Charged $45 for Three Payoff Faxes Sent to Other People

Citimortgage: dishonest, fraudulent billing for a fax requested by another mortgage company. It is about the principle of consumer privacy that we feel angry with these people.

I wrote to you a while back because we had a problem with Citi Financial of North Carolina. You helped me a lot. My case is still pending with the district attorney of that area. The case was about the fact that we paid the total amount of the mortgage and they were still sending bills saying that my account was still open. This matter is still in progress, but unfortunately last month First National Mortgage merged with this company, so with our bad luck we are back with them again.

We started making our first payment on May first. We requested our payoff amount because we are trying to get rid of these people. We already had one bad experience and do not want to have another, but we are starting with bad news.

They are sending the payoff amount to two or three more people we do not know. They are charging us $15.00 for each payoff amount they send out and charging it to our account. We asked for just one through the automatic system, which at no point in the message mentioned a charge. For us to know the amount verbally would have been more than enough, but anyway they sent the fax, and now it is on the statement.

They sent the bill to us for information somebody else requested. We do not know why these people are releasing our information to somebody else without our consent. They say it is our responsibility to pay for the three faxes, a cost of $45.00.

We are very disappointed with these people. How many times do they release information without a customer's consent and bill them without their knowledge? It is not about the money we have to pay. It is about the principle of consumer privacy that we feel angry about.

They told us this is an honest business, what they are doing. We do not believe it. In less than a month since they merged with our old mortgage company, they are releasing our information to people we did not hire to do so. Why do they not charge the people who requested it? This is unfair, dishonest, and a fraudulent way of doing business. Maybe it is not just us, but many, or thousands.
