Company responses are recorded as "Closed with explanation" (7,120), "Closed with non-monetary relief" (201) and "Closed with monetary relief" (4), so nearly all were closed with an explanation and no relief recorded. These are consumer submissions that the CFPB forwards to the company; the database does not verify them, and this count is separate from complaints published on this site.

Start with Kikoff's own channels. Customer support is at 1-844-741-9275 (live chat and phone, 4am to 7pm PT, per Kikoff's Contact Us page), at [email protected], and in the Kikoff app. Write down the date, the amount and the name of any representative.
Cancel a plan. The Credit Account Agreement says: "You can cancel or close your Account at any time by emailing us at [email protected]" (Section 10). The Terms add that the plan is offered on a twelve-month Plan Term billed monthly, that it renews automatically for successive twelve-month terms unless automatic renewal is turned off before the term ends, and that turning renewal off "does not immediately close your Credit Account or eliminate amounts already due" (Terms, Section 3).

Kikoff's pricing pages say "Cancel anytime," but Section 10 of the agreement also says that after the account is closed you remain obligated to pay all amounts owing under it. The terms do not spell out whether plan fees for the rest of a 12-month term count as amounts owing, so in the cancellation email quote your account number and the date you want the account closed, ask Kikoff to confirm in writing whether any further plan payments will be charged, and keep its reply. Kikoff's FAQ notes that closing an account after making a payment "could negatively affect the average account age" of a credit profile.
Money-back guarantee. Kikoff's disclosures state: "45-day money back guarantee requires completing your cancellation of the Kikoff Credit Service and/or any other Kikoff store item(s) within 45 days, starting from the day of the first purchase ...
More detailShow less
Guarantee is limited to up to one use per person." The FAQ on Kikoff's pricing page adds that you do not get money back after completing a plan because it is "not a credit builder loan."
Billing error on a statement. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act notice in the Credit Account Agreement, write to Kikoff Lending, LLC, 633 Folsom Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94107 within 60 days after the error appeared on your statement, giving your name, Kikoff account number, the dollar amount and why you think it is wrong. The agreement says a phone call alone does not oblige Kikoff to investigate; Kikoff must acknowledge a letter within 30 days and resolve it within 90 days.
Wrong information on a credit report. Section 9 of the Credit Account Agreement tells customers who believe Kikoff reported inaccurate information to send the account number, a description of the error and supporting documents, such as the credit report, to Kikoff Lending, LLC at the San Francisco address on this page. You can also dispute directly with Equifax, Experian or TransUnion, which Kikoff says receive its monthly reports. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act a bureau has 30 days to investigate (up to 45 if you send more information during that time), and once the bureau passes the dispute to Kikoff, Kikoff must investigate it and report the result back.
A payment you did not authorize. Kikoff collects plan payments by debit card or bank account. If a debit was taken without your permission, tell your bank or card issuer as soon as you see it; a phone call counts, and a written follow-up gives you a record. Federal Regulation E limits your liability for unauthorized electronic transfers, but you must report one within 60 days after the bank sends the statement that shows it to avoid liability for later unauthorized transfers. If the charge is a plan payment or renewal you signed up for, turn off renewal or close the account with Kikoff, and to block future automatic debits from a bank account, give your bank a stop-payment order, by phone or in writing, at least three business days before the scheduled payment (the bank may ask you to confirm a phone order in writing within 14 days).
If Kikoff does not resolve it. File a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint, which forwards it to the company for a response. For a wrong credit report entry, send the written dispute to the bureau and to Kikoff first, because that starts the legal investigation deadlines; a CFPB complaint can follow if the answer does not fix it. You can also contact a state regulator. California: the Department of Financial Protection and Innovation at dfpi.ca.gov/file-a-complaint or (866) 275-2677; the Kikoff Terms also give a complaints address, Kikoff Inc., Attn: Complaints, 633 Folsom Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94107, and the Complaint Assistance Unit of the California Department of Consumer Affairs at (916) 445-1254 or (800) 952-5210. New Mexico: the state regulator, the Financial Institutions Division of the Regulation and Licensing Department, at (505) 476-4885, as listed in Kikoff's disclosures. Other states: find your attorney general's consumer protection office or your state financial regulator at usa.gov/state-consumer. You can also contact the BBB, where Kikoff Lending, LLC is accredited, and the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov. Before going to court, read the arbitration terms on this page: the Master Terms require written notice to [email protected] first, and give a 30-day window to opt out of arbitration after you first become subject to it.
Court record: Revell v. Grant Money, LLC and Kikoff Inc. (Grant Cash Advance)
Revell v. Grant Money, LLC (pending). John Revell sued Grant Money, LLC and its corporate parent Kikoff Inc. in San Francisco Superior Court (case CGC-25-626107); the defendants removed the case to the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California on July 16, 2025, where it is No. 3:25-cv-05994. The docket lists the Truth in Lending Act as the cause of action, and the plaintiff seeks to represent a class. An amicus brief filed in the Ninth Circuit by the Center for Responsible Lending and the National Consumer Law Center in support of the plaintiff describes the case as concerning Grant Money's cash advance app, not the Kikoff Credit Account. In August 2025 the defendants moved to send the individual claims to arbitration and to strike the class claims; the district court denied that motion (written order of November 5, 2025). The defendants appealed to the Ninth Circuit (No. 25-7035), and the district court has stayed the case while the appeal is decided. The Ninth Circuit has scheduled oral argument for November 16, 2026, in San Francisco and has not issued a decision. The docket shows no ruling on the merits and no settlement; the claims remain allegations.

Other federal cases. CourtListener lists about 20 other federal cases since 2022 in which Kikoff Inc. or Kikoff Lending, LLC is a named party, mostly brought by individual consumers. Chime Financial, Inc. sued Kikoff Inc. in the Northern District of California in February 2025 (No. 3:25-cv-01559) under federal trademark law; Chime filed a notice of voluntary dismissal on April 3, 2026, and the case was closed.
Arbitration terms that apply to Kikoff customers. The Master Terms (Section 17, "Dispute Resolution by Binding Arbitration; Jury Trial & Class Action Waiver") send disputes to binding arbitration administered by National Arbitration & Mediation (NAM), with a carve-out for small claims court. They include a class action waiver and a jury trial waiver, a requirement to send written notice to [email protected] and allow 60 days for informal resolution first, a one-year deadline for claims, and a right to opt out: a written notice to [email protected] within 30 days after first becoming subject to the arbitration agreement, with name, email address, mailing address, account number and an unequivocal statement that you opt out. The Master Terms also say the arbitration agreement does not apply to any claim that the Military Lending Act prohibits from arbitration, and the Credit Account Agreement says covered borrowers' arbitration provisions do not apply. Governing law is stated differently in two places: California law in Master Terms Section 15, and federal law and Delaware law in the Credit Account Agreement (Section 12).

Who Kikoff is: Kikoff Inc., Kikoff Lending, LLC and the Kikoff Credit Account
Operator. Kikoff's Master Terms state that "Kikoff Inc., a Delaware corporation" owns and operates kikoff.com and related apps, together with subsidiaries and affiliates that include Grant Money, LLC (the Grant Cash Advance app), Kikoff Lending, LLC and Revive Solutions, LLC, all Delaware limited liability companies. The footer of kikoff.com lists "Kikoff Inc NMLS ID# 1930930." Kikoff's About page names Cynthia Chen as CEO and founder, and Kikoff's FAQ says it has helped more than one million people build credit. The BBB file for Kikoff Lending, LLC gives 2019 as the year the business started.
Who is the lender. The Kikoff Credit Account Agreement says the account is "with Kikoff Lending, LLC" and that "we" and "us" refer to Kikoff Lending, LLC. Kikoff Inc. is the party whose Terms of Service the customer accepts and whose website runs the product. Kikoff's disclosures also say: "Kikoff Inc. is a financial technology company 'Fin-Tech', not a bank. Banking Services provided by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC." The FAQ on Kikoff's pricing page says a separate Kikoff Secured Credit Card was offered in the past and is no longer offered.
More company historyShow less
How the product works. The Credit Account is a revolving line of credit called a Kikoff tradeline. Kikoff's FAQ says it is "not a credit card or traditional loan" and is "intended exclusively for credit-building": each month the customer uses it to finance the cost of a Kikoff plan and repays Kikoff with a debit card or bank account. Plans on Kikoff's pricing page are Basic ($5 per month, $750 reported tradeline), Premium ($20 per month, $2,500) and Ultimate ($35 per month, $3,500, with identity theft insurance); the agreement's minimum payments match those amounts. Each plan runs for a 12-month term billed monthly; Kikoff's disclosures put the Basic plan at $60 for the 12 months. Kikoff's site says there is no credit check to sign up, a 0.00% APR and no late fee, annual fee or returned-payment fee; the agreement adds that a fee may apply for payments made over the phone with a representative, disclosed before the payment, and that late payments may still be reported to consumer reporting agencies.
Credit reporting. Kikoff's FAQ states that it is "an official data furnisher to the 3 major credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion." The same FAQ page gives two timing statements: that it reports accounts "at the start of every month" and, in another answer, that it reports payments "at the end of every month," with activity taking up to six weeks to appear on a report. Rent reporting goes to Equifax and TransUnion; Kikoff lists a $50 one-time fee to report up to two years of prior rent payments. Kikoff says results vary and are not guaranteed; its published disclosures describe score changes for customers who started below 600 and kept paying on time, and they warn that late or missed payments may hurt a score.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel Kikoff?
The Credit Account Agreement says you can cancel or close the account at any time by emailing [email protected]. The plan renews automatically for successive twelve-month terms unless automatic renewal is turned off in account settings before the term ends, and turning it off does not close the account or cancel amounts already due (Terms, Section 3). After closing, you remain obligated to pay all amounts owing under the agreement (Section 10), so ask Kikoff in your cancellation email to confirm in writing whether any further plan payments will be charged.
Does Kikoff give refunds?
Kikoff's disclosures describe a 45-day money-back guarantee that requires completing the cancellation within 45 days of the first purchase, limited to one use per person. The FAQ on Kikoff's pricing page (kikoff.com/pricing) adds that you do not get money back after completing a plan. Closing the account later does not by itself end what you owe: the Credit Account Agreement says amounts owing remain payable after the account is closed.
Which credit bureaus does Kikoff report to?
Kikoff says it is a data furnisher to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion, and that its rent reporting goes to Equifax and TransUnion. Kikoff's FAQ says activity can take up to six weeks to appear on a credit report.
Does Kikoff charge interest or late fees?
The Credit Account Agreement lists a 0.00% APR, no annual fee, a $0.00 late payment fee and a $0.00 returned payment fee. It also says late payments may be reported to consumer reporting agencies and that a fee may apply to phone payments, disclosed beforehand. Kikoff's site notes that your bank may charge fees when it debits your account.
Is the Kikoff Credit Account a credit card?
Kikoff's FAQ says the Kikoff tradeline is not a credit card or traditional loan but a revolving line of credit intended exclusively for credit-building, used to finance the monthly Kikoff plan. The FAQ on Kikoff's pricing page (kikoff.com/pricing) says a separate Kikoff Secured Credit Card was offered in the past and is no longer offered.
How do I dispute a Kikoff charge or an error Kikoff reported?
Write to Kikoff Lending, LLC, 633 Folsom Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94107. How many CFPB complaints name Kikoff?
The CFPB Consumer Complaint Database lists 7,325 complaints under the name Kikoff Inc., 3,591 of them received in the most recent 12 months. The CFPB does not verify the accounts consumers submit.
Can I sue Kikoff or join a class action?
Kikoff's Master Terms require individual arbitration administered by NAM, include a class action waiver, and allow small claims court. A customer can opt out of arbitration by emailing [email protected] within 30 days after first becoming subject to it. The arbitration clause does not apply to claims that the Military Lending Act keeps out of arbitration. A proposed class action under the Truth in Lending Act, Revell v. Grant Money, LLC, names Grant Money, LLC and its parent Kikoff Inc. as defendants; an amicus brief filed in the Ninth Circuit describes it as concerning Grant Money's cash advance app. The case is pending in the Northern District of California and is on hold while the Ninth Circuit hears the defendants' appeal of the order denying arbitration; oral argument is set for November 16, 2026.
