IGS Energy: cancelling, variable rates, rescission and where to complain (checked October 6, 2026)

IGS Energy's own subpages (contact, terms, FAQ) could not be opened by the tools used for this page on October 6, 2026, so the contract terms below come from one sample IGS agreement and from regulator pages. Your own agreement and its Term Box control what applies to you.

What one IGS agreement says. The sample is an Ohio residential electric agreement (form V0223, an offer for ZIP 43402 in the FirstEnergy utilities' area), published on igs.com's API host. Its Term Box shows a fixed rate for a stated initial term and says the agreement then renews month to month at a variable price. The text says that during renewal terms "Your price may change monthly, up or down," based on costs including energy, transmission and capacity "plus IGS Energy costs, expenses and margins," that IGS "reserves the right to make changes to the terms of this Agreement, including price," and that notice of changes will be given "at least 30 days prior" to taking effect.

Rescission and early termination (same sample). A new customer may rescind "with no Early Termination Fee" by contacting the utility in writing or by telephone within 7 calendar days of the post mark date of the utility's confirmation notice. After that, the customer may cancel "subject to any applicable Termination Fee described in the Term Box" by giving notice to IGS, and the text adds that notices given after the rescission period "may result in additional month(s) of service" at the initial price. Other states, products (gas, solar, home repair plans) and offers use other forms, so read the one you signed.

  • Contact IGS. The website states 877.995.4447. The sample agreement names Customer Care at 800.280.4474 (weekdays 8am to 8pm and Saturdays 9am to 3pm Eastern), P.O. Box 9060, Dublin, OH 43017, and [email protected].
  • If unresolved in Ohio. The sample agreement points customers to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) at 800.686.7826, and PUCO's online complaint form (opened October 6, 2026) offers Electric and Gas as industries; the form is described as beginning an informal complaint with the PUCO Call Center. The agreement also names the Ohio Consumers' Counsel at 877.742.5622.
  • Supplier switched without your knowledge. The switch is processed through your local utility, so the utility's customer service and your state commission are the usual places to ask what authorization was recorded. Keep the mailed notices and bills.
  • Billing, deposits and disconnection (same sample). The agreement says you receive one bill from the utility containing IGS's supply charges plus the utility's delivery and other charges, and that if you fail to pay the utility invoice, which includes IGS charges, "the EDC may disconnect Your service, according to tariff guidelines."
  • Moving (same sample). The agreement says it "will automatically terminate, without penalty," if you relocate outside the utility's service territory, or relocate within it and the utility assigns a new account number or Service Delivery Identifier.
  • Pennsylvania. The PUC's e-filing page (opened October 6, 2026) says the Bureau of Consumer Services can be reached at 1-800-692-7380 to file an informal complaint by telephone or electronically.
  • Other states. Use your own state utility commission. A 2023 Pennsylvania PUC initial decision in a customer's complaint states that the Commission "does not have jurisdiction to regulate the rates charged by" a natural gas supplier "or to order a refund of unreasonable rates," so a dispute about a supplier's price may not be one that commission can adjust.

Regulator actions and proceedings involving IGS Energy

In the sources checked on October 6, 2026 (PUCO's news page for retail-supplier investigations, the Pennsylvania PUC decision below, court dockets and press releases found by search), no PUCO, Pennsylvania PUC or state attorney general enforcement order or settlement naming IGS Energy as the respondent was identified. PUCO's December 3, 2025 orders on two other suppliers (Major Energy Services and Eligo Energy OH) show that such orders exist for other companies; they do not concern IGS. Illinois Commerce Commission enforcement records were not successfully checked, so this statement does not cover Illinois.

Pennsylvania PUC, Docket C-2023-3037638 (customer complaint). In an Initial Decision dated September 10, 2023, an administrative law judge dismissed a customer's formal complaint against Peoples Natural Gas Company LLC and Interstate Gas Supply, d/b/a IGS Energy. The customer alleged his gas supplier was switched from Dominion Energy to IGS without permission or notice and that he was charged a higher variable rate in place of a prior fixed rate. The decision records that IGS became his supplier in August 2022 after a letter of April 11, 2022 about the change from Dominion Energy Solutions to IGS, finds the customer "failed to meet the burden of proving" IGS did not provide reasonable and adequate service in giving that notice, and orders both complaints "denied." I did not check whether exceptions were later filed. This is a customer-specific ruling on its own evidence, not a finding about IGS's practices generally.

Who is IGS Energy

IGS Energy is the trade name of Interstate Gas Supply, LLC: IGS's sample Ohio agreement names Interstate Gas Supply, LLC, and the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities active-supplier list dated September 15, 2026 shows "Interstate Gas Supply, LLC" as "IGS Energy," Active. The Pennsylvania court and PUC documents cited on this page use the name Interstate Gas Supply, Inc., so check the entity named on your own contract. BBB lists the headquarters as 6100 Emerald Pkwy, Dublin, Ohio 43016-3248, a business start and incorporation date of August 9, 1989 (BBB-reported), and the alternate names IGS Solar, IGS Generation and IGS CNG Services.

Its website (opened October 6, 2026) offers residential electricity and natural gas plans, rooftop and community solar and home repair plans, and for businesses electricity, natural gas, solar, lighting, compressed natural gas and demand response. The company says on its site, "We're one of the largest energy retailers in the U.S." This is a retail supplier: your utility still delivers the energy and sends the bill, while the supplier sets the commodity price under the contract.

The Pennsylvania PUC decision above records that in 2022 IGS completed its acquisition of Dominion Energy (Dominion Energy Solutions LLC) and that customers' supply contracts were assigned to IGS; customers of acquired suppliers may therefore hold an IGS contract they did not originally sign with IGS.

Complaint record: our archive and outside profiles (as displayed 2026-10-06)

Posts on this site. Three approved posts name IGS Energy in the offender field: one from January 2008, one from March 2009 and one from September 2011. They are individual allegations, not findings. The 2008 post describes an offer of a fixed gas rate and a first bill of $13.47 followed by a bill of $127.00, with the author saying a distribution charge was not explained. The 2009 post describes a gas bill of nearly $600 after a lower-price promise and says the rate was higher than the utility's. The 2011 post alleges IGS switched the author's gas supply without consent twice and says a PUCO complaint was filed. No other post was linked to this page; posts about other businesses abbreviated "IGS" were excluded.

BBB. BBB profile for IGS Energy, Dublin, OH: rating A+, BBB Accredited; 188 total complaints in the last 3 years and 48 closed in the last 12 months; 1.23/5 from an average of 133 customer reviews. BBB's displayed complaints include some that name IGS Solar.

Trustpilot. 4.4 out of 5 from 29,520 reviews; the profile is claimed (since July 2018, paid subscription), and Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews.

ComplaintsBoard. 25 complaints (7 labelled resolved, 18 unresolved on that site), dated February 2009 to January 2026, and one 2.1 rating. Several describe door-to-door or phone sales, rates later higher than expected and early termination fees; these are user posts.

These counts come from different sites with different methods and are not combined here. The CFPB complaint database covers financial products and does not apply to an energy supplier.

Court record

A case IGS brought. IGS joined NRG Energy and Shipley Choice as petitioners against the Pennsylvania PUC over whether electric utilities may offer "on-bill billing" for their own non-commodity services while denying it to suppliers. This is a business dispute about utility billing, not a consumer complaint. The Commonwealth Court affirmed the Commission on April 28, 2023 (No. 472 C.D. 2022), and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania affirmed on September 25, 2025 (No. 10 MAP 2024).

Consumer suits. In the sources checked on October 6, 2026, no filed consumer class action naming IGS Energy was identified. A law firm page (Tycko & Zavareei LLP) describes an "investigation" into IGS pricing and billing and invites customers to contact it; it names no filed case, so it is not a lawsuit or a finding. Court-docket searches by the CourtListener API were rate-limited during this check, so docket coverage is incomplete.

Is IGS Energy Legitimate?

IGS Energy is a Dublin, Ohio retail energy supplier that BBB reports has operated since 1989 and that is BBB Accredited with an A+ rating, as displayed on October 6, 2026. It is a party named in Pennsylvania PUC and Pennsylvania court records under the name Interstate Gas Supply, Inc. d/b/a IGS Energy; the New Jersey BPU active-supplier list and IGS's sample Ohio agreement name Interstate Gas Supply, LLC. Its BBB complaint count (188 in three years) and review score (1.23/5) sit alongside a 4.4/5 Trustpilot score from 29,520 reviews, and the sources measure different things. No regulator order against IGS Energy was identified in the sources checked. Contracts, rates and cancellation fees differ by state and offer, so the Term Box and agreement you signed are the controlling documents. To confirm a supplier is licensed where you live, use your state utility commission's supplier list.

The suppliers petitioned for review of PUC orders holding that electric distribution companies did not act in an unreasonably discriminatory way by offering "on-bill billing" for their own non-commodity goods and services but not for the suppliers'. The Commonwealth Court affirmed the PUC in full on April 28, 2023, and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania affirmed the Commonwealth Court in an opinion decided September 25, 2025. This is a business dispute brought by IGS, not a consumer case.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I cancel IGS Energy?

IGS's sample Ohio electric agreement says a new customer can rescind with no early termination fee by contacting the utility within 7 calendar days of the post mark date of the utility's confirmation notice, and that after that a cancellation is subject to any termination fee shown in the Term Box, by notice to IGS. Notices given after rescission may lead to additional months of service at the initial price. Contact points in that agreement: Customer Care 800.280.4474, P.O. Box 9060, Dublin, OH 43017, [email protected]. Other states and products use other forms.

What does IGS Energy's agreement say about variable rates?

In the sample Ohio agreement, a fixed initial price is followed by automatic renewal month to month at a monthly variable price based on costs including energy, transmission and capacity plus IGS costs, expenses and margins. The text says IGS may change terms, including price, for any renewal term with at least 30 days' notice. Check the Term Box of your own agreement for the exact initial price, term and renewal.

How much is the IGS Energy early termination fee?

The amount is set in each agreement's Term Box and varies by offer. The sample Ohio electric agreement shows $199 for its 36-month initial term at a base fixed rate of $0.1399 per kWh; that is one example and not a general fee. Complaints on ComplaintsBoard mention fees between $99 and $225 for other customers; those are user statements.

Why did I become an IGS Energy customer after Dominion Energy Solutions?

The Pennsylvania PUC Initial Decision C-2023-3037638 records that IGS completed its acquisition of Dominion Energy in 2022 and that a customer's supply contract was assigned to IGS, with Dominion sending a notice dated April 11, 2022 and IGS becoming supplier at the August 2022 meter read. The decision also notes that the customer's fixed-rate contract became a variable rate when IGS became supplier. Whether the same applies to you depends on your own notice and contract.

Where can I complain about IGS Energy?

First contact IGS (877.995.4447 on its website, or the Customer Care line in your agreement). In Ohio, PUCO accepts informal complaints online for Electric and Gas, and the Ohio Consumers' Counsel (877.742.5622 as printed in the sample agreement) represents residential customers. In Pennsylvania, the PUC's e-filing page says the Bureau of Consumer Services can be reached at 1-800-692-7380 to file an informal complaint by telephone or electronically. The Ohio Attorney General's site offers a consumer complaint form (opened October 6, 2026). Elsewhere use your state utility commission or attorney general. BBB also accepts complaints on its IGS Energy profile.

What is IGS Energy's BBB rating?

As displayed on October 6, 2026, BBB shows IGS Energy of Dublin, OH as A+ and BBB Accredited, with 188 total complaints in the last 3 years, 48 closed in the last 12 months, and 1.23/5 from an average of 133 customer reviews. BBB's rating reflects its own method, which includes how complaints are handled.

Has IGS Energy been sued or fined?

In the sources checked on October 6, 2026, no consumer class action naming IGS Energy and no regulator enforcement order against it were identified. A Pennsylvania appellate case in which IGS was a petitioner (about utility on-bill billing) ended with the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania affirming the PUC on September 25, 2025. A law firm page describes an investigation but no filed case. Illinois Commerce Commission records were not successfully checked.
