I contacted DirecTV to have them install service for my Father at the nursing home where he was living. We specifically discussed the possibility that my Father could pass away before the one year agreement could be fulfilled. The eager sales representative said that this would be no problem. She stated that all I would have to do is provide them with a death certificate and the contract would be terminated.

During that call, I requested that a supervisor be added to the conversation to verify this information. He assured me that DirecTV understood the situation and that there would be no problem in the event of my Father's demise.

As fate would have it, my Father's health took a turn for the worse and he passed away two months into our agreement. I talked with their "customer service" agents and they told me to write to the billing office in Colorado. They would NOT provide me with a phone number for them, only their address. My request for termination was denied because quote: " We can only accept a death certificate for the account holder".
Obviously my name was on the account because my Father had no checking account or credit card. They had to use my name on the account if they wanted to get paid. We discussed this in depth during the sales call, but of course, there is no record of our conversation or any information on who wrote the sales contract.

My "bill" of $352 has now been turned over to a collection agency and I'm getting called by them on a daily basis. DirecTV is using bully tactics. You CANNOT talk to the billing department. Their approach is to wear you down. They do NOT adhere to their word. Do NOT use DirecTV.
