DirecTV customer for little over a year now and just started having some reception problems, freezing and pixelization on several channels. I called customer service and was told that I need a service call and there would be a charge of $49.99. I don't undersatnd how they could charge a service call when they charge a monthly rental fee for the converter boxes.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and was transferred to customer retention dept. After 30 minutes of debating why I don't feel they should charge me a service charge to make the television service that they provide work, I asked to speak to a supervisor again. I was placed on hold and when the rep returned, she offered to waive the $49.99 fee if I would enroll in teh service plus plan at a cost of $6.00 per month.
I am not sure if that was per receiver as she was not very clear. I would not recommend this company to anyone. I have been a good paying customer for the duration and the once that I have an issue, they want to milk me. I refused to agree to pay any service charges and I offered to cancel my service and was told that I would be responsible for $20 per month pro rated cancellation fee. ($220 to cancel)
So now I have become a prisoner of Directv. I have to continue to pay for service that they cannot provide. Imagine if there was an issue with a cell phone tower and you call your provider and they try to pass a service charge to you to repair the signal!!! Buyer Beware...
