$300 Early Cancellation Fee After Receiver Swap Reset Contract

I have been with Direct TV since Jan. 05. In Feb. 08 I had to have a faulty receiver replaced. They own the receiver. I cancelled the service on May 13. They then billed my credit card $300 for an early cancellation fee. They claim that when their equipment breaks and they replace it, a new 18 month contract takes effect. I was not notified in writing or orally at any time after they replaced the part that malfunctioned.

I wrote a letter to their Billing Dispute Department. The answer I received was, in essence, calling me a liar, since they claimed all their agents always give full details at the time of reordering parts. No proof of this statement was given. They lie and get away with theft.
