Operator. JRSK, Inc., doing business as Away (Terms of Use, Last Updated September 12, 2025; Warranty Information page). Address. 503 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012 (warrantor address); 82 Mercer Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012 (mailing address for arbitration opt-out notices in the Terms). Website. awaytravel.com. Founders and CEO. Founded by Jen Rubio and Steph Korey; Jessica Schinazi is CEO and Rubio is executive chair. BBB. Not BBB Accredited; BBB lists the business start year as 2015 and incorporation in March 2015. Sellers. Away sells through its own site and stores and through authorized retailers. Its warranty terms exclude "any product sold by resellers who are not authorized retailers," and its Authorized Reseller Policy says the same.
Terms in brief (Away's Terms of Use). Disputes are to be "exclusively and finally resolved by binding, individual arbitration" and class actions are waived. The arbitration provider is the American Arbitration Association, under its Consumer Arbitration Rules (www.adr.org, 1-800-778-7879). The Terms give a right to opt out of arbitration by written notice within thirty days of first agreeing, sent to [email protected] or the mailing address on this page. Before arbitration, each side must send the other written notice of the dispute and allow 30 days to settle it informally; the Terms say notice to Away "shall be sent by certified mail addressed to [email protected]" and give no separate postal address for this notice. Certified mail cannot be delivered to an email address, so as a practical step, email the notice to [email protected], keep proof of sending, and ask the AAA or a lawyer how to handle the postal requirement. To the fullest extent the law allows, the Terms require a dispute to be filed within one year after it arises. Either side may instead use small claims court for an individual claim, as long as the case is not removed or appealed to a court of general jurisdiction. New York law governs, except for California residents, for whom California law governs. The Terms state that Away may choose not to accept orders even after a confirmation email and that shipping and delivery dates are estimates only.
Warranty terms (Warranty Information page). The Luggage Limited Warranty covers original purchasers (or the original gift recipient), is not transferable, excludes commercial or rental use, and requires a copy of the purchase receipt. It covers manufacturing defects causing shell cracks or breaks, wheels or handles that break off, zippers that cannot be opened or closed, and fabric tears that make a front pocket non-functional. It excludes cosmetic damage (scratches, dents, scuffs, stains, normal wear), products from unauthorized resellers, products sold as-is, reconditioned or previously owned, and damage from improper storage or maintenance, misuse, mishandling, an "Act of God" or causes beyond Away's reasonable control. Battery failure falls under a separate electronics warranty. Remedy is repair, replacement or other compensation at Away's option; replacements may be new or "like new" and in a different color, and personalization is not carried over. Away's liability is limited to the purchase price. A repaired or replaced suitcase stays under the same warranty and the warranty period does not restart. Away reserves the right to limit the number of replacements, and to deny claims or cancel coverage where it suspects abuse, fraud or misuse. Away covers shipping to return covered luggage and to send back the repaired or replacement item; if you are locked out of a suitcase, you pay the shipping to send it in for unlocking.
LifetimeCare (purchases on or after April 14, 2026). Away's LifetimeCare page lists as covered manufacturing defects and travel damage such as airline mishandling and drops; not covered are cosmetic wear and tear and lost or stolen luggage. Standard coverage gives free repairs for five years with round-trip shipping and one replacement if repair is not possible in that period. After year five, repair support continues for the life of the suitcase, but it is not always free: the LifetimeCare page says repairs stay complimentary in Away stores and that "a reasonable service fee may apply" in some cases, and Away's Warranty page says repairs after five years carry "a reasonable service fee." Away says its specialists confirm any fee in advance, and round-trip shipping stays free. LifetimeCare Pro, listed at $35, extends free repairs to 10 years with up to two replacements in that period; it can be added at purchase or within 100 days afterward through product registration, so check the price before you buy. Away's warranty page says bags and accessories carry a one-year warranty rather than LifetimeCare.

Complaint record: this site, BBB and Trustpilot
No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile.
Away's BBB profile shows an A+ BBB rating, "Not BBB Accredited," 84 complaints in the last 3 years, 18 of them in the last 12 months, and 8 customer reviews. BBB sorts those complaints as service or repair issues (41), product issues (25), delivery issues (9), sales and advertising issues (4), billing issues (3), customer service issues (1) and order issues (1); 55 are marked answered and 29 resolved. The complaints on the page describe warranty claims denied or disputed over cracked shells, zippers, handles and finish damage, and returns or refunds that went missing. Trustpilot shows 4.7 out of 5 from 3,813 reviews for awaytravel.com, 2,913 of them in the last 12 months, with 15 percent of all reviews at one star. Trustpilot says the profile is claimed by Away with a paid subscription, that the company invites its customers to leave reviews, and that Away has replied to 29 percent of negative reviews.
In one-star Trustpilot reviews, customers describe do-it-yourself repair kits sent instead of replacements, wrong or missing parts, waits of weeks for parts, handles and wheels that broke early, and support they say is limited to email or chat with no phone line. Those are customers' accounts. Away's LifetimeCare page says "94% of suitcases sold have never utilized a warranty repair or replacement."

Returns. Away's Returns and Exchanges page says it offers "free returns and exchanges on unused items for the first 100 days." Items must be unused, and you need the original packaging for a return; Away also suggests leaving the lock set to 0-0-0 until you decide to keep the bag. Customers in the US, Canada or the UK get a prepaid return label from the Returns & Exchanges self-service portal (orders.awaytravel.com/returns), or can use the contact form; Away stores also accept returns. You need your order number from the confirmation email, or the 18-digit receipt number for in-store purchases. The page says "it may take up to two weeks for us to issue your refund" and that "original shipping fees are non-refundable."
More detailShow less
Not returnable: final sale items, personalized items such as monogrammed luggage and tags (warranty coverage still applies), gift cards, and items bought as a corporate gift (suitcases among them keep their warranty or LifetimeCare coverage).
Warranty and repairs. Away splits coverage by purchase date. Luggage bought before 8:00 AM EST on April 14, 2026 is covered by the Limited Lifetime Warranty; luggage bought on or after that time falls under LifetimeCare.

Start a claim at orders.awaytravel.com/warranty/claim with your order or registration number and email. If you bought from an authorized retailer rather than from Away, the claim form asks you to register the product first. Coverage requires valid proof of purchase; an original gift recipient can ask the buyer for the order number, or give Away the buyer's full name and email so it can find the order. Away's warranty page says its team will be in touch within 24 to 48 hours and that if you have an upcoming trip you should reach out at least 2-3 weeks in advance. Away stores do repairs, but the Returns and Exchanges page says stores cannot process warranty replacement orders. A return is possible only in the first 100 days; after that, a manufacturing defect goes through a warranty or LifetimeCare claim. Travel damage such as airline mishandling is a LifetimeCare term. The older Limited Lifetime Warranty lists manufacturing defects and excludes mishandling and causes beyond Away's reasonable control, so a bag bought before the cutoff and damaged in transit may not qualify. If an airline damaged the bag, also report it to the airline as soon as you can; airlines set their own deadlines.
How to cancel. Away's Holiday Shipping page says you can cancel within 30 minutes of checking out by finding your order at awaytravel.com/order-lookup. After that, Away says it can try to help with an address change through its contact form; if you want a different product, it suggests placing a new order and returning the original once it arrives. The return route is the unused item within 100 days. To close your Away account, the Terms say to email [email protected].
Contacting Away. The Contact Us page offers live chat and an email form and does not list a general customer phone number or chat hours; it says messages are answered in the order received.

The only phone numbers on it are for individual Away stores, which handle store returns and repairs but not warranty replacements. The two numbers on the BBB profile, (646) 649-3191 and (347) 955-9411, are the NYC Noho and Williamsburg store lines. The warranty page gives [email protected] as the warrantor's email and says the warrantor is JRSK, Inc. (d/b/a Away). The Terms give [email protected] for questions about the Terms, products or services. If you are looking for Away's corporate office, the business address Away and BBB publish is 503 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012.
If the company does not resolve it. Keep your order number, photos and message history. If you paid by card and did not get the refund or item you were owed, ask your card issuer about a dispute; issuers set deadlines, so do it promptly. You can file a complaint with the BBB, with the attorney general of the state where you live, and with the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Away is based in New York; the New York Attorney General's complaint page covers purchases under "Consumer issues" and lists an OAG Help Line, 1-800-771-7755. For a legal claim, Away's Terms of Use require individual arbitration before the American Arbitration Association (www.adr.org, 1-800-778-7879), with a written notice of the dispute and 30 days for informal resolution first, and, to the fullest extent the law allows, filing within one year. Small claims court remains an option for an individual claim that stays there. The arbitration opt-out must be sent within 30 days of first agreeing to the Terms, so it is no longer available once that period has passed.

Who runs Away and what it sells
Jen Rubio and Steph Korey founded Away in 2015. Jessica Schinazi is the CEO: she joined as president in late 2024 from Dyson, where she was president of the Americas, and took over from Rubio in 2025. Rubio, CEO from 2021, is now executive chair of the board. Korey was CEO until December 2019, when she announced she would step down, then shared the role with Stuart Haselden as co-CEO until October 2020. Haselden was sole CEO for about four months; Rubio took over on an interim basis in February 2021 and was named CEO that April. Away is a private company; a $100 million funding round in May 2019, at a $1.4 billion valuation, was led by Wellington Management with Baillie Gifford, Lone Pine Capital and Global Founders Capital.
Away sells luggage and travel accessories online at awaytravel.com and in its own stores. In 2025 it also began selling on Amazon and through its first retail partner, Nordstrom. The Contact Us page lists Away stores in Austin, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Washington DC, Houston, Los Angeles (two), Nashville, New York (two), San Francisco, San Jose and Seattle, plus London and Toronto. Away's Terms of Use say the site is "provided by JRSK, Inc. (d/b/a Away)" (Last Updated: September 12, 2025), and the Warranty Information page lists the warrantor as JRSK, Inc. (d/b/a Away), 503 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012. The same address appears on the BBB profile, which also lists the business start year as 2015 and alternate names JRSK, Inc. and Away Travel.

Away's FAQ page says: "We currently ship to the US, UK and CA."
Carry-On battery. Some Away Carry-Ons have a removable 37-watt lithium-ion battery under the handle. Away's battery page says Classic suitcases sold before July 2023 included a battery, while current Classic suitcases do not and cannot take one. Airline rules differ and can apply to carry-ons as well as checked bags. Away's battery page reproduces 2018 policies from American (remove the battery if the bag is checked or valeted and carry it with you), Delta (remove it if the bag is checked, and take it out of its enclosure before boarding if you carry the bag on) and United (remove it from checked and carry-on bags). A gate agent may ask you to show that the battery comes out, so check your airline's current rule before you fly. Removal steps are in the FAQ.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long do I have to return Away luggage?
Away's Returns and Exchanges page says it offers free returns and exchanges on unused items for the first 100 days, and that you should keep the original packaging. Prepaid labels are offered for the US, Canada and the UK, and Away stores accept returns. Final sale items, personalized items, gift cards and corporate-gift purchases cannot be returned.
How long does an Away refund take?
The Returns and Exchanges page says "it may take up to two weeks for us to issue your refund" and that original shipping fees are non-refundable.
How do I make an Away warranty claim?
Away's warranty page directs customers to its claims form (orders.awaytravel.com/warranty/claim). It says its support team will be in touch within 24 to 48 hours and to reach out 2-3 weeks before a trip if you need the luggage. The form asks for your order or registration number and email; if you bought from an authorized retailer, register the product first. The Limited Lifetime Warranty requires a copy of the purchase receipt, and Away covers shipping to return covered luggage and to send it back repaired or replaced. A repaired or replacement suitcase keeps the original warranty, which does not restart.
What is the difference between the Limited Lifetime Warranty and LifetimeCare?
The older warranty covers listed manufacturing defects and excludes misuse and mishandling; LifetimeCare also covers travel damage such as airline mishandling. Which one applies depends on the purchase date: luggage bought before 8:00 AM EST on April 14, 2026 has the Limited Lifetime Warranty, and later purchases have LifetimeCare. LifetimeCare gives free repairs for five years with round-trip shipping and one replacement if repair is not possible. After year five, repair support continues for the life of the suitcase and stays free in Away stores; elsewhere Away's pages say a reasonable service fee may apply, which Away confirms in advance, and round-trip shipping stays free. LifetimeCare Pro, listed at $35, extends free repairs to 10 years with up to two replacements and can be added at purchase or within 100 days afterward. Cosmetic wear and lost or stolen luggage are not covered. Bags and accessories have a one-year warranty instead.
What is Away's customer service phone number and email address?
Away does not publish a customer service phone number. Its Contact Us page offers live chat and an email form instead. Away lists [email protected] on its warranty, battery and Terms pages, and questions about the Terms, products or services can go to [email protected]. The Contact Us page lists phone numbers for individual Away stores, for example NYC Noho at (646) 649-3191 and NYC Williamsburg at (347) 955-9411, the same two numbers shown on the BBB profile. Stores handle in-store returns and repairs but cannot process warranty replacement orders.
Who operates Away and where is it based?
Away's Terms of Use say the site is provided by JRSK, Inc. (d/b/a Away). The warranty page lists the warrantor as JRSK, Inc. (d/b/a Away), 503 Broadway, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012, and the BBB profile lists the same business address. Away publishes it as the warrantor's address; that is the address to use if you are looking for its corporate office.
Can I sue Away or join a class action?
Usually not in regular court. Away's Terms of Use (Last Updated September 12, 2025) require binding, individual arbitration before the American Arbitration Association (www.adr.org, 1-800-778-7879) and waive class actions, unless you opted out within thirty days of first agreeing to the Terms; small claims court is allowed for individual claims, as long as the case is not removed or appealed to a court of general jurisdiction. The opt-out is a written notice sent to [email protected] or 82 Mercer Street, 3rd Floor, New York, NY 10012, with your full legal name, mailing and email addresses, phone number, a clear statement that you are opting out, and your signature. A federal class action naming JRSK, Inc. (Klaus v. JRSK, Inc.) was filed in December 2025 and voluntarily dismissed by the plaintiff in March 2026; the court did not rule on JRSK's motions to compel arbitration and to dismiss.
How do I remove the battery from an Away Carry-On?
Away's battery page says that on the current ejectable design you open the port, press down on the battery and release; on the original design you unzip the interior lining, use the included screwdriver to open the port and slide the battery out. A replacement screwdriver is free on request to [email protected], and Away will install the ejectable battery in an original-design Carry-On free. Airline rules differ: the 2018 Delta and United policies on Away's page call for removal on carried-on bags too, and American's for checked or valeted bags, so check your airline's current rule. Current Classic suitcases do not come with a battery.
Where can I complain about Away besides the company?
You can file a complaint on Away's BBB profile, with the attorney general of your own state, and with the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Away is based in New York; the New York Attorney General's complaint page lists "Consumer issues" as a category and an OAG Help Line, 1-800-771-7755. If you paid by card for something you did not receive or were not refunded for, your card issuer can open a dispute, subject to its own deadline.
How do I cancel an Away order?
Away's Holiday Shipping page says you can cancel within 30 minutes of checking out by finding your order at awaytravel.com/order-lookup. After that, Away says it can try to help with an address change through its contact form; if you want a different product, it suggests placing a new order and returning the original once it arrives. You can return an unused item within 100 days through orders.awaytravel.com/returns; original shipping fees are not refunded, and the refund may take up to two weeks. To close your account, the Terms say to email [email protected].
Is Away a scam?
Away is the luggage brand of JRSK, Inc., based at 503 Broadway in New York and founded in 2015. It sells at awaytravel.com, in its own stores in 12 US cities plus London and Toronto, and through authorized retailers. BBB rates it A+, and Away is not BBB Accredited; BBB shows 84 complaints in the last 3 years, mostly service or repair and product issues, and Trustpilot shows 4.7 out of 5 from 3,813 reviews. Customers' complaints describe warranty claims denied or disputed, repair kits sent instead of replacements, and support they could reach only by email or chat. Away's warranty excludes products from resellers that are not authorized retailers, so check the seller before paying for a deeply discounted bag elsewhere.
Is Away legit?
Away's Terms of Use name the operator as JRSK, Inc., doing business as Away, and its warranty page gives a New York warrantor address. What a buyer gets is set out in writing: free returns on unused items for 100 days, a warranty or LifetimeCare coverage on luggage, and one year on bags and accessories. The Terms of Use require individual arbitration and waive class actions unless you opt out within 30 days. Trustpilot reviewers mostly rate it highly, while BBB complaints center on service and repair claims, so read the warranty exclusions for cosmetic damage and keep your receipt.
Who owns Away and who is the CEO?
Jessica Schinazi is the CEO of Away, a position she took in 2025. Jen Rubio and Steph Korey founded the company in 2015; Rubio is executive chair of the board, and Korey stepped down as co-CEO in October 2020. Away is a private company operated by JRSK, Inc. The investors named in reports of its 2019 funding round were Wellington Management, Baillie Gifford, Lone Pine Capital and Global Founders Capital, with Forerunner Ventures and Accel as earlier backers; those reports do not give current stakes.
What do Away reviews and complaints say?
BBB shows 84 complaints about Away in the last 3 years, 41 of them service or repair issues and 25 product issues, and an A+ rating; Away is not BBB Accredited. Trustpilot shows 4.7 out of 5 from 3,813 reviews; 15 percent of reviews are one star. Low-star reviewers describe warranty disputes, do-it-yourself repair kits, wrong parts, broken handles and wheels, and no phone line to call. Trustpilot notes that Away invites customers to review it and has replied to 29 percent of negative reviews.
