Salesman Promised One-Year Contract but Directv Charged Cancellation Fee

One night a guy from Directv came knocking to our door offering Directv. He told us that it was going to be a 1 year contract. So the contract exp. on 2/22 and when I called Directv they told me it a 2 year contract which that wasn't told to us by the guy that came our home.
I never sign any contract with them everything was done by phone. The last time I called Directv was 2/23 to cancel my service and they charged me $ 240 for cancellation and the bill that I had. They gave me the number of the dealer and when I called the guy told me that sometimes sales people lie to make the sale.
The reason why I needed to cancel it was because I lost my job and the only one working is my husband and we have to little girls and we couldn't afford to pay $90 per month. Please if anybody can help us with problem we really appreciated because is not fair to be told something and ends up to be a lie.
