Deferment Raised APR, Car Faced Repossession After Job Loss

We bought a car through Citi last February. Shortly after, I lost my job. We tried our best to make our payments, but we fell behind.

Their customer service is appalling. We called and asked for a deferment, which they approved without notifying us that doing so would lead to an increase in our APR.

NOW we are in the situation where our car is in the "Loss Prevention Department" and scheduled for repo. I only know this because I demanded to know. They had no intention of informing us.

We got a loan to cover what we are behind to catch us up and put us back in the green. The organization (through the military) that gave us our loan cut a check to the company, and I have been calling every day for the last two weeks to find out where to send it. They put me on hold for ridiculous amounts of time, transfer me from one department to the other, and then finally send me to an office that always seems to be closed.

I finally convinced someone to actually speak to me and asked her where to mail the check. She told me that I cannot mail the check and must wire the money. I tried to explain the situation to her, that I cannot wire the money because I have a drafted check that I must mail them, and she interrupted me by saying "Well, sorry then" and hung up!

I don't know what to do! I am trying to pay these people the money I owe them. It seems like they do not want it. It seems like they would rather repo my car than allow me to bring my account current! Please, if anyone knows what I can do, let me know! I have two small children and cannot afford to lose my car. And I have the money to pay them!
