Charged 58.03 after a 35.76 receipt for overnight envelope

I feel cheated by FedEx as I write this review. I went to the nearest FedEx office to ship an envelope for overnight delivery. I chose overnight only after learning the price. The employee took my envelope, weighed it, and gave me a receipt for 35.76 dollars. Two days later my account was charged 58.03 dollars. They took 62% more than the receipt said. I called customer care, and the representative said the receipt is just an estimate. Look at the bottom of the receipt: "Subject to Additional Charges".

Ironically, at the store I was willing to pay by cash or by credit card, but the person at the store advised me to use my FedEx account because I would get more benefits at times.

I went to this store again, and he said he could not do anything because his system no longer had the data, and he asked me to call customer service again. He also wondered why they charged so much when he himself, a FedEx employee, had weighed the package and given me the receipt.

I wrote an email complaint to FedEx. Nothing happened. I feel cheated, so I decided to close my account. They said I had put in a request to close my account, but it still has not been closed after 7 days.

I would not have shipped overnight if the employee had told me they were going to charge 58 dollars. He weighed the envelope and told me the charges for all the services (3-day, 2-day, 1-day and overnight), and only then did I select the overnight option. I never knew they would charge 62% more.

I have never been charged more than my receipt. If I had paid by cash, FedEx would never have charged me more, so why are they cheating their own account holders and those who pay by credit card?
