GOAT order problems: returns, refunds, Buyer Protection and the FTC refund payments (checked October 14, 2026)
Got an FTC check or PayPal payment? On October 6, 2026 the FTC said it is sending checks or PayPal payments to 6,205 customers who had not yet received a payment under its 2024 settlement with GOAT. The FTC's refund page says the payments go to people who paid GOAT for expedited shipping between 2020 and 2024. Per the FTC, check recipients should cash the check within 90 days and PayPal recipients should redeem the payment within 30 days; questions go to the refund administrator, JND Legal Administration, at 1-888-970-2410, and the FTC says it never requires people to pay money or provide account information to get a payment.
Report a problem with an order. GOAT's Buyer Protection Policy says it applies when an item is received and deemed inauthentic, is an incorrect item, does not match the item description or images, or is missing a key feature. You must contact GOAT within thirty days of receipt, through GOAT Assist on the Orders page of the app or by submitting a request at support.goat.com. If GOAT provides a return label, the item must be shipped within three business days. The policy says an approved return is refunded in GOAT Credit for the total purchase, and that a refund to the original payment method should be requested when contacting GOAT support. The policy states it does not apply to claims based on conditional issues that result from wear, and that purchases a buyer elected to receive through a freight forwarder are excluded.
Standard returns. GOAT's returns page says returns of eligible items must be requested within 30 days of receipt, that items marked Final Sale, used items, auction items and several special categories are not eligible except as required by law or under the Buyer Protection Policy, and that an accepted standard return is refunded as GOAT Credit less shipping costs and any priority processing fee, with a return processing fee of up to 15 percent of the item price for U.S. buyers. The page adds that a return may be rejected if the item is creased or otherwise altered as a result of trying it on, and its no-return list also covers GOAT Storage items and items shipped to a freight forwarder or a delivery address in the People's Republic of China. For an approved return the item must be shipped to GOAT within 3 business days of receiving the return label. GOAT Credit issued as a refund expires one year after issuance, except for shipping addresses in the states the page lists (CA, FL, HI, IA, ID, IL, IN, KY, NC, NE, NV, PA, RI, SD, TN, TX, VT, WA, WI).
If a return is not approved. The returns page says GOAT notifies you by email; for sneakers you can have the item sent back at your expense (after paying a shipping invoice) or consigned on your behalf, and if you do not respond within 14 days of the notice or do not pay the shipping invoice within 14 days of receipt, GOAT states it will consign the sneaker at the price you paid.
Cancelling. The returns page says an order can be cancelled with the Cancel button on the Orders screen only if the seller has not confirmed it, it is a sneaker item, it is not an 'Instant' item, it was not placed with the Offer feature, and fewer than three hours have passed. For orders cancelled after payment has been processed, the page says the refund goes to the original payment method and to allow the financial institution 3 to 5 business days; it also states GOAT reserves the right to cancel orders at its sole discretion.
Escalating. A complaint can also be filed with the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov, with your state attorney general, or with the BBB. If you paid by card, your card issuer's dispute process is a separate route; ask the issuer about its deadlines.
FTC action against 1661, Inc. d/b/a GOAT (2024 order; 2026 refund payments)
What was filed. On December 2, 2024 the FTC filed a complaint against 1661, Inc., dba GOAT in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California (No. 2:24-cv-10329) together with a stipulated order. The complaint alleges violations of Section 5(a) of the FTC Act and of the FTC's Mail, Internet, or Telephone Order Merchandise Rule (16 C.F.R. Part 435).
What the FTC alleged. Among other things, the complaint alleges that GOAT shipped 37 percent of 'Instant' weekday-morning orders later than it represented and shipped more than 16 percent of 'Instant (Next Day)' orders on the second business day or later, and that GOAT's Buyer Protection Policy promised relief for deficient products that the company did not reliably deliver, including by denying requests or giving partial refunds or store credit. These are the FTC's allegations.
What the order says. The order states: 'Defendant neither admits nor denies any of the allegations in the Complaint, except as specifically stated in this Order.' It provides for a monetary judgment of $2,013,527, less any amount GOAT successfully reimbursed directly to eligible customers under the order, with GOAT stipulating that it had placed that sum in escrow to secure reimbursement of customers who paid for Instant (Standard) or Next Day shipping where the merchandise was neither shipped nor delivered within the represented time (any undistributed remainder goes to the FTC), and it contains conduct provisions on shipping practices, truthful descriptions of Buyer Protection relief, and customer-service practices. The court entered the order on December 12, 2024 and terminated the case (docket entry 10); the docket also lists two later entries dated November 4, 2025, a transcript and a clerical-error notice, whose content is not described on the docket page.
Refunds paid. The FTC's October 6, 2026 release says GOAT directly refunded more than $736,000 to affected customers in 2025 and that the FTC is now sending payments to 6,205 customers who had not yet received one, totaling more than $100,000 according to the FTC's refund page.
Scope. No other regulator action against GOAT was identified in the sources checked on October 14, 2026 (the FTC site and the BBB profile); state attorney general and state agency databases were not searched individually.
Who operates GOAT
The Terms of Use identify the operator as 1661, Inc. d/b/a GOAT. The FTC complaint describes it as a Delaware corporation with its principal office in Los Angeles and an e-commerce secondary marketplace for sneakers and apparel sold on goat.com and through mobile apps. GOAT's About Us page says the company was founded in 2015, offers sneakers, apparel and accessories, and 'is owned and operated by GOAT Group'; it also says the platform serves over 60 million members in 170 countries (the company's own figures). The Privacy Policy names two U.S. subsidiaries, Flight Club New York, LLC and Grailed, LLC.
For purchases by U.S. buyers GOAT's returns page says GOAT is the seller of record. Most standard sneaker orders are first shipped to GOAT for verification, while 'Instant' items are described as already verified and shipped directly from GOAT facilities or a partner. GOAT's Assurance of Authenticity page says products are verified by digital authentication, in-hand verification and/or machine learning technology, and that some products are verified by methods that do not include physical examination.
The Terms of Use contain a binding arbitration provision and class action waiver, with an opt-out available within 30 days by emailing [email protected]; the Terms are governed by California law.
