$260 Early Termination Fee After Ordering a Replacement Receiver

I called Direct TV yesterday to cancel my service. They then informed me that there would be a $260.00 early termination fee. In April 08 I called and ordered another receiver because the one I had was older and affecting the picture quality of my TV. The explanation I got from them was that when I ordered the new receiver it was for a service upgrade, which was not the case, and that I entered into a verbal contract to extend my service with them another 18 months.

Not only are they being deceptive about the verbal contract I entered into, but also about the reason I ordered a new receiver in the first place.
