Airwallex
Airwallex US, LLC is the San Francisco-based U.S. arm of Airwallex, a cross-border payments and business-account platform that says it was founded in Melbourne in 2015 and is co-headquartered in Singapore and San Francisco. Its standard U.S. agreement is for businesses; a separate consumer agreement covers individuals who use Airwallex through a third-party platform. This page collects what Airwallex's own pages say about account reviews, suspensions, fees and complaints, the registrations and licences we could open, an Australian AUSTRAC audit order that concerns the Australian group, a September 2026 congressional letter to the U.S. Treasury, and BBB and Trustpilot figures as displayed on October 3, 2026.

Frozen or restricted account, document requests, held balance: what Airwallex's own pages say and where to escalate
Airwallex's pages, opened on October 3, 2026 (U.S. site), set out the routes below. Where two Airwallex pages differ, both are shown. The Airwallex Service Agreement (last updated December 2, 2025, effective January 1, 2026) is "a legal agreement between you and Airwallex US, LLC" and says "we do not offer Services to individual consumers". A separate set, the Embedded Finance Consumer Terms (Airwallex Consumer Service Agreement, last updated November 17, 2025), applies to an individual "not acting in the pursuit of business" who uses Airwallex payment services through a third-party platform.
Find out which Airwallex company you contracted with. The Service Agreement says domestic payment services "may be provided as a Bank Service by Evolve Bank & Trust" and that, to find your provider, you should "log on to the Airwallex Dashboard". Airwallex's complaints article adds: "Please refer to your latest Airwallex invoice to confirm the specific Airwallex entity you are contracted with." Airwallex has separately licensed companies in other countries, so the entity decides which regulator and ombudsman applies.
A deposit, transfer or account under review. Airwallex's help article on missing deposits says a pending deposit means "Funds recognized and are under review, and usually takes less than one business day. In case there's a tag "RFI requires response", you will need to reply to the RFI or funds cannot be processed." It also says "due to regulatory obligations, Airwallex will in some cases reach out to you to request for supporting documents to process certain transactions" and to allow up to one business day for review once documents are submitted. For a deposit that has not appeared three days after sending, it asks for the date sent, the payment remittance advice or an MT103/UETR, the account name, number and routing number used, and says to contact support through the chatbot in the web app while logged in.
Funds shown as "reserved" for payment acceptance. Airwallex's documentation for its Payments product describes a separate mechanism: "A reserve is a temporary hold on a portion of your funds for a predetermined period", which it calls "a common industry practice to ensure that your business is able to cover disputes and refunds", and says "Reserves do not affect your ability to continue accepting payments with Airwallex." It lists three plan types: delayed settlement (the full amount of each transaction is held and settled on a fixed number of days after the transaction), rolling reserve (a percentage of each transaction is held for a fixed period) and mixed reserve (a combination). It says the size of a reserve "is determined based on the level of risk associated with any business", using factors such as industry conditions, payment activity, dispute rate, refund rate and financial stability. A reserve as described there is a hold tied to dispute and refund exposure on card payments; it is a different item from the document requests and suspension rights quoted below, and the page does not say which applies to a particular account.
What the business agreement lets Airwallex do. Section 4(c): "we may request additional information or documents from you when you register with us or any time thereafter." Section 4(d): "We reserve the right to suspend or limit access to our Services if we are unable to sufficiently verify your information." Section 15(b): "We reserve the right to terminate or suspend the Agreement and/or use of the Services, upon notice to you, at any time and for any reason including without limitation if:" followed by listed grounds, among them suspected criminal activity, a business that "presents an unacceptable risk to us or our Bank Partner", and a situation where "one of our Banking Partners, or other service provider necessary to provide the Services, requires us to terminate the Agreement." Section 15(c): "If we exercise our right of suspension, we will provide notice of suspension to where possible and the reasons for such suspension, either before the suspension is put in place, or immediately after, unless it would compromise Airwallex's reasonable security measures or otherwise be unlawful." On termination: "we will promptly make available for withdrawal any funds in your Wallet that are not otherwise restricted." Section 28 (Legal Orders) also says Airwallex may be required to comply with orders such as writs of attachment, liens, subpoenas or court orders and may take actions "such as holding payments, releasing your funds, or disclosing data". The consumer agreement (section 14) says: "We may terminate, upon notice to you, or suspend the Agreement and/or use of the Services at any time and for any reason."
Closing an account. Section 15(a) of the business agreement: close the account "by contacting Customer Support at 1-855-932-3331", and "You must withdraw any balance in your Wallet before closing it."
Where to complain.
- Airwallex U.S. support: +1 855 932 3331, which the state licences page describes as "US customers only. Available from 07:00-17:00 PT Monday - Friday".
- Formal complaint: the Help Center article "Making a Complaint" says to contact support first, and if you are not happy with the resolution you can use its "Make A Complaint" form or "Email us at [email protected]". It describes four steps (acknowledgement, gathering details, investigation, final response). It gives target response times for UK and Australian customers; for U.S. customers it says only "We will respond to your complaint in a prompt timeline."
- Escalation in the U.S., per the same article: "In the US, you can submit a complaint online with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or your state regulator." The CFPB's complaint page is consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ (phone (855) 411-2372).
- State routes listed on Airwallex's licences page include the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (1-866-275-2677) and, in Texas, the Texas Department of Banking (1-877-276-5554) after you first contact Airwallex; the page also lists contacts for Alaska, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Maryland and others, and a Washington refund notice.
Individuals using Airwallex through a platform (consumer terms). For an unauthorized transaction, the consumer agreement says to contact support at 1-855-932-3331 or by email, and that "As long as you inform us within 2 business days after you learn of the loss or theft of your login information or card, then you can lose no more than $50 on Unauthorized Transactions", rising to "as much as $500" if you do not. For errors, it says Airwallex "must hear from you no later than 60 days after the transaction in question became visible in the Platform"; it will determine whether an error occurred within 10 business days, may take up to 45 days (crediting the disputed amount within 10 business days in that case), and up to 90 days for new accounts, point-of-sale or foreign-initiated transactions. The same section adds an exception for new accounts: "For new accounts, we may take up to 20 business days to credit your account for the amount you think is in error." Complaints about payout services: 1-855-932-3331 or 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105.
Arbitration and the 30-day opt-out. The business agreement (section 25) requires individual arbitration administered by the AAA in San Francisco, with a class-action waiver and a small-claims option, unless you opt out: "You have the right to opt out ... by sending written notice ... to: Airwallex, 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor San Francisco, CA 94105, within thirty (30) days after first becoming subject to this Arbitration Agreement." The consumer agreement contains a similar 30-day opt-out clause. A notice of dispute must be sent 30 days before arbitration is started.
Regulator and government items: AUSTRAC audit order, congressional letter, partner-bank action, and U.S. sources checked
Australia: AUSTRAC external-audit order (January 22, 2026). AUSTRAC's media release says it "has ordered the appointment of an external auditor to assess whether payment platform, Airwallex Designated Business Group (Airwallex DBG), is meeting its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) obligations, following concerns about potential non-compliance." The auditor, appointed under section 162 of the AML/CTF Act 2006, examines whether the business maintains and follows an AML/CTF program, operates an ongoing customer due diligence program and meets suspicious-matter reporting obligations; findings are due "within 180 days of appointment", at Airwallex DBG's expense, and the outcome will "inform AUSTRAC whether any further regulatory action is required." AUSTRAC's CEO is quoted: "AUSTRAC is concerned with Airwallex's transaction monitoring program has not been attuned to the full range of risks it faces and that the company hasn't demonstrated an acceptable understanding of who its customers are and what reporting may be required." AUSTRAC lists the notice under "Airwallex Pty Ltd" on its written-notices page. These are the regulator's stated concerns, not findings; the release states no fine. Airwallex's response the same day says it "will be co-operating fully", that it is "confident that our AML/CTF compliance program is fit for purpose", and that "any customer unable to comply is promptly terminated from our platform." No published audit outcome was identified on the AUSTRAC and Airwallex pages opened on October 3, 2026: AUSTRAC's written-notices page ("Last updated: 25 Sep 2026") lists the "Airwallex Pty Ltd" notice among its 2026 entries as a PDF and posts no audit report; the release ties the 180 days to the auditor's appointment, and the appointment date is not stated on that page, so this page draws no conclusion about a deadline. The order concerns Airwallex's Australian group, not Airwallex US, LLC; Airwallex's Help Center says Airwallex Pty Ltd, Airwallex SVF Pty Ltd and Airwallex Capital Pty Ltd form one Australian designated business group.
U.S. Congress: letter to the Treasury Secretary (September 17, 2026). The House Select Committee on China published that its Chairman, Rep. John Moolenaar, sent a letter to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about Airwallex. The committee release quotes the letter: "Airwallex's corporate structure creates a pathway by which sensitive U.S. financial data may be accessible to entities operating under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China (PRC)", and asks Treasury to "assess whether existing regulatory authorities are triggered by Airwallex's operations". It also says: "this letter is intended to be informational; it has not reached the conclusion that Airwallex has engaged in unlawful conduct." Airwallex's published reply (blog update of September 18, 2026) says the committee's own technical analysis "found no covert data-exfiltration channels, no hidden PRC infrastructure and no obfuscated communications", that "U.S. customer data is stored in the U.S.", and that staff based in China and Hong Kong "cannot access U.S. customer data". The reply attributes earlier allegations to a board member of one of its direct competitors. The Treasury's response, if any, was not identified.
Press coverage, September 2026 (reporters' accounts, not regulator findings). The Sydney Morning Herald (an opinion column, September 23, 2026) says the AUSTRAC probe "is ongoing" and that the audit put plans for a 2026 Nasdaq listing "on ice" (the newspaper's description, not AUSTRAC's; the column adds that AUSTRAC has made no mention of China). It describes public exchanges between Airwallex's chief executive and Keith Rabois, whom it identifies as a board member of rival Ramp, and says Airwallex's chief executive wrote to the congressional committee. Capital Brief (September 25, 2026; the article is partly behind a paywall and only the open part was read) reports that earlier that week a second member of Congress raised concerns about "structural" risks relating to Airwallex's Chinese entities, staff and investors, and that Airwallex rejected the claims. The two outlets give different valuations ($16 billion and $15 billion), and Capital Brief says Airwallex holds 89 regulatory licences and has more than 675,000 business customers. These figures differ from the company's own statements elsewhere on this page (the $11 billion valuation in its June 2026 Series H release, and its customer counts) and are not reconciled or combined with them.
Partner bank: Evolve Bank & Trust (June 14, 2024). Airwallex's pages say that "For some U.S. customers, Airwallex partners with Evolve Bank & Trust (Member FDIC) to provide payment services." The Federal Reserve Board's press release of June 14, 2024 says it "issued an enforcement action against Evolve Bancorp, Inc. and Evolve Bank & Trust ... for deficiencies in the bank's anti-money laundering, risk management, and consumer compliance programs", and that the action is "independent of the bankruptcy proceedings regarding Synapse Financial Technologies, Inc." That action is against the bank, not Airwallex; whether it has since been modified or terminated was not established: no termination notice was identified on the Federal Reserve pages opened on October 3, 2026, and that absence is a limit of the pages checked, not a finding that the action remains in force.
What other U.S. sources checked on October 3, 2026 showed. The California DFPI entity page for Airwallex US, LLC (money transmitter licence ID 2669; read through a text renderer on October 3, 2026) states: "DFPI has not posted any enforcement actions against this entity." That page gives 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, while DFPI's Money Transmitter Directory page, opened the same day, lists the same licence and institution name at "2 Embarcadero Center, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94111" with the phone number 415-490-7931 (a number DFPI publishes for the licence entry, separate from Airwallex's customer-support line); the two DFPI pages differ and neither is treated here as the registered office. FINRA BrokerCheck's report for Airwallex Capital (US) LLC (CRD 332388), a separate U.S. broker-dealer, answers "Are there events disclosed about this firm?" with "No" (report opened October 3, 2026; it covers that firm only, not Airwallex US, LLC). The CFPB's enforcement-actions page returned no results when filtered for "airwallex". California's data-breach list showed "no published reported breaches" for "airwallex". NMLS Consumer Access, the national licence database, sits behind a verification page that was not bypassed, so its live record was not read; an NMLS printout dated January 20, 2024 and hosted by Airwallex shows "Regulatory Actions : None posted in NMLS" as of that date. A keyword search of the FTC case library could not be completed, and enforcement databases of states other than California were not searched individually, so these checks do not amount to a nationwide clearance.
Who Airwallex is, who runs the U.S. service, licences, partner banks and fees
Who operates the U.S. service. Airwallex's privacy policy (last updated February 26, 2026) names Airwallex US, LLC at 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105, with Airwallex Digital (US) LLC, Airwallex Capital US and T0 Finance LLC as other U.S. controllers "depending on the services provided". The company's NMLS identification number is 1928093. A BBB profile for Airwallex US, LLC lists the type of entity as a limited liability company; BBB's raw data gives a business start of December 13, 2015 and incorporation of October 2, 2018 (an NMLS printout hosted by Airwallex gives Delaware, formed 10/02/2018). The company's About page says that in 2015 its CEO and fellow entrepreneurs launched a coffee shop in Melbourne and that Airwallex grew from that experience, and that in 2025 it "adopted a dual-headquarters model spanning Singapore and San Francisco". The Singapore company is Airwallex (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., which the Monetary Authority of Singapore's directory lists as a Major Payment Institution. Florida's Division of Corporations record (opened October 3, 2026) shows Airwallex US, LLC as a Delaware foreign limited liability company, filed 11/01/2019, status active, with an annual report filed 02/19/2026 and principal and mailing address 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco (changed 02/19/2026). It lists two managers and one member, "Airwallex (Cayman) Limited", under "Authorized Person(s)"; it does not state ownership percentages or who controls the member, and no other corporate record of the ownership chain was opened. The same Florida search for "Airwallex" also lists Airwallex Capital (US) LLC, Airwallex CommerceLink (US) LLC and Airwallex Digital (US) LLC with status active.
What it offers. Business accounts that collect and hold funds in many currencies, FX conversion and transfers, corporate cards, expense management and bill pay, payment acceptance and billing tools, and a USD "Yield" product (the company's terms index lists an "Airwallex Capital US LLC Customer Agreement" for it). FINRA BrokerCheck lists the related broker-dealer as AIRWALLEX CAPITAL (US) LLC, CRD 332388, SEC 8-71282, main office 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, formed in Delaware on 06/24/2024, with SEC and FINRA registration shown as approved effective 10/15/2025. BrokerCheck names Airwallex Capital Holding (Singapore) Pte Ltd as direct shareholder (75% or more) and Airwallex (Cayman) Ltd as an indirect owner (75% or more) of that broker-dealer; it does not state how Airwallex US, LLC relates to either. Airwallex does not describe itself as a bank: its Help Center says "Although Airwallex is not itself a bank, we partner with banks worldwide to offer our services."
Where the money is held: two Airwallex pages. The Help Center article "How does Airwallex keep my money safe" says U.S. banking partnerships "are designed to provide our customers' funds with Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance coverage of up to $250,000 per qualified customer account, per banking institution", that Evolve holds funds in an "FDIC-insurance-eligible omnibus account", and that customer funds "are not available for Airwallex's operational needs". The Airwallex Consumer Service Agreement says: "Value held as a balance in your Wallet represents an unsecured claim against Airwallex and is not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) or any other deposit protection scheme." Both are shown because both are published on Airwallex's own site, in different documents (a Help Center article and the consumer agreement); neither page says how the two relate for a given account. For context, the FDIC's own guidance on pass-through coverage says deposits held by a third party for principals are insured on a pass-through basis "only if all of the following three requirements are met": the funds must in fact be owned by the principal, the bank's account records must indicate the agency nature of the account, and records of the bank or another party must identify the principals and their ownership interests; it adds that if they are not met, the deposits "could result in uninsured deposits", and that the FDIC reviews the arrangement "at the time the IDI fails". Airwallex's pages do not say whether these conditions are met for a given account, and this page does not assess it.
Registrations and licences that could be opened.
- FinCEN MSB Registrant Search (queried October 3, 2026 for "Airwallex"): four entries, including Airwallex US, LLC at 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, with an authorization signature date and received date of 12/20/2024. FinCEN's search page itself warns that fraudsters use the MSB registration process and says "You should not trust a company only because it is listed".
- California DFPI: Airwallex US, LLC listed as a money transmitter, licence ID 2669 (read through a text renderer because the DFPI site showed a verification page to the browser). DFPI's entity page gives 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105; its Money Transmitter Directory page lists the same licence with 2 Embarcadero Center, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94111 (both read October 3, 2026).
- FINRA BrokerCheck (report for Airwallex Capital (US) LLC, CRD 332388, opened October 3, 2026): registered with the SEC, one self-regulatory organization (FINRA) and 53 U.S. states and territories; "Are there events disclosed about this firm? No". This is the broker-dealer affiliate, not the money-transmitter entity.
- Airwallex's state licences page: money transmitter licences in 45 jurisdictions listed under NMLS (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), plus Florida, New Jersey and the U.S. Virgin Islands in a separate table; Montana is shown as not requiring a licence. The live NMLS record was not accessible on October 3, 2026 (verification page, not bypassed), so the company-hosted January 2024 printout is not treated as current. The same company gives other figures elsewhere: its Help Center says it "currently holds MTLs in 40 states", and a CEO blog post of September 2026 says it "operates as a licensed money transmitter in 45 U.S. states". Individual state certificates were not each checked.
- Singapore: Airwallex (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. is shown in the MAS Financial Institutions Directory as a Major Payment Institution (account issuance, domestic and cross-border money transfer, merchant acquisition and e-money issuance). Airwallex's Help Center lists licences of its other group companies in Australia, the UK, the EU, Hong Kong and elsewhere; those were taken as company statements.
Banks behind the service. Airwallex's pages say "Airwallex Borderless Card is issued by Community Federal Savings Bank, Member FDIC, pursuant to a license from VISA U.S.A. Inc." and that Evolve Bank & Trust provides payment services to some U.S. customers. Its terms index also lists agreements titled "Cross River Bank Acquirer Terms" and "Commercial Entity Agreement with JP Morgan Chase" (titles only; not reviewed).
Fees (Airwallex's pages, opened October 3, 2026). The Fee Schedule for customers of Airwallex US, LLC (last updated September 18, 2026) lists: Explore plan $0 per month; Grow plan "$12 per Spend User per month" plus a platform fee; FX at a 0.50% margin for listed major currencies and 1.00% for others (included in the exchange rate); SWIFT transfers $15 (SHA, including RTGS and Fedwire) or $25 (OUR), and, under receiving funds in Global Accounts, 0.60% for KRW, VND, BRL and MYR collections, "$15 for US Fedwire collections" and 0% for other currencies. It also lists fees of $1 to $7 per transfer (0.10% for CNY) for international transfers via local networks and its footnote 3 says these "take effect on 12 October 2026" and "do not apply to Grow and Accelerate customers". The pricing page lists "Free batch transfers to 120+ countries" and "Fast, local transfers to 120+ countries" under the plans; the two pages are quoted as published and not reconciled here.
Recent company news (Airwallex newsroom). June 25, 2026: a $320 million Series H round led by Addition at a stated $11 billion valuation ("up from its $8 billion valuation in December 2025"); June 4, 2026: acquisition of Leapfin, a revenue-recognition and reconciliation software company; January 21, 2026: acquisition of Paynuri (Korea), which the newsroom summary describes as securing "key financial licenses" there; December 8, 2025: acquisition of majority ownership of PT Skye Sab Indonesia, which the newsroom describes as a PJP Category 1 licence holder; April 9, 2026: appointment of Carolyn Renzin as Chief Regulatory and Compliance Officer; August 13, 2026: Affirm payment options for U.S. merchants; September 1, 2026: launch of "T:0", an accounting product. These newsroom items describe business abroad and did not name any U.S. customer action. The company's own customer counts differ by date and wording ("more than 200,000 businesses" for 2025 on its About page; "more than 250,000 customers globally" in the June 2026 Leapfin release; "46,000 U.S. businesses" in the September 2026 blog post). These are company statements.
Complaint record: USAComplaints posts, BBB, Trustpilot, CFPB database and ComplaintsBoard, reported separately
On this site. USAComplaints has no approved posts naming Airwallex (searched in the offender field, titles and text for Airwallex and common misspellings on October 3, 2026), so no themes are shown for this company.
BBB. BBB profile for Airwallex US, LLC, San Francisco, CA, as displayed on October 3, 2026: "NOT BBB Accredited", rating F, with BBB's stated reasons "Failure to respond to 13 complaint(s) filed against business" and "13 complaint(s) filed against business". The complaints tab shows "13 total complaints in the last 3 years" and "6 complaints closed in the last 12 months"; BBB's complaint-type filter counts Product Issues (6), Billing Issues (5), Customer Service Issues (1) and Order Issues (1), together the 13, and its status filter shows "Complaint Unanswered (13)". The page displays 10 complaint texts (dated March 2025 to August 2026), each labelled "Unanswered", and notes that displayed text "might not represent all complaints filed with BBB". The page does not show whether Airwallex replied outside BBB. The reviews tab shows 1 out of 5 stars from 2 customer reviews. BBB's raw data lists the file opened on 2022-01-09, business started 2015-12-13 and incorporated 2018-10-02. A BBB rating is BBB's own assessment; BBB complaints are allegations.
Trustpilot. Trustpilot profile for airwallex.com (a global domain profile, not limited to the U.S. entity), as displayed on October 3, 2026: claimed profile, 2.9 out of 5 from 2,582 reviews, 480 of them in the last 12 months; the star split shown is 57% five-star, 5% four-star, 1% three-star, 1% two-star and 36% one-star. Trustpilot shows "No recent history of asking for reviews" and says the company "hasn't invited customers recently, so reviews may not be representative"; it also shows "Replied to 97% of negative reviews". Trustpilot's AI-generated summary says some customers appreciate onboarding help and ease of use, and describes the payment topic as "widespread frustration over frozen funds"; that is Trustpilot's automated summary, not our finding. In a reply dated September 15, 2026 to a one-star review about restricted funds, Airwallex wrote: "In some circumstances, additional checks may be required and certain account activity may be restricted while those checks are ongoing", and said it could not discuss account-specific details in public.
CFPB Consumer Complaint Database. On October 3, 2026 the CFPB company-name lookup returned no match for "airwallex", "air wallex" or "Airwallex US", and a full-text search of the database for "airwallex" returned 0 of 18,145,013 records (data last updated October 2, 2026). The CFPB accepts complaints about financial products and services even if a company does not appear in the public database.
ComplaintsBoard. A search for "airwallex" on October 3, 2026 displayed "No reviews matching" the term.
The counts above come from different sources, cover different periods and entities, and are not combined.
Court record found in the sources checked
A CourtListener RECAP search on October 3, 2026 by case name ("Airwallex") returned one federal docket, and a search by party name ("Airwallex") returned three: the patent case below and two dockets that carry other parties' names in the case title. All three were opened on that date. CourtListener covers only dockets in its RECAP archive and is not a complete record. No consumer class action or court-approved consumer settlement involving Airwallex US, LLC was identified in the sources checked. In the Airwallex Service Agreement, business customers agree to individual arbitration and a class-action waiver unless they opt out within 30 days (see the first section). The Loewe docket below is described in the text only and is not in the table of cases, because Airwallex Hong Kong Limited appears on it as a movant, not as a defendant.
GG Network LLC v. Wells Fargo NA, S.D. Fla. No. 0:25-cv-62240 (filed November 6, 2025). The docket names GG Network LLC as plaintiff and Wells Fargo NA, Community Federal Savings Bank and Airwallex US LLC as defendants, lists the cause as "28:1332 Diversity-Breach of Contract" (nature of suit 150, contract recovery/enforcement), and describes the filing as a "COMPLAINT for damages against All Defendants". The docket text available on CourtListener does not state the facts or the claims. It shows two entries titled "Dismiss for Failure to State a Claim" (December 15, 2025 and January 9, 2026; the listing does not show which defendant filed each), responses in opposition and replies in January 2026, and an "Order Dismissing/Closing Case or Party" entered on September 21, 2026 (entry 28). The order itself is not in the RECAP archive, so whether it ended the whole case or only one party, and whether with or without prejudice, was not established.
Loewe, S.A. v. Beijing Onward Fashion Co., Ltd., S.D.N.Y. No. 1:24-cv-08871 (filed November 21, 2024) is a trademark case brought by Loewe against many sellers. Its party list shows "Airwallex Hong Kong Limited" as a "Movant", represented by counsel; it is not listed as a defendant, and the docket text opened did not describe what the motion sought. This is a different Airwallex company from Airwallex US, LLC.
Intercurrency Software LLC v. Airwallex (Singapore) Pty. Ltd., E.D. Tex. No. 2:24-cv-01011, filed December 9, 2024 (docket cause "35:271 Patent Infringement"), is a commercial patent dispute. The docket shows that a consolidation order was entered in April 2025, that an order dismissing the defendant Airwallex (Singapore) was signed on May 6, 2025, that a joint stipulation of dismissal with prejudice was filed on September 12, 2025, and that an order dismissing the case with prejudice was signed on September 19, 2025. Is Airwallex Legitimate?
FinCEN's MSB Registrant Search, queried on October 3, 2026, lists Airwallex US, LLC at 188 Spear Street, 9th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94105 (authorization signature date 12/20/2024). The California DFPI lists Airwallex US, LLC as a money transmitter with licence ID 2669 and its entity page says it has posted no enforcement actions against the entity (DFPI's entity page and its Money Transmitter Directory give different San Francisco addresses for the licence). FINRA BrokerCheck lists the affiliated broker-dealer Airwallex Capital (US) LLC (CRD 332388) with no disclosure events reported. Airwallex's state licences page lists NMLS #1928093 and money transmitter licences in dozens of states; individual state certificates and the live NMLS record were not checked (NMLS Consumer Access showed a verification page that was not bypassed). The Monetary Authority of Singapore's directory lists Airwallex (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. as a Major Payment Institution.
Other facts that bear on the question, each described above: AUSTRAC (Australia) ordered an external AML/CTF audit of Airwallex's Australian designated business group on January 22, 2026 and has published no outcome that we found; a September 17, 2026 congressional letter asked the Treasury to assess data-access risks and says no unlawful conduct has been concluded; the BBB and Trustpilot figures, with their dates and limits, are in the complaint-record section above and are BBB's and Trustpilot's own displays, not findings; the CFPB database showed no records mentioning Airwallex on the date checked.
What this page cannot tell you: whether a particular account restriction was justified (Airwallex says it cannot discuss account-specific details publicly), which Airwallex entity holds a given account, or whether FDIC pass-through coverage applies to it (Airwallex's two pages differ). Registration or licensing on a public register is a regulatory status, not a quality rating.

The order itself was not available, so whether it ended the whole case or only one party, and whether with or without prejudice, is not established. Frequently Asked Questions
Why can an Airwallex account be restricted or frozen, and what does Airwallex say it will do?
Airwallex's Service Agreement lets it "request additional information or documents from you ... any time" and "suspend or limit access to our Services if we are unable to sufficiently verify your information" (section 4). Section 15(b) allows suspension or termination "at any time and for any reason", listing grounds such as suspected criminal activity, "an unacceptable risk to us or our Bank Partner" or a banking partner requiring it. Section 15(c) says that on suspension it "will provide notice of suspension to where possible and the reasons for such suspension, either before the suspension is put in place, or immediately after, unless it would compromise Airwallex's reasonable security measures or otherwise be unlawful." In a public reply on Trustpilot dated September 15, 2026 Airwallex wrote that "additional checks may be required and certain account activity may be restricted while those checks are ongoing." The sections quoted do not set a fixed deadline for completing a review. Separately, Airwallex's Payments documentation describes "reserves" (delayed-settlement, rolling and mixed plans) as "a temporary hold on a portion of your funds for a predetermined period" tied to dispute and refund risk, which is a different mechanism from a document request or suspension.
How do I complain about Airwallex in the U.S.?
Airwallex's Help Center says to contact support first (U.S. phone +1 855 932 3331, 07:00-17:00 PT Monday to Friday, per its licences page), and if you are still unhappy to use its "Make A Complaint" form or email [email protected]. For the U.S. it says: "you can submit a complaint online with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau or your state regulator." The CFPB's complaint page is consumerfinance.gov/complaint/. The licences page lists state contacts, for example the California Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (1-866-275-2677) and, in Texas, the Texas Department of Banking (1-877-276-5554) after first contacting Airwallex.
Is Airwallex a bank, and are funds held with it FDIC insured?
Airwallex's Help Center says "Although Airwallex is not itself a bank, we partner with banks worldwide" and that U.S. banking partnerships "are designed to provide our customers' funds with Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance coverage of up to $250,000 per qualified customer account, per banking institution", with Evolve Bank & Trust holding funds in an "FDIC-insurance-eligible omnibus account". The Airwallex Consumer Service Agreement says: "Value held as a balance in your Wallet represents an unsecured claim against Airwallex and is not insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) or any other deposit protection scheme." Both are Airwallex's own published statements; the FDIC's guidance states conditions for pass-through coverage (funds owned by the principal, account records showing the agency nature, and records identifying the principals and their interests) and says that if they are not met the deposits "could result in uninsured deposits". Check which terms apply to your account.
What licences and registrations does Airwallex US, LLC have?
Airwallex's licences page gives NMLS ID 1928093 and lists money transmitter or equivalent licences in 45 jurisdictions under NMLS (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), plus Florida, New Jersey and the U.S. Virgin Islands; Montana is shown as requiring no licence. FinCEN's MSB Registrant Search lists Airwallex US, LLC (signature date 12/20/2024), and the California DFPI lists it as a money transmitter with licence ID 2669 (DFPI's entity page gives 188 Spear Street; its Money Transmitter Directory lists 2 Embarcadero Center, 8th Floor, San Francisco, CA 94111). FINRA BrokerCheck separately lists the affiliated broker-dealer Airwallex Capital (US) LLC, CRD 332388. Airwallex's own figures for the number of states differ between its pages (40 states in the Help Center, 45 in a September 2026 blog post). The live NMLS record could not be read because of a verification page.
What did AUSTRAC order, and does it affect U.S. customers?
On January 22, 2026 AUSTRAC announced that it had ordered an external auditor to assess whether the Airwallex Designated Business Group in Australia is meeting its AML/CTF obligations, "following concerns about potential non-compliance"; findings are due within 180 days of the auditor's appointment, at Airwallex's expense. AUSTRAC states concerns about transaction monitoring, customer identification and suspicious-matter reporting; it does not state a penalty or a finding of breach. Airwallex said it is "co-operating fully" and is confident its program is fit for purpose. The order concerns Airwallex's Australian group; no published audit outcome was identified on October 3, 2026.
What did the September 2026 congressional letter about Airwallex say?
On September 17, 2026 the House Select Committee on China published a letter from its Chairman to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent asking Treasury to review whether Airwallex's structure could give PRC-jurisdiction entities access to U.S. financial data and to brief the committee. The committee's release says the letter "is intended to be informational; it has not reached the conclusion that Airwallex has engaged in unlawful conduct." Airwallex replied that the committee's own technical analysis found no covert data-exfiltration channels (its description), that U.S. customer data is stored in the U.S., and that staff in China and Hong Kong cannot access it. These are the committee's and the company's statements, not findings by Treasury.
How do I report an unauthorized transaction or an error on an Airwallex consumer account?
This applies to individuals using Airwallex through a platform under the Consumer Service Agreement. It says to contact support immediately at 1-855-932-3331 or by email if login details or a card are lost or stolen; if you inform Airwallex within 2 business days "you can lose no more than $50", otherwise "as much as $500". For other errors it must "hear from you no later than 60 days after the transaction in question became visible in the Platform", will decide within 10 business days, may take up to 45 days (with a provisional credit within 10 business days), and up to 90 days for new accounts, point-of-sale or foreign-initiated transactions. For new accounts it adds: "we may take up to 20 business days to credit your account for the amount you think is in error." Business accounts are governed by the Service Agreement, which has different terms.
How do I close an Airwallex business account and withdraw my balance?
The Service Agreement says you can close the account "by contacting Customer Support at 1-855-932-3331" and "must withdraw any balance in your Wallet before closing it"; an account with a negative balance cannot be closed. If Airwallex terminates the service, it says it "will promptly make available for withdrawal any funds in your Wallet that are not otherwise restricted". The agreement also says Airwallex may hold payments to comply with legal orders. If a balance is not released after closure, the formal complaint route and the CFPB or state regulator routes described above apply.
What fees does Airwallex US charge?
Airwallex's U.S. Fee Schedule (last updated September 18, 2026) lists the Explore plan at $0 per month and the Grow plan at "$12 per Spend User per month" plus a platform fee, FX margins of 0.50% (listed major currencies) or 1.00% (others) included in the exchange rate, and SWIFT transfer fees of $15 (SHA) or $25 (OUR), and a fee of "$15 for US Fedwire collections" for receiving funds. It also lists per-transfer fees of $1 to $7 for international transfers via local networks which, per footnote 3, "take effect on 12 October 2026" and do not apply to Grow and Accelerate customers. Airwallex's pricing page separately lists "Free batch transfers to 120+ countries"; the pricing page also says terms and additional fees and charges may apply and points to the detailed fee schedule.
