Never Get DIRECTV - contract

I spent like 2 days on the phone trying to make sure I didn't get screwed. Then I husband got on to conform what they were telling me. I was told directv was not a contract it was a customer agreement and she told me all I would have to pay was $20 to cancel. I wasn't sure I wanted to try directv and that's why the lady was like " just try it and if you don't like it cancel for only $20" so I thought why not. Now it turns out I want to cancel because the keep charging me extra fees for I don't know what and they told me ok you can cancel for $20 per month left on contract. So then they told me to write a letter to get all this mess fixed and so I took the time to write one and it didn't make a difference. Is there someone I can talk to that's higher than customer service about this problem?
