Cancellation Fee and Collection Calls After Returning Equipment

DirectTV was our provider. The opening months went fine. Then money got tight and we could not pay the bill. We do not object to the service being shut off, since that was only natural.

When our finances recovered, we phoned to pay off the balance. They promised that service would come back within 24 hours of the account being current. We sat and waited for the signal to be restored.

Two days later it still had not, so we called again. This time we heard that they wanted a major credit or debit card kept on file for automatic payments. No way would we agree to that.

We said we no longer wanted anything to do with them and that they should pick up their gear. Naturally they do not do that. Instead, two FedEx boxes arrived for sending the equipment back.

The day the boxes came, I packed everything straight away and phoned FedEx. The FedEx representative surprised me by asking whether there were two boxes. Now I see why he already knew.

As soon as FedEx had picked up the boxes, harassing calls began from Focus Receivables Management. We contested what they called cancellation charges, and they told us to talk to DirectTV.

Now this Focus company places an automated call to us, and the line goes dead as soon as we answer.

We are grateful to have closed that debit card. Having read the horror stories here, I am sure they would have withdrawn money without any authorization.

Never give this outfit any kind of credit or debit card!!!
