Early Cancellation Fee of $320 Never Disclosed After Five Years

I had been with DirecTV for five years. In March the receiver broke and I called to ask the cost of a replacement. I was told the cost would be $29.99 for shipping. In May of this year we found a much cheaper service; my husband has been laid off for 22 months, so cost is very important. When I called to cancel, they said there was a $320.00 early cancellation fee.

I spoke with 2 salespeople and a supervisor, and they all said I should have been told, but the point I was trying to make is that I was not told, and to me this is fraud. I called the BBB and they tried to help but could not do much. They have 17,000 complaints against DirecTV. With everything going digital in February, more people will be going with satellite and this fraud will continue. I hope this warning will help someone.
