Ripoff, Water Damage Sensors, Has anyone gone in for problems and been told it's water damage when you are sure there was none?

Our cell phone (Samsung SCH-A650) was working fine Friday evening. It was plugged in to charge. The next morning, it would not work. We slowly got to a point where the screen displayed fine, but there was no service. We went into Verizon for service. They said the sensors showed water damage, however, we are certain that it was not exposed to water.

When we originally bought the phone, another person was in the store with the same story. Mainly, I just wanted Verizon to at least write up an incident report to see if there was consistency between phones (engineering issue) or circumstances (customer training issue) that that could help customers in the future.

It was interesting that they are telling me that they never track this information and were so insistent that we were lying to them. I don't know of any product that is totally bug free - why do they insistent that Samsung's is?

Has anyone else experienced this with their cell phones or was it just me and the other lady in the store? By the way, I know I could purchase insurance. It is $5/month with a $50 deductible. That seems a little high for the product insured.
