Ripoff, Dishonest And Very Rude!

Our home was originally financed through a well known bank. Then it was transferred to Vanderbilt Mortgage. We originally financed 31,300 for our home that was 6 years ago. We just called vanderbilt to get the payoff amount and they said we owe $27000.
How can that be? Over the 6 years we have had this we have paid $25,200. And the ONLY information we can get out of Vanderbilt is the payoff information, nothong else. When we try and get other information they get very rude with us. We are looking to sell this house but now I am kinda scared about sending Vanderbilt payoff! Help!!!
