Construction & Repair

I am contacting Sears on behalf of my 88 and 89 year old parents who live in Silver Springs, Nevada. On Jan 14 they purchased a Frigidaire Washer/Dryer pair from the Fallon Nevada Home Store. They had to pay an extra $60.00 for delivery and set-up because they live "out of the area" (25 miles from them and on line they say they have free delivery). They delivery was the following Saturday Jan 21. The installers had trouble disconnecting the hose of the old dryer from the faucet and wound up breaking the pvc water pipe in their laundry room spewing water everywhere. My parents supplied the towels to clean up the water, after having to turn off the water to the entire house. The installer made a phone call, my mother said, and turned to her and said there was nothing they could do further. They left leaving my parents to believe they would be back later or someone would contact them. They waited until Sunday morning and called Sears. They were told by the person there that "the installer said you'd be responsible for fixing the pipe on the delivery paperwork". My mother was very upset by this remark as she had never said this at all! Why would they at their ages, depending on an "expert" delivery and setup person to know what they were supposed to be doing. She informed the representative of Sears she nor my father had said this to the installer. The Rep then informed her that they would send out a person on Monday to fix the problem and finally install the Washer/dryer set. My father then went 25 miles to a hardware store and bought the necessary parts to fix the pipes as they had already been without water for more than 24 hours. I think that these people took advantage of my parents and their age, broke their water pipes and left them without water which I believe to be senior abuse. If they had waited they would have been without water for more than 36 hours and for them that is too long! In my opinion 24 hours or even 5 hours is more than necessary! I would like to see Sears not only refund the delivery set up charge of $60.00 but I think they should also pay for the parts needed to repair the waterlines, and the labor my aged father had to use to fix it himself at the rate of normal plumbing charges. I think they should be refunded the gas and inconvience also!
