Ripoff—would not honor warranty on cell phone, falsely claimed it was water-damaged

One of our cell phones no longer works correctly—the display area does not light up and show numbers dialed, info, etc.

The phone is under manufacturer's warranty for 1 year and should be replaced. The rep claims it has been water-damaged. He could not show me how he came to that conclusion—and in fact admitted that both our phones looked the same—but mine is working fine. He could not explain this.

We have insurance but there is a $50 deductible. The reps seem to think it is perfectly reasonable to replace both phones every 6 months (the length of time we've had them) for a total of $100 and be happy that we can do that.
The 800 number customer service rep told me that whatever the store rep said was true and would not let me speak to a supervisor. She also felt that the damage could have just come from the air and that the insurance deductible of $50 is "better than paying retail for a new phone every 6 months."

We do not live in a humid area—it's a sunny, dry part of Hawaii.
