Best Buy
Product Replacement Plan is Worthless ripoff

Electronics and household app.

Having had trouble returning defective items to Best Buy in the past, this time I bought the Product Replacement Plan for my new stereo for $30. I was told by the assistant that I could return the item, "Even if there's nothing wrong with it, but something better comes out" (I knew this was a lie - I just wanted a warranty).

After 6 months my CD changer refused to open with 5 CDs inside. I called Best Buy, who told me 1) not to return the stereo to the store as it would not be accepted, 2) that they had no service personnel capable of opening the stereo; my CDs were lost.

The Replacement Plan works like this:

- Best Buy mail you a postage label (1 week to arrive, on a Monday)
- You pack up your purchase in the original packaging and mail back to Best Buy (had to wait until Saturday to get to a Post Office)
- Best Buy allegedly mail you a voucher for the cost of the product to redeem at a Best Buy store (10 days now, still waiting. When I called they told me I needed to wait 2 weeks)

All in all I will be without a functioning stereo for at least a month. I fail to see how my $30 has bought me any convenience or peace of mind. Most items come with a manufacturer's warranty that allows you to return your defective product to them and receive another by return of post. Best Buy take your money and provide worse service than you would have had anyway. I have called and written to Best Buy and received absolutely zero customer service. As soon as you leave the store, no matter how much you spend on the various plans and warranties, you are on your own.

Do not buy the product replacement plan. Do not buy from best buy at all.

I phoned regarding the defective product and was told to send back for replacement and I would be credited $6.00 for the return shipping. Why should I pay shipping for a defective product sent t I DIDN'T SEND MYSELF THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!
