement. The Privacy Policy (section 12) says analytics identifiers (PostHog) and advertising pixels (Meta, Reddit) "are set only if you agree in the cookie banner". The Privacy Choices page, for a browser with no saved choice, reads "You have not made a choice on this browser yet, so everything is on."
Age rule and content ratings. Kyndred's Terms (section 3) say: "You must be at least 18 years old (or older, if the age of majority where you live is higher). Kyndred is designed for adults and is not suitable for minors." This is the company's eligibility rule for using the service. Other labels on the company's pages and in the stores are different things: the "Meet Maya" page answers a question about romance settings with "The ceiling is 16+ and tasteful. Maya never goes explicit" (a statement about how far romantic content goes), the App Store listing shows "Age Rating 13+" and Google Play shows "Teen" (store content ratings). Separately, a Kyndred site at kyndred.dev, whose Terms are dated April 2026, says "You must be at least 16 years old to use Kyndred"; Google Play's support e-mail for the app is on the kyndred.dev domain, and its Terms name no operating company, so how it relates to the current service is not stated on that page. That older statement does differ from the 18 in the current Terms.
Data practices, in the company's words. The Privacy Policy (last updated September 2026) names KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. as controller and says account data, conversations and memory are stored in the EEA while copies pass through hosting, AI and voice providers, "most of them in the United States", while a reply is generated (it lists providers such as Baseten, Groq, Cerebras, SambaNova, Mistral, Deepgram, Inworld, ElevenLabs, Stripe and Supabase). It says "We do not sell your data and we do not use your conversations or imported characters to train AI models," asks for a separate consent tick-box covering sensitive things a conversation can reveal, and says that for visitors who accept marketing cookies it shares hashed identifiers with Meta and Reddit for ad measurement (switchable on its Privacy Choices page, which also describes treating a Global Privacy Control signal as an opt-out). The provider table also lists Google LLC for "Gemini vision models, only when you share your camera or a photo", with the data described as "The frames or photo you choose to share and the question about them; not used to train Google's models". Section 11A addresses Washington consumer health data (the My Health My Data Act) and says the company never sells it. Terms section 8 says: "Conversations are not confidential in the professional sense. A character is not bound by any duty of confidentiality, privilege or secrecy," and that the company "may review conversations, using automated tools and — in limited cases such as a safety report, a legal obligation, or suspected abuse — human review." Conversations flagged as a crisis or as a sign of a minor are kept as a sealed copy for three years after deletion, "used solely to answer a complaint, investigation or legal claim."
Other businesses with a similar name. The Kyndred family-networking app at kyndred.net ("Connecting families. Preserving memories.") has its own Terms dated August 19, 2026 and a support address at kyndred.net; its Terms describe it as operated by "the independent individual who operates it" and it is not the Romanian company described here. Kyndred's own contact page lists only the Romanian address above. BBB's search for "Kyndred" returned businesses spelled "Kindred" (hospitals, home builders and others at U.S. addresses), and Trustpilot's search listed names such as Kindred (livekindred.com); those are separate businesses.
Complaint and review record
This site. As of 2026-10-01, usacomplaints.com has no approved complaints about Kyndred or KYNDREDSDK S.R.L., so this page has no complaint themes.
Other review sources, as displayed on 2026-10-01.
- Apple App Store, "Kyndred AI": "This app hasn't received enough ratings or reviews to display an overview."
- Google Play, "Kyndred": the listing shows "100+ Downloads" and a "Teen" content rating; the page text read showed no star rating.
- Trustpilot: the review-page addresses for getkyndred.com and kyndred.dev returned Trustpilot's "page you're looking for could not be found" message, and the first results page of a Trustpilot search for "kyndred" did not list getkyndred.com.
- BBB: a search for "KyndredSDK" returned "No results"; a search for "Kyndred" returned only businesses spelled differently (see the other-businesses note above). BBB's directory covers the United States and Canada, so a Romanian operator may simply not be listed.
- ComplaintsBoard: a search for "kyndred" returned "No reviews matching" the term.
These are scoped results of the searches run that day, not a statement that no complaints exist anywhere. No regulator action naming Kyndred or KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. was identified in the sources checked on 2026-10-01 (English and Romanian news searches and the company's own pages); the FTC's, state attorneys general's and Romanian authorities' enforcement databases were not searched systematically for this page.
Court record
Searches run on 2026-10-01 on CourtListener (search API, results as returned that day): a RECAP (federal docket) search by case name "Kyndred" returned 0 dockets, as did one for "KyndredSDK"; an opinions search by case name "Kyndred" returned 0 results, as did one for "KyndredSDK". A full-text RECAP search for "Kyndred" returned 1 docket, a 2024 filing in the Northern District of Illinois in which a plaintiff named "The Kyndred Spirit, LLC" appears; it was filed before this company's stated 2026 founding and is not treated as concerning KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. Full-text searches for "KYNDREDSDK" and for opinions were rate-limited by CourtListener and not completed. The searched RECAP docket collection primarily covers federal courts; CourtListener also contains federal and state opinions and a growing, incomplete collection of state-court filings. It does not cover Romanian courts or private arbitration. Kyndred's Terms (section 15A) route disputes of U.S. users to individual arbitration, so such disputes would not necessarily appear in public court records.
Is Kyndred Legitimate?
KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. is named as the operator in Kyndred's Terms, Privacy Policy and contact page, and as the seller/developer on the Apple App Store and Google Play listings, with the same street address in Tecuci, Romania. The company states a Romanian Trade Register number and tax identifiers; the registry record itself was not opened for this page. Press reports from September 29, 2026 describe a €500,000 pre-seed round from Early Game Ventures and a company founded in 2026 with a product launched about three months earlier; the company describes itself as a team of three. This page assigns Kyndred no rating or verdict.
What a U.S. customer should weigh, from the company's own documents: the operator is in Romania and the Terms are governed by Romanian law, with individual arbitration and a class-action waiver for U.S. users unless they opt out within 30 days; the Terms set a minimum age of 18, while the App Store (13+), Google Play (Teen), the "Meet Maya" page (a 16+ ceiling on romantic content) and an older kyndred.dev Terms page (16) carry other age figures; two price points appear on the company's own pages (the Billing page, and a $19 one-time price on an older blog post and on a page for a not-yet-open character), and other company pages differ on Windows app access, the availability of custom characters and cookie defaults (see the side-by-side list under "Who is Kyndred?"); and conversations are processed by named U.S. AI and voice providers. In the sources checked on 2026-10-01 no complaint, regulator action or court case naming the company was found; the company launched in 2026, so the public record is short.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who operates Kyndred and the Maya app?
Kyndred's Terms of Use say the service "is operated by KYNDREDSDK S.R.L., a limited liability company established in Romania, registered office at Tecuci, str. Furceni nr. 62, Galați County, Romania," with Trade Register no. J2026034037001 and tax code (CUI) 54758064. Apple lists the seller as KyndredSDK S.R.L. and Google Play lists the developer as KYNDREDSDK S.R.L. at the same street. The company can be contacted at [email protected].
How much does Kyndred cost?
Kyndred's Billing & Refunds page says every new customer starts with a seven-day free trial and then pays US$24 per month or US$199 per year, renewing until cancelled. The Apple App Store listing shows in-app purchases of "Monthly access $23.99" and "Yearly access $199.99" as displayed on 2026-10-01. Two other pages on Kyndred's site give a $19 one-time price (an older blog post, and a page for a character named Ana that is marked "launching soon"); check the price shown at checkout.
How do I cancel a Kyndred subscription?
If you subscribed on getkyndred.com, Kyndred's Terms say you can cancel "in your settings" or "from the link in any billing e-mail", and that cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period. If you subscribed through the App Store, cancel in iPhone Settings: tap your name, then Subscriptions, then the subscription, then Cancel Subscription (Apple Support, which also says to cancel a trial "at least 24 hours before the trial ends"). If you subscribed through Google Play, open subscriptions in Google Play, select the subscription and tap Cancel subscription; Google notes that uninstalling the app does not cancel it. Cancelling does not delete your data; account and data deletion is a separate step (see the data-deletion answer).
Does Kyndred give refunds?
The Billing & Refunds page says: "Once a paid period has started we do not refund it, except in the cases below." The cases listed include a 14-day withdrawal right for consumers in the EU and UK, faulty or unavailable service, removal of a paid feature, and an account closed because it belongs to a minor. It also says a charge made within 24 hours after cancelling a trial will be refunded if you tell the company. For purchases through an app store, the page says refunds are handled by that store: Apple's route is reportaproblem.apple.com, and Google's refund-policy page points to the app developer and links a "Request a refund on Google Play" route (play.google.com, Payments & subscriptions, Budget & order history, Report a problem).
How do I delete my Kyndred account and data?
Kyndred's Privacy Choices page says: "Delete your account, or get a copy of your data: Settings → Privacy & data. Deletion runs after a 30-day grace window you can cancel." The Privacy Policy says account data, conversations and memory are deleted within 30 days of deletion, backups included, except records the company says it must keep (for example payment records under Romanian accounting law, and a sealed three-year copy of conversations flagged as a crisis or as a sign of a minor). Cancelling a subscription does not by itself delete the data; the policy says deletion happens when you close the account or request deletion. Requests can also be sent to [email protected]; the policy says it answers within one month. The company's 27 August 2026 release note says account exit means "No further charges. Your current period runs out, then nothing renews," and does not address subscriptions billed through Apple or Google Play.
What is the minimum age for Kyndred?
Kyndred's Terms say: "You must be at least 18 years old (or older, if the age of majority where you live is higher). Kyndred is designed for adults and is not suitable for minors." Other labels are about content, not eligibility: the "Meet Maya" page says the ceiling on romantic content is "16+ and tasteful", the App Store shows "Age Rating 13+" and Google Play shows "Teen", and these store labels can be confused with the 18 in the Terms. A separate Kyndred site at kyndred.dev has Terms dated April 2026 that say "You must be at least 16 years old", which differs from the current Terms. Parents who believe a child is using the app can write to [email protected]; the Terms say the company then follows an age-confirmation process.
Can I sue Kyndred in the United States?
Kyndred's Terms (section 15A) say that for users in the United States disputes not resolved informally within 60 days go to "binding individual arbitration" under American Arbitration Association consumer rules, with a waiver of jury trial and class actions; either side may use small-claims court. The Terms say you can opt out by e-mailing [email protected] with the subject "Arbitration opt-out" within 30 days after first accepting them. The Terms are governed by Romanian law, and the company is located in Romania.
Who is behind Kyndred and who invested?
Press reports dated September 29, 2026 (Pulse 2.0, Vestbee, Business Review) say Kyndred was founded in 2026 by Rareș Moșescu and Alex Băraru, previously co-founders of Meditații.ro, and raised €500,000 in pre-seed funding from Early Game Ventures. Kyndred's Privacy Policy lists INFONOWMEDITATII S.R.L. as "our sister company". Funding and customer figures are press reports of company statements, not verified by this site.
Is Kyndred the same as the kyndred.net family app or the businesses named Kindred?
The Kyndred described on this page is the Romanian AI-companion company at getkyndred.com. A different Kyndred, a family-networking app, is at kyndred.net, whose Terms describe it as operated by "the independent individual who operates it". BBB lists unrelated U.S. businesses spelled "Kindred", and Trustpilot lists other similarly spelled names. Kyndred's own contact page gives only the Romanian address for this company.
