Hatch Reviews, Complaints & Contacts

Hatch (legal entity Hatch Baby, Inc., Palo Alto, California) makes sleep devices for babies, children and adults, including the Rest sound machines, the Restore and Hatch Sleep Clock bedside clocks, Hatch Baby and Hatch Go, and sells the paid Hatch+ audio membership. In July 2024 it recalled about 919,400 power adapters sold with Rest 1st Generation machines because the adapter housing can come off and expose the prongs. Hatch.co accepts returns within 30 days of the ship date, new devices carry a one-year limited warranty, Hatch+ renews automatically after the free trial, and for U.S. residents the Terms of Service call for individual arbitration of most disputes, with a small-claims option.

Disputes under the Terms of Service (last updated August 4, 2026). Section 10, the arbitration section, states that it applies to individuals residing in the United States.

  • Section 10.1 requires "final and binding individual arbitration" before a JAMS arbitrator instead of a court, and states that "class arbitration and class actions are not permitted." Either side may instead take an individual claim to small claims court. Claims for personal bodily injury and intellectual-property claims are excluded from the arbitration clause.
  • Before arbitration, section 10.1 requires a signed written notice of the dispute sent to Hatch Baby, Inc., Attn: Legal Department, at the address on this page, followed by a 60-day period to try to resolve it.
  • Section 10.2 waives a jury trial and the right to bring or join a class action, while keeping the right to take part in a class-wide settlement.
  • The "Changes to Arbitration Agreement" paragraph of section 10.1 lets you reject a later change to the arbitration agreement by written notice to the Legal Department, with your name and email address, within 30 days of the change taking effect.

Rest 1st Generation Power Adapter Recall: What to Do

If you own a first-generation Hatch Rest, check the power adapter before anything else.

  • Which adapters. Model number CYAP05 050100U. Hatch's recall page says the recalled adapters have "no date code under the Made in China print"; a 2nd generation adapter has a four-digit date code in that spot. Rest 2nd Generation machines are not part of the recall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
  • The hazard. The white plastic housing of the adapter can come off when it is pulled from the outlet, leaving the power prongs exposed (shock hazard).
  • Steps the CPSC gives. Stop using the recalled adapter immediately. Unplug it, cut its cord, take a photo showing the model number, all the printing on the adapter and the cut cord, then upload the photo with your name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall to receive a free replacement power adapter.
  • The device itself. Hatch's recall page says the recall covers only the adapter, not the sound machine, and that the Rest 1st generation device is safe to keep using once a replacement adapter is issued.
  • Recall contacts. Hatch Baby's recall line 888-918-4614 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, Monday to Friday), email [email protected], or the "Recall" link at the bottom of hatch.co.
  • If the replacement does not arrive or someone was hurt. Report it to the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov or on the CPSC hotline, 800-638-2772. A claim for personal bodily injury is excluded from the arbitration clause in Hatch's Terms of Service.

Returns, Trial and Warranty

Returns on hatch.co. The Hatch FAQ says you can "initiate a return or exchange on the Hatch website within 30 days of your ship date," for products bought directly from Hatch and, if possible, in the original packaging. Only Restore 3 and Hatch Go can be exchanged, and only for a different color of the same product. Section 8.6 of the Terms of Service says to start a refund return at shop.hatch.co/apps/returns, and adds that you carry the risk of loss or damage in return shipping, and that Hatch does not refund products damaged by misuse or accident or repeat refund requests on the same product. For a purchase from Amazon, Target, Best Buy or another store, follow that store's return rules.

Refurbished units. Hatch's refurbished page says renewed devices come with free returns and a 30-night risk-free guarantee.

Warranty. Under section 9.1 of the Terms, a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship covers the original purchaser of a new or certified refurbished product bought from Hatch or an authorized reseller. The year runs from the date the device is registered in the Hatch app; for the non-connected Rest Go a proof of purchase with the date is required. Products from unauthorized resellers are not covered, and the warranty excludes normal wear, misuse, drops, water damage and use of a power cord not made by Hatch. In the United States, a claim must be opened with Hatch Customer Support at hatch.co/support within one year of purchase. Registration in the app usually happens after purchase, so the purchase date is the deadline to watch; keep the receipt.

Hatch provides a return shipping label, and the replacement may be a refurbished unit. Customers outside the United States also open a claim through hatch.co/support for a new item bought from Hatch or an authorized reseller; buyers of refurbished items from resellers outside the United States go to the seller, and any import duty or tax on a replacement is the customer's.

Contact. Hatch's contact page lists (888) 918-4614 and a help-center message form.

Hatch+ Membership: Billing and Cancellation

What it costs. Hatch+ is the company's paid audio membership (alarms, meditations, sleep music, audiobooks and podcasts). A subscription is not needed to use a Hatch device. The membership page lists Hatch+ at $5.99 a month and says the first month is free; you activate it when you set up a Hatch Sleep Clock or Restore. The Hatch FAQ says the Sleep Clock comes with a free 30-day Hatch+ trial and that Hatch Baby includes three months of expert sleep support and premium content.

When billing starts. Section 8.2 of the Terms of Service (last updated August 4, 2026) says that when a free trial expires you "will be enrolled in and billed for a monthly or annual subscription unless you cancel before the free trial period ends." Under section 8.3 the plan then renews automatically each month or year until you or Hatch cancel it.

How to cancel.

  • Bought through Hatch: log in at hatch.co/my-hatch or contact support at hatch.co/support. Section 8.3 says you must cancel "by the end of the last day of your subscription term" to avoid the next charge.
  • Bought through the Apple App Store or Google Play: cancel in that store's subscription settings; the Terms say those subscriptions are managed only there.
  • Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current month or year, and you keep access until then. To the extent the law allows, section 8.3 says you get no refund of fees already paid and no prorated refund.

If you were charged after cancelling. First check the dates. Under section 8.3 a cancellation takes effect only at the end of the term already paid for, so a renewal charge made before you cancelled is not refunded under the Terms. A charge for a new term after you cancelled in time is a billing error.

  • Write to Hatch support at hatch.co/support and attach the cancellation confirmation email or screenshot, the date you cancelled, the date and amount of the charge, and the email address on your Hatch account.
  • If Hatch does not fix it, dispute the charge with your card issuer. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act a written billing-error dispute must reach the issuer within 60 days after the statement showing the charge was sent. A debit card falls under a different law, the Electronic Fund Transfer Act: tell your bank within 60 days after the statement showing the charge was sent.
  • For a subscription bought through Apple or Google, request the refund from that store; Hatch cannot manage those subscriptions.
  • File a complaint with your state attorney general (in California, at oag.ca.gov) and report the problem to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
More detailShow less

Section 8.3 also says that by starting a premium subscription you acknowledge losing "any applicable statutory cancellation rights." That is the company's wording; whether it limits a right under a particular state's law is for a court or regulator to decide. California's Automatic Renewal Law (Business and Professions Code section 17600 and following), for example, requires a business that sells an automatically renewing subscription to a California consumer online to let that consumer cancel online.

CPSC Recall 24-291 (July 2024)

On July 3, 2024 the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that Hatch Baby, Inc. was voluntarily recalling the AC power adapters sold with some Rest 1st Generation sound machines (recall number 24-291). The recall was issued together with Health Canada. The CPSC lists the importer as Hatch Baby Inc. of Palo Alto, California, and the country of manufacture as China; the adapters carry the printed name Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co. LTD. Hatch says it no longer sources adapters from that maker.

More on regulatorsShow less
  • Hazard: the plastic housing around the adapter can come off when it is pulled from the outlet, leaving the power prongs exposed and posing a shock hazard.
  • Units: about 919,400 in the United States, plus about 44,352 sold in Canada. The adapter was not sold separately.
  • Reports: the company had received 19 reports of the housing coming off, including two reports of consumers who had a minor electrical shock.
  • Sold: online at Hatch.co and Amazon.com and in BuyBuyBaby, Target, Walmart, Nordstrom, Pottery Barn Kids and Best Buy stores from January 2019 through September 2022 for $60 to $70 with certain Rest 1st Generation machines, and on Amazon.com from January 2019 through May 2024 for $60 to $200.
  • Remedy: a free replacement power adapter. Hatch said it would contact all registered owners directly.

Consumer Class Actions Over the Adapter

Two consumers filed three proposed class actions over the recalled Rest 1st Generation adapter in 2024. All three cases are closed: each ended in a dismissal without prejudice, with no class certified, no settlement shown on the docket and no court ruling on whether the claims were true. The claims remain allegations.

More on the lawsuitsShow less
  • Durst v. Hatch Baby, Inc., U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, No. 2:24-cv-06307, filed July 25, 2024. The complaint alleged that the adapter housing can come off in the outlet and expose the prongs, and pleaded warranty, fraudulent concealment, strict liability, negligence and California Unfair Competition Law claims. On August 14, 2024 the court dismissed the case without prejudice for lack of prosecution, after the plaintiff did not respond to an order to show cause.
  • Durst v. Hatch Baby, Inc., U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, No. 5:24-cv-05998, filed August 26, 2024 by the same plaintiff. He filed a notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice on October 16, 2024.
  • Bott v. Hatch Baby, Inc., U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, No. 2:24-cv-07135, filed October 10, 2024 by Tracy Bott. As reported by Top Class Actions, the complaint alleged that Hatch's safety-focused advertising misled buyers about the adapter, proposed a nationwide class of buyers of the Rest sound machine and a New York subclass, and pleaded New York consumer-protection and false-advertising law and breach of implied warranty. Hatch asked the court for a pre-motion conference on December 13, 2024; the plaintiff filed a notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice on January 17, 2025, and the case was closed on January 21, 2025.

A dismissal without prejudice means the claims could in principle be brought again. The recall remedy, a free replacement adapter from Hatch, does not depend on any lawsuit. Hatch's Terms of Service also contain an arbitration clause and a class-action waiver (see Company Information).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Hatch Rest recalled?

Only the power adapter sold with some Rest 1st Generation sound machines (model CYAP05 050100U, no date code under the Made in China print) was recalled, in CPSC recall 24-291 of July 3, 2024. Rest 2nd Generation machines are not covered. The sound machine itself is not recalled: Hatch says it is safe to keep using once you have a replacement adapter, which is free through hatch.co/adapterrecall.

How do I get a replacement Hatch Rest adapter?

Stop using the recalled adapter, unplug it and cut its cord. Photograph the adapter so the model number and all printing show, together with the cut cord, and upload the photo with your name and mailing address at www.hatch.co/adapterrecall. The replacement is free. For help, call 888-918-4614 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT, Monday to Friday) or email [email protected], the contacts listed in the CPSC notice.

What is Hatch's return policy?

Hatch's FAQ says returns and exchanges can be started on hatch.co within 30 days of the ship date, for products bought directly from Hatch; the Terms of Service point refund returns to shop.hatch.co/apps/returns. Purchases from other retailers follow that retailer's rules. Only Restore 3 and Hatch Go can be exchanged, for a different color of the same product. Refurbished units come with free returns and a 30-night risk-free guarantee, according to Hatch's refurbished page.

How do I cancel Hatch+?

If you subscribed through Hatch, log in at hatch.co/my-hatch or contact support at hatch.co/support; if you subscribed through the Apple App Store or Google Play, cancel in that store. Section 8.3 of the Terms of Service says to cancel by the end of the last day of the term to avoid the next charge. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current month or year, you keep access until then, and, to the extent the law allows, fees already paid are not refunded.

Does Hatch+ have a free trial?

Hatch's membership page says the first month is free, then $5.99 a month, and the FAQ says the Hatch Sleep Clock includes a free 30-day trial. Section 8.2 of the Terms says that when the trial ends you are enrolled in and billed for a monthly or annual subscription unless you cancel before the trial period ends.

How long is the Hatch warranty?

One year. Section 9.1 of the Terms of Service gives the original purchaser of a new or certified refurbished Hatch product, bought from Hatch or an authorized reseller, a one-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, counted from the date the device is registered in the Hatch app. In the United States, open a claim at hatch.co/support within one year of purchase; since that date usually comes before registration, use it as your deadline and keep the receipt. Outside the United States, claims are also opened through hatch.co/support. Wear and tear, misuse, drops, water damage and use of a non-Hatch power cord are not covered.

Can I sue Hatch in court?

Hatch's Terms of Service send most disputes of U.S. residents to individual JAMS arbitration instead of court. Either side may still take an individual claim to small claims court, and claims for personal bodily injury and intellectual-property claims are excluded from arbitration. Section 10.2 waives a jury trial and class actions. Before arbitrating you must send Hatch's Legal Department a signed written notice and allow 60 days to resolve it. Whether a particular clause can be enforced against you is for a court to decide; a consumer lawyer or legal aid office can advise on your case. The 2024 proposed class actions over the Rest adapter (Durst in California, Bott in New York) were all dismissed without prejudice, with no ruling on the merits.

How do I contact Hatch?

Hatch's contact page lists (888) 918-4614 and a help-center message form; the mailing address is Hatch Baby, Inc., 3790 El Camino Real, Unit #627, Palo Alto, CA 94306. For a recall, use [email protected].
