Ripoff, mis-directed paycheck, no attempt to reissue

I am a former employee of a regional cellular company that was bought by Verizon Wireless. Soon after the buyout, Verizon issued VARs, which is similar to stock options, to it's employees. After I had converted 95% of my customers to Verizon's phones and network, and extended their contracts for two years, Verizon decided they did not need a business rep in the market I was in. I was downsized, and as a result, instantly lost 75% of the VARs account I was previously "given". When Verizon finally decided to fund the accounts, I had moved to another state. I did everything I could to be sure they had my current address. I waited and waited, but no check. After spending a couple of hours on the phone, I found a number that supposedly was the department that handled that kind of thing. The name given for the voicemail message stated you should leave a detailed message, and she would get back to you. After trying to contact this "lady", Joanne Goki, for nearly two weeks, I called today and find that her extension no longer works. That's a good way to dodge doing your job-just delete your extension. Their attitude has been pitiful. One person gave me the number of the check, the amount, the date it was sent, and they verified it has not been cashed. She is the one who sent me to the tax and accounting office, which aparrently does not want to be bothered with it. The retail stores are no help, and I hate to think I'll have to sue them to get my check replaced, as it's less than $2000. Does anyone have any ideas on how to proceed?
