Canva's Terms of Use (effective 19 August 2026) name Canva US, Inc. as the contracting entity for a U.S. billing address and give a legal-notice address in Austin, Texas. BBB lists a profile for Canva (alternate name Canva US, Inc.) in Austin with a C- rating, not accredited, and Trustpilot shows 4.0 from 7,869 reviews (both as displayed on 2026-10-20; see the complaint-record section).
Billing terms. Terms section 9(a) says paid subscriptions 'will automatically renew each billing cycle' and that Canva will 'notify you before auto-renewal.' Section 9(d) says that if you cancel, the subscription 'will be cancelled at the end of your then-current billing cycle and you will not be entitled to a refund of any fees already paid (except where required by law).' Section 9(f) says a price increase does not apply 'until your next renewal or thirty (30) days after notice, whichever is later.'
Disputes. Section 16(d) says to contact Canva first; if unresolved, claims go to binding arbitration by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, claims must be brought individually 'and not as a plaintiff or class member,' each side waives jury trial and class actions, and court filings in the United States go to the Northern District of California or the Santa Clara County state courts. Claims for injunctive relief are carved out.

Complaint record: BBB and Trustpilot
BBB (profile 'Canva', alternate name Canva US, Inc., Austin, TX), as displayed on 2026-10-20: not BBB accredited; BBB Rating C-. BBB gives as the reason for the rating: 'Failure to respond to 7 complaint(s) filed against business.' The complaints tab shows 170 complaints in the last 3 years and 77 in the last 12 months; the complaints visible near the top of the tab were typed 'Billing Issues', and the newest one was dated 09/23/2026 and marked 'Unanswered.' The reviews tab shows 1.03 out of 5 stars, an average of 34 customer reviews; the excerpts shown describe charges the reviewers say they did not expect and difficulty reaching the company. These are consumers' statements, not findings. BBB's page data gives a file-opened date of 2021-03-23.
Trustpilot (canva.com), as displayed on 2026-10-20: 4.0 from 7,869 reviews, 5,183 of them in the last 12 months. The profile is shown as claimed with a paid Trustpilot subscription; Trustpilot displays 'This company invites their customers to review, whether positive or negative' and 'Hasn't replied to negative reviews.' Trustpilot also shows an AI-generated review summary, which we do not repeat.
The two sources are shown separately and are not added together or averaged. They measure different things (BBB shows complaints filed with BBB; Trustpilot shows star reviews), and neither measures how many customers are satisfied. No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.

Submit a ComplaintCanva complaints: cancel, refund and unexpected charges
This page was checked on 2026-10-20 against Canva's own Terms of Use and help center, BBB and Trustpilot. The steps on this page are quoted or paraphrased from Canva's pages; BBB and Trustpilot figures are in the complaint-record section.
- Cancel (subscribed directly on Canva). The help article 'Cancel a Canva plan' lists these steps: on the homepage select your account profile, then Settings, then Billing; on your plan select Cancel plan, then Continue cancellation; choose a reason and select Continue cancellation; (optional) give feedback; select Cancel subscription.
More detailShow less
The article says you will receive a confirmation email. It also says: 'Cancelling stops future payments. You'll keep access to paid features until the end of your current billing period.' If you have no confirmation email, the article says the cancellation may not have gone through and to try again.
- Subscribed through Google Play or the App Store. The article says to cancel through that platform ('uninstalling the app doesn't cancel your plan'). Canva's refund article says App Store subscriptions are refunded by Apple, not Canva.
- Charged after cancelling, or a charge you do not recognize. The article lists causes it names: more than one Canva account with only one cancelled, a Google Play or App Store subscription, or a cancellation that did not complete.
More detailShow less
It points to an 'Identify payment' help page (canva.com/help/identify-unfamiliar-payment/) and to Canva Support. The article also says: 'Check your billing email or bank statement to confirm whether your charge came from Canva, Google, Apple, or PayPal.' It says some banks keep subscription payments going even if the physical card is canceled or expired, because of automatic card-update services. One BBB complaint on the Canva profile says the complainant mistook Canva for a service named Canvas; that is the complainant's statement.
- Free trial. Terms section 9(e) says that at the end of a free trial Canva will charge the subscription fee for the next billing cycle 'unless you cancel your subscription prior to the end of the free trial.' The cancel article adds that Canva's billing system runs on UTC, so 'a charge can appear a day earlier than expected' depending on time zone. The help center has a separate 'End your free trial' article.
- Pause instead of cancel. The cancel article says a Canva Pro, Teams or Business plan can be paused for up to 3 months with no charges during the pause, and that the plan resumes automatically with an email reminder.
- Refund. Canva's article 'Refunds for Canva subscriptions' says: 'In most cases, Canva subscriptions aren't refundable, as outlined in our Terms of Use,' and also that 'we review every refund request. We sometimes help depending on the situation.' If a refund is approved, the article gives processing times that depend on the payment method: credit cards 5-10 business days, PayPal 3-5, other methods up to 20. A separate Canva help article on refunds for members moved to Canva Enterprise gives the path Canva Support > Payments, pricing, and billing > 'I want to request a refund for my plan'; the general refund article does not list those steps. For domains bought through Canva, the article says Canva is a reseller of Tucows domains and that Tucows' refund policies apply.
- Formal complaints. You can file with BBB, the FTC (reportfraud.ftc.gov), or your state attorney general. Your card issuer or payment app also has its own dispute process. Terms section 16(d) contains an arbitration clause (see the legitimacy section).
Reported third-party data-security incident (Aug-Sep 2026)
DataBreaches.net, in an article dated 2026-09-23, reports that on August 29 the vendor Canny notified Canva that it was investigating unauthorized access. The article quotes a Canva spokesperson, via Capital Brief: 'The unauthorised access to Canny allowed access to limited enterprise customer information through its connection to our Salesforce account, including business contact details and contract information.' According to the article, a group calling itself The Seven Deadly Sins says it attacked Canny and exported data; these are the group's claims.

In the Justia entries, none is typed as a consumer billing case; one 2023 case is typed 'Contract: Other'. The newest Canva-party filing on Justia was dated September 24, 2025, and those two searches showed no 2026 filing. The search does not cover state courts, arbitration or regulator proceedings, and this is not a complete list of litigation involving the company.
