Collection Notice for $133.48 Five Years After Service Ended

In December of 1996, my husband bought a DirecTV satellite system from a local business. After our trial period, a DirecTV representative called us and offered us the Basic package, with no "special movie" packages included, for $69.00 for a full year (April 97 to April 98).

We paid the special price and received a bill each month that stated we had a $0 balance due. In February of 98, we received a notice that our "special" ending date was up and that we owed them more money, but we still had two more months to go. My husband basically told them off, and then they shut us off. We never received another bill or heard from them again, until this past week.

Five years later, they have turned us over to a collection agency and say that we owe them $133.48. We have absolutely no idea where on earth they came up with that sum. We had never been shut off before, and we did not cancel our agreement. They are the ones in the wrong, and we are not paying the bill they "claim" that we owe. We haven't had DirecTV in over 5 years, and we will never subscribe or suggest them to anyone ever!

They are a very crooked, whacked-out company that cheated us and are trying to rip us off for $133.48 more.
