Get it in Writing!

I had Directv tv. I purchased a new HD tv. It just so happened i received in the mail, a Dish Network sales flyer "free HD for life" and free DVR. I called Directv to cancel my no contract SD DVR service. They said "oh but we can match Dish's offer... We don't want to lose a valued costumer." I asked the salesman again if he needed me to fax him Dish's sales flyer to prove my intentions. He said no and he offered me free HD for life and a free DVD with free install. I agreed. Well 6 months later i'm getting a $100 charge per month for HD. I've called numerous times. Dirctv has no idea what i'm talking about. They write down notes about your account in their computer. So it must be they write down what they want to. So i'm stuck with Directv for another 18 months til i can cancel!
