CarGuard claims, cancellation and complaints: what the company's pages say (checked October 12, 2026)

CarGuard Administration, Inc. describes itself as an administrator of vehicle protection plans; its Protection Plans page says it offers "a variety of plans including Platinum , Gold , Powertrain, Prepaid Maintenance and Flat Rate". Its sample contract page names it as "Administrator/Obligor", and its Areas We Serve and Our Story pages tell plan holders: "If you have an issue with your Vehicle Protection Plan, please contact the seller of your contract. This information can be found on the declaration page of your contract. If you do not have your contract, please call us at (888) 907-0870." Its Customers page, by contrast, says: "If you have questions about your plan please contact our experienced team of adjusters and we will be happy to assist you." The points below come from carguardadmin.com pages opened on October 12, 2026; the contract you hold controls, and the web pages are summaries.

Start a claim. The Claims Center page says: "Only ASE Certified Shops can open claims" and "If you are a customer please take your vehicle to an ASE Certified Repair Facility and have them contact us." It lists an online "OPEN A CLAIM" form, a separate "SUBMIT SERVICE RECORDS" form ("If you have been requested to provide service records for you claim"), the office number (888) 907-0870, the email [email protected], and hours of Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST (the Contact Us page lists Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST). The page's "File a Claim" link points to carguardclaims.com, which returned a "404 Not Found" page when opened on October 12, 2026.

Waiting period and coverage. The sample Platinum and Powertrain contract application pages say: "A day and mile waiting period will apply from the effective date and current odometer reading. Claims may not be filed until this waiting period is satisfied." The Gold plan page says: "If a specific part is not explicitly named, it is not covered." The company says its plans carry "limits of liability of $12,500 or actual cash value, whichever is greater". The sample pages on the site are one-page application forms (and, for Prepaid Maintenance, a one-page addendum), not the full contract terms.

Cancellation and refunds. In the CarGuard website pages opened on October 12, 2026 (home, plans, claims center, contact, our story, customers, areas we serve, privacy policy and the four sample PDFs), no cancellation or refund procedure was found. The Prepaid Maintenance sample addendum refers to a "cancellations section" of the contract that is not on the page. The company's pages point to the seller named on the contract's declaration page for issues with a plan. In a reply posted on its BBB complaints tab on June 3, 2026, signed "CarGuard Administration, INC", the company wrote: "The consumer would need to reach out to the selling agent for any cancellations of the Vehicle Service Contract, any refunds request, CarGuard Administration, INC only handle claims processing." That is the company's statement to BBB about one complaint; the cancellation terms of the contract you hold control.

If the company does not resolve it. The FTC's page on auto service contracts says: "If you have a problem with an auto service contract or extended warranty, contact your car dealer, the auto service contract company. If that doesn't work, report it to your state attorney general, the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov." In some states the insurance department regulates service-contract providers, so the department for the state where the contract was sold may also take a complaint. A complaint can also be filed through BBB (the complaints tab links to https://www.bbb.org/file-a-complaint/0714-1000006173). See the complaint-record section for BBB and Trustpilot figures as displayed.

About CarGuard Administration, Inc.

CarGuard Administration, Inc. administers vehicle service contracts that it calls vehicle protection plans. According to its own site, the plans include Platinum (Platinum Deluxe, Platinum and Platinum Plus), Gold (which its plans page labels "exclusionary"), Powertrain (Powertrain Enhanced, Powertrain Plus and Powertrain), Prepaid Maintenance ("3 oil changes, brake pads/shoes, battery replacement and cooling system maintenance/lube", "with paid surcharge") and Flat Rate (listed on its Protection Plans page; no Flat Rate plan page was opened). The company says "all of our plans include trip interruption and rental car benefits", that it serves 48 states and "currently does not serve Washington and California State", and that its contracts are "fully insured through a Contractual Liability Insurance Policy (CLIP)"; the insurer is not named on the pages opened.

The pages describe a business-to-business model: its site invites prospective sellers ("Interested in becoming a partner? Send us a message"), and plan holders are told to contact "the seller of your contract". The sources checked on October 12, 2026 do not show which sellers or dealers market CarGuard contracts.

When and where. The company's pages disagree on its start: the Our Story page says "CarGuard was founded in 2015" in Overland Park, Kansas and "moved its offices to Phoenix, Arizona in 2020", while the About Us page says "CarGuard was founded in Overland Park, Kansas in 2011 with just two employees". BBB's raw page data shows a business start of January 28, 2015 and an incorporation date of March 5, 2021. The address on the sample contract pages is 4742 N. 24th St., Suite 300, Phoenix, Arizona 85016; the Claims Center page lists 1776 N Scottsdale Rd. #2827, Scottsdale, Arizona 85257; and BBB lists 4901 W 136th St, Leawood, Kansas 66224. A May 2020 complaint in the Western District of Texas (Callier) described the company as a Kansas corporation and a December 2020 complaint in the same court (Herrera) described it as an Arizona corporation; these are the plaintiffs' descriptions.

People. BBB lists Trevor Smith as CEO and CeCi Harris as COO. A 2021 declaration in an Arizona case was submitted in the name of Trevor Smith (see the litigation section).

BBB, Trustpilot and archive complaints about CarGuard (figures as displayed on October 12, 2026)

BBB. The BBB profile for CarGuard Administration Inc. (Leawood, KS) shows "BBB Accredited Business", rating A+, accredited since May 18, 2015 according to BBB (raw page data and rendered page agree). BBB lists a second location, 1776 N. Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, AZ 85016-3601. The complaints tab says "26 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "3 complaints filed in the last 12 months"; the customer-reviews tab shows 4.3 out of 5 stars from an "Average of 37 Customer Reviews". BBB notes that complaint text displayed may not represent all complaints filed, and that reviews are not used in the letter grade. These figures are BBB's, counted separately from the other sources on this page.

Company replies on BBB. In business replies on four complaints on the BBB complaints tab (complaints dated February 2025 to May 2026), the company describes itself as the administrator that handles claims and does not sell the contract, and quotes contract wording for its claim decisions. A reply of March 23, 2026 quotes the contract: "SECTION V. EXCLUSIONS – WHAT IS NOT COVERED: Technical Service Bulletins and Factory Service Bulletins ... shall also be expressly excluded from coverage under this Agreement", and cites "operation without the proper lubrication levels or fluid type". Replies of June 2026 and February 2025 quote payment limits of parts "not to exceed the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP)" and labor rates "not to exceed the average market value for labor rates in the area", with area defined as "a fifty-mile (50) radius". These are the company's statements in individual complaints; allegations in the complaints are not findings, and the contract you hold controls.

Trustpilot. The Trustpilot page for "Carguard Admin" (www.carguard-admin.com, which redirects to carguardadmin.com) shows 47 reviews and a TrustScore of 2.0, a "Claimed profile", "4 reviews in the last 12 months", "No recent history of asking for reviews" and "Hasn't replied to negative reviews". Trustpilot says it does not fact-check reviews, and that this company's reviews "may not be representative".

Other sources. No FTC or state attorney general enforcement action naming CarGuard Administration was identified in the sources checked on October 12, 2026 (web searches, the FTC's consumer page above and CourtListener); the Missouri Department of Insurance company page and some state registries returned an access-denied page and were not read, so state licensing and consumer-complaint records are not covered here.

Archive posts. No archive complaint is linked to this profile. One 2012 archive post uses the name "Aaa Carguard" with a Plymouth, Massachusetts address and a different phone number; it could not be tied to CarGuard Administration, Inc. and is not counted here. Complaints on this site are consumers' accounts and are not verified by the site.

Court dockets naming CarGuard Administration

The records below come from CourtListener dockets opened on October 12, 2026 (plus the plaintiffs' complaints in two cases). A complaint is an allegation, and a voluntary dismissal or settlement notice is not a finding. Where the docket entries reviewed do not state the claims, this section says so rather than inferring them. The CourtListener search for the case name "CarGuard" returned 18 dockets, all listed here.

Cases filed by individuals.

  • Fleming v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (W.D. Va., No. 6:24-cv-00057). CarGuard removed the case from the Lynchburg Circuit Court on November 26, 2024 (the state-court filing date is not shown on the federal docket). AutoProtect USA, LLC was served and the clerk entered its default on January 27, 2025. On October 16, 2025 a minute order denied CarGuard's motion requesting changes to the scheduling order as moot "because the parties reached a settlement"; the plaintiff filed a stipulation of dismissal of CarGuard on November 14, 2025. The docket lists "Remand" on January 9, 2026 and an order on a motion to remand on January 22, 2026; the entries reviewed do not state the claims or the terms of the settlement.
  • Workman v. CarGuard Administration Incorporated (D. Ariz., No. 2:23-cv-00961). A putative class action complaint filed May 31, 2023 and amended on August 4, 2023. CarGuard moved to dismiss and to strike class allegations; on August 7, 2023 the court denied those motions as moot after the amended complaint. A motion to bifurcate discovery was denied on May 15, 2024, and a discovery dispute over a subpoena to a third party was heard on July 16, 2024. A report of settlement talks was filed December 2, 2024; the parties stipulated to dismissal on January 22, 2025 and the court dismissed the case on January 23, 2025. The terms are not shown on the docket.
  • Salaiz v. Carguard Administration Inc. (W.D. Tex., Nos. 3:22-cv-00172 and 3:23-cv-00108). Two separate cases by the same plaintiff. The first, filed May 16, 2022, was dismissed with prejudice on June 9, 2022 after the plaintiff's motion; the second, filed March 10, 2023 (CourtListener lists the nature of suit as the Telephone Consumer Protection Act), was dismissed with prejudice on April 5, 2023 after the plaintiff's motion, each party to bear its own costs.
  • Constantine v. CarGuard Administration Inc (C.D. Cal., No. 8:22-cv-00820). Filed April 15, 2022; a panel mediator was assigned in November 2022 and the court dismissed the action on a stipulation on January 27, 2023.
  • Tatum v. CarGuard Administration Inc. (E.D. Tex., No. 6:22-cv-00408). Filed October 21, 2022; dismissed with prejudice on December 20, 2022 after a stipulation, each party bearing its own costs and fees.
  • Tschatschula v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (D. Colo., No. 1:22-cv-01046). Filed April 29, 2022; closed on August 13, 2022 on the plaintiff's own motion to dismiss.
  • Baccari v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (E.D. Pa., No. 2:22-cv-01952). Filed May 18, 2022. CarGuard moved to dismiss for lack of jurisdiction, to dismiss for failure to state a claim and to strike class allegations. On August 8, 2022 the court granted the jurisdictional motion and dismissed the complaint without prejudice, with a memorandum opinion that was not reviewed for this page.
  • Traylor v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (D. Mass., No. 1:21-cv-10150). Filed January 28, 2021; CarGuard answered on March 15, 2021 and the plaintiff filed a stipulation of dismissal on April 6, 2021.
  • Shanahan v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (D. Neb., No. 8:21-cv-00010). Filed January 7, 2021; on March 31, 2021 the court entered judgment on the parties' joint stipulation, dismissing the individual claims with prejudice and the putative class claims without prejudice, each party to bear its own fees and costs.
  • Herrera v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. and Vehicle Protection Specialists, LLC (W.D. Tex., No. 3:20-cv-00302). Filed December 7, 2020. The complaint alleges calls to the plaintiff's cell phone using an autodialing system or prerecorded voice to sell vehicle service contracts, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The court dismissed the claims without prejudice on May 12, 2021 for failure to prosecute after the plaintiff did not respond to a show-cause order.
  • Barrett v. CarGuard Administration, Inc. (D. Mass., Nos. 1:20-cv-10746, 1:20-cv-11487 and 1:20-cv-12073). Three cases filed April 16, August 6 and November 19, 2020. The first ended with a 60-day settlement order of dismissal on June 5, 2020 after a notice of settlement; the second with a 60-day order dismissing the case on August 26, 2020 after a notice of settlement; the third with a stipulation and an order of dismissal on May 13, 2021 after an amended complaint added other defendants. The terms are not shown on the dockets.
  • Callier v. CarGuard Administration INC and Auto Protecht, LLC (W.D. Tex., No. 3:20-cv-00118). Filed May 1, 2020 (nature of suit: Telephone Consumer Protection Act); a notice of settlement was filed May 28, 2020, and the court dismissed the case on July 9, 2020 on the plaintiff's motion to dismiss with prejudice.
  • Cunningham v. Smithkey Auto Industries, Inc. d/b/a Red Auto Protection and CarGuard Administration, Inc. (E.D. Tex., No. 4:19-cv-00541). Filed July 22, 2019; a notice of settlement was filed August 29, 2019 and the case was dismissed with prejudice on October 4, 2019.

Company-versus-company cases.

  • NCWC Incorporated v. CarGuard Administration Incorporated (D. Ariz., No. 2:20-cv-01588). Filed August 11, 2020 by a company, not a consumer. On October 19, 2022 the court denied CarGuard's motion for summary judgment and on December 13, 2022 denied its motion for partial summary adjudication; the plaintiff filed a stipulation of dismissal and the court dismissed all claims with prejudice on June 21, 2023, each party bearing its own costs. The docket entries reviewed do not state the claims.
  • CarGuard Administration Incorporated v. National Administrative Service Company LLC (D. Ariz., No. 2:21-cv-01037). CarGuard filed this case on June 14, 2021 against National Administrative Service Company, Dimension Service Corporation, Autoguard Advantage Corporation, Affordable Auto Protection, LLC, Pelican Investment Holdings Group, LLC (d/b/a AAP) and an individual. The docket entries reviewed do not state the claims, and the defendants filed a counterclaim against CarGuard. On June 10, 2022 the court dismissed Affordable Auto Protection without prejudice for lack of personal jurisdiction and denied the motion as to the individual defendant. CarGuard reported a settlement on March 27, 2023 and the case was terminated on May 19, 2023.

Bankruptcy filing that lists CarGuard as a creditor. In American Automotive Alliance (Bankr. M.D. Fla., No. 3:26-bk-02023, a Chapter 11 case filed May 5, 2026), the debtor describes its business as automobile warranty sales and revenue from "sales of vehicle service contracts". The petition schedules list "CarGuard ADministration Inc" as a nonpriority unsecured creditor with a claim of $335,000.00, basis "Business loan or cash advance", marked contingent, unliquidated and disputed; the debtor's cash-collateral motion lists "CarGuard Administration Inc." among four pre-petition merchant cash advance lenders claiming a lien on the debtor's cash and receivables. CourtListener showed the last known filing as October 7, 2026. CarGuard is not shown as a party to any action on that docket, and the filings reviewed do not say that the debtor sold CarGuard contracts; the entry is the debtor's own characterization of the debt.

The dockets do not show whether CarGuard denied the allegations; where a case ended by dismissal or stipulation the docket entries reviewed do not state an admission or a finding on the merits. No class settlement, claims website or administrator for CarGuard was identified in the sources checked on October 12, 2026.

Is CarGuard Administration Legitimate?

CarGuard Administration, Inc. publishes a website, a telephone number and a street address, names itself as "Administrator/Obligor" on its sample contract pages, and is listed on BBB as a BBB Accredited Business with an A+ rating (accredited since May 18, 2015, according to BBB) and 26 complaints in the last three years as displayed on October 12, 2026. Trustpilot shows 47 reviews and a TrustScore of 2.0 on a claimed profile. The two review sites use different scales and are not combined here.

Court dockets show at least 18 cases naming the company since 2019, most brought by individuals (the complaints or docket headers read for several of them cite the Telephone Consumer Protection Act); every one reviewed ended by dismissal, stipulation or a settlement notice, and none of the dockets reviewed shows a judgment on the merits against CarGuard. In the sources checked on October 12, 2026 no FTC or state attorney general enforcement action against CarGuard Administration was identified. These are the facts available; this site does not rate companies.

The FTC's page on auto service contracts says that administrators "make the decisions about authorizing the payment of claims under the contract", advises reading the offered contract before signing "to learn if you have rights if the administrator declines to pay a claim", and notes that the warranty company "could ask for your maintenance records". The waiting-period and exclusion terms of CarGuard's plans are on its own plan and sample contract pages, described above.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I file a claim with CarGuard?

The CarGuard Claims Center page says only ASE Certified shops can open claims: take the vehicle to an ASE Certified repair facility and have the shop contact CarGuard. The page lists an online open-a-claim form, the office number (888) 907-0870 and hours of Monday to Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST (its Contact Us page lists 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM CST). Service records requested for a claim are submitted through a separate online form.

Who do I contact to cancel a CarGuard contract?

CarGuard's Areas We Serve and Our Story pages say that for an issue with a Vehicle Protection Plan, contact the seller of the contract, whose details are on the declaration page, or call (888) 907-0870 if you do not have the contract. In a June 3, 2026 reply to a BBB complaint, the company wrote that the consumer "would need to reach out to the selling agent for any cancellations of the Vehicle Service Contract, any refunds request" and that it "only handle claims processing". No cancellation or refund procedure was found on the CarGuard website pages opened on October 12, 2026, so the cancellation section of your own contract controls.

Is CarGuard the company that sold me the plan?

The company's own pages describe it as an administrator and name "the seller of your contract" as the first contact for plan issues; the sample contract pages name CarGuard Administration, INC as "Administrator/Obligor". In a June 3, 2026 BBB reply the company wrote that one contract "was not sold by CarGuard Administration, INC" and that it "only handle claims processing". The seller's name is on the contract's declaration page, and the FTC says many dealer-sold contracts are handled by independent administrators that make the decisions about authorizing claim payments.

Is there a waiting period before a claim can be made?

The sample Platinum and Powertrain contract application pages on carguardadmin.com say a day and mile waiting period applies from the effective date and current odometer reading, and that claims may not be filed until it is satisfied. The length is left blank on the sample, so the number of days and miles is in the contract you received.

What does the BBB profile for CarGuard show?

BBB lists CarGuard Administration Inc. at a Leawood, Kansas address as an accredited business rated A+.
