Security incidents Granola itself published. The Help Center publishes three post-mortems, all describing 2025 events:
- AssemblyAI API key exposure. Granola says an API key for a transcription vendor was exposed in an early version of its beta iOS TestFlight app, affecting transcripts of 333 beta testers; the key was revoked on 11 March 2025 after a Tenable researcher reported it (Tenable advisory TRA-2025-07). Granola says its investigation found no instances of user data breach apart from a roughly 12-minute window that matched Tenable's controlled testing, which touched 29 transcriptions from 16 external beta testers, and that it notified all 333 testers on 16 May 2025.
- Legacy unmanaged Google accounts and workspace auto-join. Granola says that until 23 May 2025 its auto-join relied on email-domain matching alone; the issue was reported on 16 May 2025, and it says its investigation "confirmed that no other workspaces contained unmanaged accounts and that no data was accessed outside the reporting customer's workspace".
- Google Workspace session logout. Granola says 187 users who were removed from or deleted in their Google Workspace could keep access to existing sessions; fixes shipped on 28 May and 2 June 2025.
Tenable's advisory describes the exposure differently: it says the key was returned by an unauthenticated feature-flags API endpoint referenced in the Mac app, and records Granola's later statement (13 May 2025) that the exposure was limited to about 300 users alpha-testing a new iOS application; the advisory timeline shows disclosure-contact requests on 18 and 26 February 2025, and Granola's post-mortem says "We missed Tenable's initial email". The post-mortems are the company's own accounts; they were not independently verified.

Submit a ComplaintGranola complaints: cancel, billing, privacy settings and where to complain
This page was checked on 2026-10-21 against Granola's own Help Center, its User Terms of Service and Platform Terms of Service, and the public records named on this page. Granola, Inc. is the legal entity named in its terms. No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.
- Cancel a paid plan. The Help Center says: "You can cancel your Granola subscription at any time" and that the subscription "will continue until the end of the current billing cycle".
More detailShow less
Path given: click your workspace name in the bottom-left corner, then Settings, then Billing, then Manage subscription (opens Stripe's billing portal), then Cancel subscription. A web route is also given for people without the app. If you cannot access the account at all, the page gives [email protected].
- After cancelling or a trial ending. The Help Center says the workspace moves to the Basic (free) plan and "You will not be charged". It also says Basic shows only the last 30 days of notes in the app; older notes are stored but not accessible until you upgrade, and a CSV export of titles and summaries is available from Settings, then Profile.
- Trials. The billing page says that when a time-limited Business or Enterprise trial ends you either subscribe ("you'll be charged") or are moved to Basic, and that Granola sends an email before the trial ends.
- Refunds, what the published texts say. The Platform Terms (version dated 19 December 2025), section 7.1, say: "Except as otherwise specified herein", "payment obligations are non-cancelable and Fees are due and payable upfront and payments are non-refundable". Section 10.4 says that if the agreement is terminated for cause by the customer under section 10.3, Granola "will refund Customer any prepaid Fees covering the remainder of the term". Section 7.4 says an invoice dispute must be notified in writing "within fifteen (15) days of receipt of such invoice", and section 7.1 says each partial month of a subscription counts as a whole month. Section 10.2 says subscriptions renew for successive one-year terms unless an Order Form says otherwise, and a non-renewal notice must be given at least thirty days before the end of the term. The Help Center says Business is billed monthly and annual billing is for Enterprise contracts only. In the Help Center index and the pages opened on 2026-10-21, no separate consumer refund-policy page was identified; the pages did say tax already charged is not refunded and that seat changes are prorated through credit and charge lines on the next invoice.

This page does not decide which text applies to a given purchase. Keep your invoice and write to [email protected] promptly.
- Seats and invoices. The Help Center says billing is per workspace and per active seat, that pending invitations are not billed, and that adding or removing members creates paired credit and charge lines ("Unused time" and "Remaining time") on the next invoice. It also says removing a member does not remove that person's payment method from the subscription.
- Privacy choices. The Help Center says the toggle "Use my data to improve models for everyone" is under Settings, then Preferences, and that turning it off stops use of your data to improve Granola's models.
More detailShow less
Link sharing defaults are set under Settings, Preferences, Data & sharing, where the page lists the options 'Anyone with the link', 'Only my company' and 'Private'. Check both settings if you are concerned about who can see your notes.
- Delete your account. Settings, then Profile, then Delete my account. The Help Center says this "will permanently remove your account and all associated data" and cannot be undone; export first if you need your notes.
- If you are not a Granola user but were in a meeting where someone used it. Granola's published guidance ("Always get consent when transcribing others") tells users to make sure participants know. Questions about your own data can go to [email protected], and the Privacy Policy lists rights requests there.
- Escalation. If a charge is not resolved, you can dispute it with your card issuer or contact your state attorney general's consumer protection office.

What is alleged. The complaint filed 30 July 2026 is a proposed class action by Tarra Chamberlain, a Florida resident who says Granola was present in a Microsoft Teams or Zoom meeting she joined without her knowledge. It alleges that Granola records and transcribes meeting participants who are not told and have not consented, and that by default meeting content is used to train Granola's AI, a setting only Granola users can turn off. It pleads seven claims: intrusion upon seclusion, the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act, California Penal Code sections 631 and 632 (California Invasion of Privacy Act), the California Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act, the California Unfair Competition Law, and unjust enrichment. It seeks to represent a nationwide class and a California subclass and asks for damages and injunctive relief. These are allegations; no court has made findings.
Where it stands. The docket (checked newest first on 2026-10-21) shows Granola, Inc. served on 5 August 2026, a joint stipulation filed 20 August 2026 to extend the defendants' deadline to respond, and an earlier read of the CourtListener docket listed an amended complaint filed 19 October 2026 (entry 33). On 2026-10-21 the CourtListener docket was behind a human-verification page and the Justia docket showed entries only through the 20 August 2026 stipulation, so that entry could not be re-checked and its contents were not read. The current claims and parties may differ from the original complaint described on this page. The docket entries show no ruling on the merits.
Granola's position. No court filing by Granola addressing the allegations was opened. The company's published guidance is described in the company background section.

Proposed consumer class action against Granola, Inc. and Granola Labs Ltd. (cause code 28:1332, jury demand by plaintiff). The complaint alleges that Granola records and transcribes meeting participants without their knowledge or consent and uses the content for AI training by default, and pleads intrusion upon seclusion, ECPA, California Penal Code sections 631 and 632, the California CDAFA, the UCL and unjust enrichment on behalf of a nationwide class and a California subclass. The docket shows service on Granola, Inc. on August 5, 2026, a stipulation to extend the response deadline filed August 20, 2026, and, per an earlier CourtListener read that could not be re-checked on 2026-10-21, an amended complaint filed October 19, 2026 (entry 33), whose contents were not read. No ruling on the merits appears in the entries read.
Who runs Granola
Granola is an AI notepad for meetings. According to the Help Center, it captures a meeting on the user's computer or phone, produces a transcript in real time, and generates AI-enhanced notes that the user can chat with, share and export. The Help Center says that on macOS and Windows it "doesn't store audio" and keeps only the transcript, and that on iPhone audio is cached temporarily and deleted after transcription.
Operator. The User Terms of Service (last updated 19 December 2025) and the Application Terms name "Granola, Inc." and give a contact address of 1151 Walker Road, Suite 417, Dover, Delaware 19904. The User Terms present it as the address for privacy and Terms questions (notices under the User Terms go to [email protected]); the Platform Terms, section 14.4, name it as the address for formal notices, with a copy to [email protected]. The Privacy Policy (shown as effective from 8 September 2026) says "Granola, Inc. and its affiliated companies, including Granola Labs Ltd." provide the services. Granola's company page says it is "a London based startup", and its careers page lists London and San Francisco offices and says it is "backed by a $125M Series C" (company statements; funding terms were not verified from an investor or filing). Founding year was not verified from a primary source.
Plans and prices. The Help Center lists Basic (free), Business at $14 per user per month, and Enterprise from $35 per user per month; the pricing page showed Basic $0 and Business $14 per user per month on 2026-10-21. Payments are processed by Stripe, according to the billing page and the Privacy Policy.

Model training and data use. The 'Models & training' page says "By default, Granola may use anonymized data to improve our services", that this data "is never sent to third parties", and that users can opt out at any time; Enterprise workspaces are opted out by default. The Privacy Policy says Granola does not allow third parties such as OpenAI or Anthropic to use user data to train their models and that it uses de-identified data to train models, which users can opt out of.
Telling meeting participants. The Help Center describes two optional transparency features, an automated chat message and a 'Granola Watermark' on the user's video, which it says are shown "when enabled". It says the user's notes are private by default and that customers remain responsible for deciding what notice or consent is required in their jurisdiction. The User Terms require users not to use the service in a way that violates "laws governing the monitoring or recording of conversations".
Dispute terms for customers. The Platform Terms (19 December 2025 version), section 14.10, provide for good-faith negotiation first and then "binding arbitration in San Francisco, California" under the JAMS Streamlined Arbitration Rules, state that claims "MUST BE ARBITRATED OR LITIGATED ON AN INDIVIDUAL BASIS AND NOT ON A CLASS BASIS", and describe an opt-out procedure; section 14.12 selects California law. These are terms between Granola and its customer; this page does not say they apply to people who were only participants in a meeting.
Who handles consent and data requests. The User Terms say it is "SOLELY CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY" to obtain the rights, permissions or consents necessary under applicable recording laws. The Privacy Policy says: "If we are the processor of your Personal Data (i.e., not the controller), please contact the controller to address your data protection rights." A meeting participant who writes to [email protected] may therefore be referred to the Granola customer.
Transcript auto-deletion. The Help Center says users can choose to delete transcripts after "1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, or 1 year", that deletion is "permanent and irreversible", and that a one-week cooldown applies to individual users.
Relationships. The Privacy Policy names Granola Labs Ltd. as an affiliated company.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I cancel a paid Granola plan?
The Granola Help Center (read 2026-10-21) says to click your workspace name in the bottom-left corner, open Settings, then Billing, choose Manage subscription to open Stripe's billing portal, and select Cancel subscription. It says the subscription continues until the end of the current billing cycle and that the workspace then moves to the free Basic plan. If you cannot access the account, it gives [email protected].
Does Granola give refunds?
The Platform Terms (19 December 2025 version), section 7.1, say that, "except as otherwise specified herein", payments are non-cancelable and non-refundable; section 10.4 provides a refund of prepaid fees after termination for cause by the customer, and section 7.4 sets a 15-day written window to dispute an invoice. What happens when a Granola trial ends?
The billing page says that when a time-limited Business or Enterprise trial ends, you either subscribe from Settings, then Billing (and are charged) or the workspace is moved to Basic, and that Granola emails before the trial ends. It says applying a coupon does not shorten the trial and the discount applies to the first payment after the trial.

Cal.), was filed on 30 July 2026 as a proposed class action alleging that Granola records meeting participants without their consent and uses the content for AI training by default. The Help Center says Granola may by default use anonymized data to improve its services and that users can turn this off under Settings, then Preferences, with the toggle 'Use my data to improve models for everyone'. It says Enterprise workspaces are opted out by default and that its sub-processor agreements prohibit model training on user data. The Privacy Policy adds that de-identified and aggregated data already incorporated into AI or analytics models or other databases "will not be removed from those models and datasets, as removal may not be technically feasible". The Help Center describes optional features, an automated chat message and a Granola Watermark on the user's video, shown when enabled, and tells users to get consent before transcribing others. It also says customers are responsible for deciding what notice or consent is required in their jurisdiction.
