Blatant overcharging on hotel reservations

We made a reservation for 2 nights in Indiana thru Priceline. We were assured that the rate was the best available. We paid $320.88 for 2 nights, charged to our credit card at the time the reservation was made (no refunds). When we arrived at the Hotel and upon check-in, the clerk inadvertently showed the Folio with a rate for 2 nights of $258.88. When questioned about the rate, the clerk informed me that had we made the reservation directly, we would have paid the lower rate, but that Priceline marks it up. That a 24% mark-up! And friends that made the reservation directly with the hotel, paid the lower amount.

Upon return, we contacted Priceline, complaining of the overcharging. The customer service department (located in the Phillipines) attempted to tell us that we could not get the lower rate directly with the Hotel and some mumbo-jumbo about purchasing blocks of rooms at a discount and sorry about our luck but we agreed with the price at the time of the reservation... Oh, and Priceline needs to make a profit... And so sorry but Priceline will not refund the difference... It's not the money... It is the deceptive practices.

This brings me to reflect on all of the vacation travel, hotel, airline, automobile rentals, and the thousands and thousands of dollars we have spent thru Priceline over the years. I would have to conclude that we have been ripped off for years... But no more as We have just lost the number to Priceline... But even though they would not do what it takes to keep a customer happy, they did tell me to " have a nice day".
